2012-13 SEASON NOTES: Ripping the chords: Hornets guards Greivis Vasquez and Austin Rivers both set career highs in points in the L at HOU on 11/14. Vasquez had 24 points on 8-15 FG shooting (3-4 3PT FG) and 5-5 FT. Rivers scored 10 points with 2-4 3PT FG and 2-2 FT. Calling in for Reinforcements: With his 20 point and 12 rebound performance in the loss on 11/14 at HOU, Anderson notched his second double-double of the season. The Cal product has been a model of consistency coming off the Hornets bench through six games this season. In addition to holding the mark for individual game high for points (25 points in W over CHA 11/9), he holds the team lead in overall points (96 on the season), offensive rebounds (17), and 3 point field goals made (15). Anderson has shot the ball particularly well at the New Orleans Arena, where he has made 12 of his 30 three-pointers for 40% shooting. iel Greivis Grande! After a strong preseason in which he finished third in the league in assists per game, Greivis Vasquez has opened the 2012 regular season in spectacular fashion. Vasquez has recorded double-digit assists in two games so far this season, after doing so just six times during the 2011-12 campaign. He is tied for 3 rd in the NBA in assists per game with a 8.8 average. In the loss at HOU on 11/14, Vasquez recorded a career-high 24 points to go along with nine assists. Against UTA 11/2, the University of Maryland alumnus recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists. Counting the preseason, this marked the fourth straight game that Vasquez has recorded double-digit assists. Vasquez handed out a career-high 13 assists in the season opener vs. San Antonio while adding eight points and six rebounds. Block Party: In addition to his first double-double, Davis also chipped in five blocks in the win on 11/9 over CHA. The five blocks matches a Hornets individual season-high. With 42 blocks through the first five games, the Hornets now have the most blocks in the first five games of a season since the Bees recorded 35 in the first five games of the 2000-2001 season. The Hornets 7.0 blocks per game is 2nd best in the NBA. Swarming Defense: As a team, the Hornets are averaging only 89.5 points per game. However, they are smothering the opposition on the defensive end. The Rockets 100 point performance is the first time the Hornets have allowed an opponent to score 100 points in a contest in ten games dating back to last season (107 pts at LAC 4/22/12). The Hornets allow: Hornets opponents score the 3 rd fewest points per game in the league (90.5) The Hornets allow their opponents the 8 th lowest FG% in the league (.426) Opponents shoot the 2 nd lowest 3 PT FG% in the league (.292) Impact Rookie: Forward Anthony Davis recorded his first double-double as a pro with 23 points and 11 rebounds on 11/9 vs. Charlotte. This makes him only the third Hornets rookie to have a double-double in one of his first three performances as a pro (Alonzo Mourning 15 points, 14 rebounds 11/17/92 vs. DAL, Larry Johnson 16 points, 18 rebounds 11/2/91 vs. NJN). Davis leads the team in blocks per game (2.7) and is second in points per game (15.0). Davis ranks impressively among NBA rookies as well: 2 nd in points per game (15.0), 4 th in FG percentage (48.8%), 1 st in rebounds per game (7.0), 1st in steals per game (1.50), and 1 st in blocks per game (2.75). 2012-13 HORNETS MISCELLANEOUS STATS Hornets are 3-2 when opponent has 12 or more turnovers 2-3 when bench outscores opponent bench 3-1 when a bench player scores 14 or more pts 3-0 when outshooting opponent 0-3 when outshot by opponent 2-3 when shooting equal or more free throws than opp. 1-0 when shooting less free throws than opp. 0-1 when two Hornets have double-digit rebounds 0-0 when two Hornets have double-doubles 0-0 when the Hornets have 10 or more triples 1-1 when opponent hits 10 or more 3-pointers 1-0 when the Hornets score 100 or more points 3-2 when the Hornets score less than 100 points 0-1 when opponent scores 100 or more points 3-2 when opponent scores less than 100 points 1-1 when opponent scores less than 90 points 2-0 when the Hornets are ahead after the third qtr 0-2 when the Hornets are trailing after the third qtr 1-1 when tied at the end of the third quarter 1-1 when the Hornets trail at halftime 2-2 when the Hornets lead at halftime 0-0 when tied at halftime 1-0 in games decided by 3 points or less 0-2 in games decided by 4-5 points 2-0 in games decided by 6-10 points 0-1 in games decided by 11-20 points 0-0 in games decided by more than 20 points 0-0 on Sunday 0-0 on Monday 0-0 on Tuesday 0-3 on Wednesday 0-0 on Thursday 2-0 on Friday 1-0 on Saturday 0-1 in October 3-2 in November 0-0 in December 0-0 in January 0-0 in February 0-0 in March 0-0 in April 2012-13 Team Leaders Points Ryan Anderson 96 Rebounds Ryan Anderson 53 Off. The Hornets began play during the 1988-89 season in Charlotte, North Carolina, one of four expansion franchises granted that season. After fourteen seasons in Charlotte, the Hornets relocated to New Orleans prior to the 2002-2003 season. The franchise had just started unpacking in their new home when Hurricane Katrina forced the Hornets to temporarily relocate to Oklahoma City in 2005 for the next two seasons. The Bees would return to the Big Easy for the 2007-08 season and recorded a franchise-best 56 wins en route to the franchise s first-ever division title. In the 25 year history of the franchise, the Hornets have compiled a 934-986 (.486) record. The franchise has made 12 playoff appearances and compiled a 35-49 (.417) record in the NBA playoffs. The Hornets first playoff appearance came in 1993 under head coach Allan Bristow. The Hornets finished 44-38 during the 1992-93 season and advanced to the second round of the playoffs, falling in 5 games to the New York Knicks. That team featured NBA All-Stars Larry Johnson and Alonzo Mourning as well as the franchise s all-time leader in assists, Tyrone Muggsy Bogues. Regarded as the best season in franchise history, the Hornets returned to New Orleans for the 2007-08 season and recorded a franchisebest 56 wins, won the first-ever division title for the franchise and came one win shy of reaching the Western Conference Finals. The Hornets have been awarded two number one picks in the NBA Draft during their tenure in the NBA. The first was Larry Johnson in 1991, who won the NBA Rookie of the Year award for the 1991-92 season, went on to become a two-time NBA All-Star and ranks in the top five in nine different statistical categories in Hornets franchise history. The second was current Hornet Anthony Davis.
