Although we all regretted the passng of the hlarous Chapel announcements of three years ago whch mght come from any or all parts of the Horace Mann Audtorum, we were forced to consder the unfavorable mpresson they must have made on vstors unacquanted wth ther purpose and sprt. Our recent menton of flng out of the audtorum at the coneluson of the exercses accordng to academc precedence brought results whch necesstated no further acton. The followng Chapel was a perfect example of Brdgewater's fundamental courtesy. Partcular prde should be taken n the fact that the pre-exstng condton was student-noted, the correcton was student-suggested and the results were brought about by student-acton. And we would lke to note one of our best Chapel courteses, one that s seldom mentoned and unconscously carred out. Our applause has won the prase of many vstors and guest speakers due to ts sncerty, spontanety, abundance and warmth-elements rarely found n the ordnary college assembly applause. Yes, we frmly beleve that less and less adverse crtcsm can be placed on student shoulders. But, evdently, mprovement has stll to be made. Let us not fall down now! CAMPUS COMMENT BRTHDAY Wth ths January seventeenth ssue of the college newspaper we begn our sxteenth year of publcaton, for t was n January of 1926 that CAMPUS COMMENT frst appeared at Brdgewater. Durng these past years we have always tred to produce a paper that s professonal n ts standards and not just an avocaton for a small group of students called the staff. Our efforts have been especally bent toward puttng out ssues that would successfully meet the needs and nterests of the steadly-ncreasng student-body. n our work we have been guded by Mss Olve H. Lovett, a newspaper specalst and journalsm nstructor. Her nvaluable ad and drecton wthout domnaton have been wrtten of and prased before n these columns. Already we are lookng forward to our sxteenth brthday whch we hope to celebrate n a fttng manner. By ths s meant a vctory celebraton, our preparaton for whch s mostly contaned n our present efforts towards mprovng our newspaper. The Press Club s functonng to provde us wth good staff materal by gvng students tranng and experence n newspaper work. Bt by bt we are endeavorng to ncrease our news coverage. Each year sees us ssung more frequently and usng as many more cuts as our budget wll permt. We often have the newspaper evaluated by experts n the journalstc feld and by ther suggestons proft mmeasurably. Members of the staff constantly study new trends n college newspapers and attend several journalsm conferences and conventons each year n order to dscuss and solve our problems and keep n step wth the newest trends. We are not askng for commendaton. Rather do we make a bd for your comments on our ssues, for t s only by carefully notng student reactons that we are able to drect the paper nto the channels of whch Brdgewater approves. opportuntes, the ones would could beneft lose out. There s also a queston as to whether the student who takes on several postons nvolvng leadershp has the tme and energy to do the work entaled for each as well as f he concentrated on one or two. t was because of these problems that the pont system was adopted by the Student Councl. A defnte number of ponts were gven for each actvty partcpated n and for each offce held. Then the number of ponts held by each ndvdual were lmted as the handbook of S. C. A. savs: "No student may carry more than 12 ponts at anyone tme. An excepton to ths s made n cases where the ratng for offces adds up to ten or more ponts. Under ths condton one may rase hs maxmum number of ponts to 15 through club membershp. Offces are not to be held n excess of 12 ponts." Through lack of knowledge of ths rule by some and through non-enforcement of t by others durng last year's electons, a comparatvely small number of students are holdng offce whle a large majorty are losng out on chances to develop ther powers of leadershp. Ths year the Scholarshp Commttee s gong to enforce ths rule, but t wll need the understandng and cooperaton of everyone. When the tme for electons comes, watch the bulletn boards for drectons whch wll help to open up the holdng of electve offces to as large a number of students as possble. Questons concernng the pont system may be put to any of the followng members of the Commttee: na May Mosher, Joseph Kllory, Velma Shorey and Wllam Blount. Sgned, DORS KENNEY, Charman CLUB NEWS TOPCS OF THE DAY CLUB.Merts of the C.. O. and the A. F. of 1. were dscussed at the Topcs of the Day Club's last meetng. The queston was expanded to nclude labor's rght to strke, especally durng the present defense program. Eleanor Fulton, Eleen Walsh, Joseph Cumerford, and George Chassey were leaders n ths dscusson. Tentatve plans were made for the next meetng whch wll be held after the md-year examnatons. Then'! wll also be a pctoral exhbt of bg news events of the past decade, lent by Bernard Knsella. WOMEN'S GLEE CLUB Practce for the Glee Club concert was started Tuesday, January 8 and wll be contnued followng exa~naton week. SCENCE CLUB A collecton of all pctures taken n the past on Scence Club feld trps and Snoop and Scoop Dscuss New Yearls Resolutons The future sure does look black. Onlv 17 days snce Scoop had mafle hs N e~ Year's Resolutons and already fve of them are broken. Over a steamng hot cup of Java n the frendly warmth of. BRADY'S "DOG CART" Snoop anxouslycyed her better half. "f you've broken fve already, just what wll that lst look lke by June?" she mournfully quzzed. Seeng no reply n the offng. Snoop centered all her attenton on the delghtful repast before her and fell to wth more vm that '{race. Tme passed; one ate; one 'londered. "Snap Ollt of t, chum. Let's go down tl) REX ALL'S for some new magaznes. 1\1y supply s runnng low what wth 'll the grls snaggng them for sck frends," jazzed Snoop a.s she "Cheero'd" out of the "dog cart" up to the corner drug store. Standng by the song rack were many co-eds hummng the newest melodes and among them wggled Snoop and found at long last the song she wanted. Fnally, loaded down wth popcorn, magaznes and new songs, Scoop and Snoop jved up the street to SNOW'S for the grls had whspered glad tdngs of new sweaters-all shades, too. Can any woman resst such a cry? No! So. lackng all orgnalty, Snoop followed the crowd. Fred ddn't have to show Snoop the new lne for she was already gazng wth undsgused delght at the supply of lovely sweaters. "You know, my pet, a college grl can never have enough sweaters," murmured Snoop to a now wde-awake Scoop who manfully brought out hs wallet and bought the dear grl an nfter-ch rstmas present of a powderblue long-sleeved sweater. "All rght, young 'un. Let's he home before you get any more brght deas," sad Scoop whle Snoop only sweetly repled, "But dear, that's another broken resoluton-you were gong to save you're money. Perhaps you had better forget all about those resolutons any.. way!" Campus Comment Staff Celebrates Annversary Are college students too old for brthday partes? " Ths queston was answered very successfully n the negatve by the staff of CAMPUS COMMENT ths Tuesday afternoon, January 14, at 3:45 p. m. The occason was the ffteenth brthday annversary of the newspaper, celebrated by a party n Woodward Rec Room. Dancng, refreshments and games were all the order of the day, and a brthday cake wth 14 candles was the center of attracton. One of the novel ga.mes enjoyed was l'pn the moustache "11 a promnent dctator." excursons wll be joned on one flm for the pleasure of the club. The flm wll be shown at the next meetng. GERMAN CLUB A muscal program of German folk songs was the hll for the recent German Club meetng. Specal feature of the meetng was the sngng of the Schntzlebank. and several couples sang duets. Donald Merrll was n charge of the meetng.

Brdgewater Grls nvade West Pont Over Holdays nvason of West Pont made the Chrstmas recess an unforgettable affar accordng to three Brdgewater grls, Ruth Humphreys, Lllan Russell. and Rosemary Durant, who were nvted for the holdays. f you've never heard of a Boodle Shop, - you've probably never been to West Pont. t s there that male escorts who have no monev exchang" precous Boodle checks for' coffee. crrarettes, hamburgers and the prveg: of sttng besde ther best grl n ;] Boodle Shop. Gong to Grant Hall's recepton room, Lllan Russell was asked by someone whom she was draggng. Lllan looked behnd her quckly. and realzed only too late that a "drag" n West Pont nomenclature s same as our term "date". the Nne "Drags" for Ruthe Ruth Humphreys was there the longest and enjoyed fve formals and four tea-hops. One dance enjoyed especally by the Plebes was the "spot" dance. All the lghts were turned off except one spotlght that traveled around the floor. The dances were held n Cullum Hall. He combnes speed, endurance and pep to produce a style of play that results n vctory for hs team. De Coste Costgan has mproved greatly n hs ablty to set up plays. Jmmy possesses an uncanny adeptness atpassng just when he should.. When t~e lttle rshman has a good mght he S by far the outstandng fgure on the floor. Dynamte n condensed form, that's our descrpton of flyng Larry Fallon. Ths Brdgewaterte packs a terrfc scorng punch n both hands. Angular Pete Felch has earned the rght to hold down a steady job under the backboard. At tmes Pete remnds us of Clem Daley, n hs apttude for grabbng rebounds and clever blockng. Another resemblance s that of Martn to Bg Jawn Augustne. Fredde s fast:r than Johnne was, but many of hs shots are executed n the methodcal Augustne manner. Fred s the foremost canddate for the role of star of the team. Surprse Package: Dmnutve Nck Megas has not only bettered hs ball-handlng, but has sharpened hs eye at the expense of the much larger foe. t's a mystery as to where those sudden long baskets come from sometmes, but our eagle eye pcks ~ut Nck as beng the culprt behnd the deed. Stove League Gossp: Baseball should be very much obscured by hoop fervor at present, but t pops up every day. A. locker-r~om dscusson recently held, m the mdst of ths torrd basketball season, seemed very enthusastc. Many predctons were made concernng the far dstant damond prospects. n a nutshell, the general opnon seems t? be that B.. T. C. wll feld the classest aggregaton n many years. There's a veteran ball player n every poston, wth several potent lettermen n reserve. Only one spot seems hazy. The ptchng staff s a bt weak n numbers. Last year we reled upon the stout arms of Tobn and Van Annan. Ths year Van s the only real hurler left on the squad. f there are any good tossers n the freshman turnout they wll have a great c han c e to become varsty J:!laye~s. Boundng Bob has been keepmg n good shape all wnter, but he hasn't seemed confdent that he can handle the mound job sngle-handed.. Rumors have t that outfelder Costgan and frst-sacker Martn wll not be out for the team. Your agent beleves, ho.wever that the lure of the horsehde wll 'brng them out of secluson. Changes n Technque: Coach Fred Meer has been employng more substtutes n past ~alll:es than he ever has prevously. The Jumor varsty squad s handled by capable students. Vc Lews has devoted many afternoons to the supervsng of jayvee practce. Vc has apparently done ~n excellent job, as ndcated by the VCtores the seconds have produced. Art Applebaum has become an exce~lent offcal. The ntra-mural league S faster and more furous than ever before. The grad students have the scrappest team. Mystery of the Week: Who s Terpschore? But anywho she nvted her followers (and they be legcn from the looks of the lst of modern dancers) n an open letter posted on the gymnasum bulletn to a stock-takng last Wednesday, the ffteenth. dea S that she wanted to fnd out just what they have accomplshed durng the past eght weeks. Freshman gymnasum classes orgnated the dea, and both the begnner and advanced clases are nvted to ptch n. We just went nto dthers and jtters over the nterestng orgnal nterpretatons that hghlghted the affar. Volley Ball Teams Battle: Tuesday afternoons the battle rages hot and do mean heavy n the gym as sx volley ball teams fght for supremacy. Pngs and Swms: We were smply delghted (you know how t s wth us) to notce that the png pong tournament has seen a lot of actvty snce we last wrote about t. A. Kabowska and Natale Keyes hold frst and second stuatons respectvely. Who s gong to debate wth them? Undersea actvty n swmmng under the able leadershp of Katherne Stes contnues to be very popular. We just Jove the bulletn board notces wth the Old Englsh letterng whch the canddates for the closed aquacade affect. Well, at least they ought to cure our college's tradtonal falure to see notces posted for days on end. Bulletn ssue and Thngs: Lookng nto the future we see that a second ssue of that very nterestng and nformatve W. A. A. Bulletn s due n the near future. Edtor Wnfred Sweeney, she of the cute sze, s not yet sure of the date of publcaton. but t s certan to be more than worthwhle when t does come out. Remember last year's put out by Peg Burns and her gang? Don't forget, my lt tl e femnne frends, that next quarter our all-mportant sport, basketball, wll hold the spotght. We're expectng to see all those who survve the next week of exams to come on out onto the floor and support ther class teams. And, oh gosh, are we gong to be glad when the second semester's sports get started. What wth the gradual letdown of the past few weeks when everythng s beng fnshed up and moth-balled 'tll next year we've had the toughest tme fllng ths column. t'll be just grand to st down and pound out oodles of stuff agan for dear old Cam Com-but don't you let us down: come out for your sports and maybe, just maybe, we'll put your name n the column. Thrll! See you n February! The \'1aroon and \Vhte hoop forces of Brdgewater wll play host to the fast-travellng Hyanns Teachers fve at the local gym ne..xt Frday n a contest that s expected to be the best of the entre season. Alw-ays btter rvals, these two clubs are keyed up over the game and to all ndcatons the affar should be an nterestng one. Both quntets have been settng a fast pace of late and appear evenly rna tched. The local hoopmen wll be seekng revenge for the 35-27 defeat suffered at the hands of the Cape team early n the season. f the Meermen expect to wn the tlssle, they wll have to keep close watch on such stars as the Drew brothers, Mak, Butler and Mlls. These lads have been the bulwark of the Hyanns attack n ts past encounters and wll bear watchng. The splendd' record of the vstors bears out the fact that B. T. C. wll have a battle on ts hands. Captan Costgan and hs teammates are confdent of vctory. They base ther predcton on the fact that the Maroon and Whte have mproved wth each succeedng game, and Frday's encounter should fnd them at ther peak. Besdes Costgan, the openng B. T.
