White Mountain Fly Fishing Club NEWSLETTER Established 1996 We Support Catch and Release August 2008 WMFFC Mission Statement Bob Bowers President 928-367-5579 Bud Huth Vice President 928-532-0777 Jon Meyer Secretary & Treasurer 928-242-5161 Dennis Jones Membership Chairman 928-367-6124 Next Meeting: August 20, 2008 JD s Black Bull 4481 S White Mountain Rd Show Low, AZ 85901 (928) 537-5581 --------------------------------- 5:30 PM Dinner (optional) 6:30 PM - Meeting 1 The Mission Statement of the White Mountain Fly Fishing Club is: To assist in the development and maintenance of fly fishing opportunities and to promote and participate in fly fishing in its many forms." We support and practice Catch and Release. We support the use of Barb-less Hooks and harmless netting and release practices. Fish should never be held out of water for longer than you can hold your breath. Tight Loops Change is never easy but because our club is growing and some changes are needed at our monthly meetings. Two board members met with Johnny & Dee Johnson at the Black Bull to resolve some problems she had and some issues we had. In order to reduce the noise and interruptions during our meeting and to insure prompt service the following changes will be tested during our August meeting. Please understand that meeting space in the White Mountain area is in short supply. Johnny & Dee Johnson want our business and will make changes to improve quality and service. We want/need to use the meeting room, so we are working together resolve issues on both sides. 1. Social hour will be between 5:00 and 6:30. The reason for this is so those that choose to have dinner can order and be served before 6:30. This is just starting the social hour 30 minutes earlier. Please arrive early so we can get everyone served promptly. 2. The Black Bull will provide a buffet dinner for a set price of$8.00. The price will include the buffet, a soft drink and the tip. The buffet will change each month throughout the summer months and buffet suggestions are welcome. The reason for this is to speed up service and make it easier for the wait staff to serve everyone before 6:30. The buffet is optional and you can always order from the menu, but the club must guarantee a minimum number of dinners (15-20). There will be a no host bar that will be open during the entire meeting. 3. The August meeting buffet will be a taco bar with all the fixings. Tortillas, meat, cheese, beans, salsa, hot sauce, lettuce and a soft drink. Dinner, soft drink and tip all for only $8.00. Help us make this a success by ordering the buffet dinner. 4. The Black Bull will not use the area by the door for dirty dishes from the main restaurant. 5. The wait staff will bring the dinner bill at the same time that your dinner is served. 6. The room will be setup in a U shape using all the tables in the room so we can accommodate everyone that attends. 7. Arrangements are being made to increase the quality of the food. See you on the water, Bob Bowers President

OUTINGS, OUTINGS AND MORE OUTINGS Next Outing: HURRICANE LAKE August 24 th 26 th FRAN STIER -- OUTINGS >>>>> MEMBERS ONLY! Don t miss this opportunity to fish a prime trout lake. We still have several openings for all the days. Sign-up now with Fran: Fran@heartnp.com or call 928-537-4556. The last chance to sign-up will be August 20 th at our meeting if there are any openings available. Remember you need to purchase a $3/day/person Access permit for the Rent-a-Lake at Hon-Dah Sports. You do not need a fishing license. There is primitive camping at the lake. Hope to see you there. Refunds for Christmas Tree: Several members paid for two full days of fishing and attended only one. Please contact Fran to arrange for your refund. July Outing: RESERVATION LAKE First Joint Outing with AZ Fly Casters! This was our first official joint venture with Arizona Fly Casters (AFC). Once again Mother Nature provided us with some challenges: rain and hail, but no snow. The full moon the night before also influenced the fishing( at least that is our excuse for not catching fish). Each club had about 10-12 members participating and many camped for several days. We had fun with launching some of our members in float tubes for the first time. Please see the pictures in our photo gallery. Judy Gurley had a very eventful time, ask her about it. Gail Allgood looked like a pro using a Bamboo rod and kicking around in the float tube for her first time. And Captain Bill s wife Kathy, in a float tube for the first time actually found it so relaxing she feel asleep. Unfortunately, lightening arrived and we had to end our outing early. Jerry Meyers and Captain Bill stuck-it out and had success in catching some decent fish. The AFC members also found the fishing very challenging. The Potluck Lunch at 3pm was outstanding: AFC members put on a first-class spread which included an Upside-down Pineapple cake cooked in a Dutch-oven. All had a great time.
