WELCOME TO HANNINGFIELD Hanningfield Reservoir, set within a picturesque part of Essex, not only helps provide water for over 1.8 million customers of Essex & Suffolk Water but is also open for visitors to enjoy a day out in the beautiful landscape. The reservoir is one of the premier fisheries in the UK, providing some of the best reservoir trout fishing by either bank or boat. Hanningfield Reservoir is also a wonderful haven for nature and wildlife and is renowned for its nationally important populations of wildfowl, which can be viewed from the reservoir s four bird watching hides. For a more relaxed atmosphere, why not bring along family and friends for an enjoyable picnic surrounded by some of the most picturesque and calming scenery in the country. There is also easy access to the Essex Wildlife Trust nature reserve by road, which has free parking or you can enjoy stunning shoreline and woodland walks that link up to the Essex Wildlife Trust Visitors Centre. Here you will find a gift shop which has a wide range of bird care, wildlife gardening products, optics and gifts. FISHING AT HANNINGFIELD As one of the premier fisheries in the UK, you can be sure a visit to Hanningfield Reservoir will provide you with an outstanding day s fishing, by either bank or boat. OPENING TIMES Fishing season is open from Saturday 5 March until Wednesday 30 November 2016. Bank fishing from 8.00am until 9.00pm or sunset (whichever is sooner). The fishing lodge for permits and tackle is open from 8.00am until 4.00pm. Our fishery stocking policy means we have the highest quality of fin perfect trout throughout the season. PRICES For bank angling, fishing platforms are provided for both safety and comfort on the concrete banks. You can enjoy excellent fishing from the natural bank, especially early or late in the season when lower water levels allow wading. Season permit Monday - Sunday. Full 797 Concessionary 693*. (24 trout per week Mon - Sun). A fleet of 35 well maintained powered boats are available to hire from the fishing lodge jetty, alongside two purpose built wheelie boats for less mobile anglers. The varying depths and contours of the reservoir allow for many different approaches to be used to suit your preferred fishing methods. Most methods will work on any given day, so you have the choice to use small imitations through to large lures with excellent chance of success. Beginners who have attended our fishing tuition course can buy a discounted day ticket (maximum five visits) for 16 for two fish. Season permits valid from 5 March to 30 November 2016. GREAT VALUE FISHING FREE FISHING FOR UNDER 18s Fishing is fantastic fun for children and the whole family. It s so easy to learn, makes a great day out and is the perfect way to make friends and above all, have fun. Up to two children aged 8 to 18 can fish for free when a parent or guardian buys a day trout fishing permit. CATCH AND RELEASE GUIDELINES We would appreciate it if you could follow these simple catch and release guidelines: Catch and release is not allowed while any method fishing. Only use barbless hooks or standard hooks with the barbs removed or crushed. Only use knotless micromesh landing nets. Buoyant flies which are fished static on a sinking line must not be used. Play the fish firmly and get them to the net with the minimum of fuss, this will ensure that they are not exhausted and will aid recovery. Keep handling of the fish to a minimum and always make sure your hands are wet before touching the fish, alternatively use a dampened cloth. If possible unhook the fish in the water. Come fishing seven times and your eighth visit is free; that s a saving of 3.71 per visit on a full 26 eight fish day permit every time you swipe your card. There s no limit to the number of times you can claim and all your credits are carried forward on your account to the following season. ANY METHOD FISHING FOR TROUT Any method fishing is very popular and offers the chance for families to spend an enjoyable day out fishing. It has made it much easier for the younger generation to get into and enjoy our fantastic sport. Popular successful methods include spinning and bait fishing using float and ledger tactics. 4
FLY FISHING TUITION TUITION CLASSES FOR BEGINNERS Costs 69 per person for the day. Beginner s courses are available at the reservoir and run under qualified instruction throughout the season. They continue to go from strength to strength and are extremely popular. The tackle and equipment you need for the course is provided so all you need do is to come appropriately dressed for the weather. Classes take place on Saturdays and include free rod hire for the day. The course covers casting, tackle, knots, techniques, trout behaviour and safety as well as providing lunch and an opportunity to try your hand at fishing in the afternoon. The beginner s course is a great introduction to fly fishing where we also welcome junior anglers (must be aged 8 years or over). Anyone can join, so book early to avoid disappointment. 2016 DATES 9 April 23 April 14 May 21 May 11 June 25 June 16 July 13 August 3 September 24 September 8 October 15 October Follow up improver sessions will be available on 14 May, 16 July and 10 September just 22 per person. FOR YOUR COMFORT AND SAFETY The safety information and angling rules are displayed in the fishing lodge. A copy is also available on site or can be viewed online at www.eswater.co.uk/gofishing. All anglers aged 12 years or over must be in possession of their own individual Environment Agency rod licence in addition to the fishery permit. It is a criminal offence to take fish in excess of the permit catch limit and offenders will be prosecuted under the Theft Act. Our rangers reserve the right to inspect catches and enforce the fishery rules. In adverse conditions and if necessary they can also cancel or suspend fishing on safety grounds. It is stocked with all of your fishing requirements from baits and flies to rod and reels. Plus we have a full range of accessories including clothing, waders and tackle boxes.
