Columbus State University Homecoming Fall 2018 RSO Packet Student Organization Registration, Rules and Regulations Packet Greetings Registered Student Organizations! We are excited that you have decided to participate in the 2018 Columbus State University Homecoming Week. We have been working very hard on planning fun and exciting events that show our CSU Pride! In this packet, you will find: A schedule of events for the week of homecoming Rules, regulations, and point allocations for events so your organization can compete in winning prizes for homecoming. All Homecoming forms are located on CSUinvolve (RSO Registration, Homecoming Court Application) that are due. These forms can be found on the main page of the CSUinvolve site (csuinvolve.columbusstate.edu). Event Descriptions Banner Competition Due Wednesday, October 10 at the Mandatory Organization Meeting We want you to create a one of a kind school spirited Homecoming banner! They will be hung around campus to show your pride! Please see rules and regulations for important information on this event. Women s Soccer Game vs. GSW: Wednesday, October 17 6pm, Walden Soccer Field featuring Homecoming Court Announcement at halftime Come support your Women s Soccer team in a game against GSW! We will also announce court during the soccer game! Cougar Madness Wednesday, October 17 8pm-10pm, Lumpkin Center Come out and meet the Men s and Women's Basketball team for a spirit night! Paint The Paws Friday, October 19 10am-4pm, Main Campus Join us as we decorate the campus with Cougar Paws! Each organization will have an opportunity to make their mark on Columbus State University. We will assign your organization a space and all the supplies to decorate your organization s paw print. Limited number of paws, first come basis. Please see rules and regulations for important information on this event. Paint the Town Sunday, October 21 3-5pm, Uptown Columbus Every year, CSU kicks off homecoming week with Painting the Town. This event allows students to show their school spirit by painting a window in Uptown Columbus to show their CSU pride. Please see rules and regulations. Homecoming Food Fight Pantry Drive Monday, October 22 - Friday, October 26 CSU s 4rd Annual Food Fight is a competition to see who can collect/donate the MOST items during Homecoming Week. At the end of the week, the team with the overall most points will win the Food Fight! Each day there will be a barrel at that day s Homecoming activity. This is where the teams will place their donated items. A Homecoming Committee member will assist at the table writing down the Organization and the items given. There will also be a barrel that remains in the Student Life Office, Davidson 271, for those who want to drop off at times other than the event. It is the responsibility of the organization to label items to receive points. Each day will also have a theme, for the items donated. All items donated will be placed in the new CSU Food Pantry on campus or donated to local shelters. Please see rules and regulations for important information on this event. 4

Homecoming Kickoff Monday, October 22 11am-1pm, Clocktower Rain Location: Recreation Center, MPR Come out and join us for a fun filled event to Kickoff Homecoming! Downtown Domination Parade and Concert Featuring Mango Strange Friday, October 26 6:45pm, Parade (Uptown Columbus) ending at Woodruff Park Featuring Uptown Concert at Woodruff Park and followed by YP Scream on the Green Join CSU as we take over downtown to celebrate Homecoming! Kicking off the night with fun in the streets of Columbus for our annual parade down Broadway with Miss CSU, Student Organizations, Homecoming Court, and many more! Bring a blanket or chair and invite friends, family and other guests to enjoy an evening under the stars at the concert! Please see rules and regulations for important information on this event. Student Tailgating Saturday, October 27 11:30am-2pm, Cougar Way (Near Lumpkin) Come enjoy with students, faculty, staff and alumni as we get ready to watch the Men s and Women s Basketball! Tailgate spots must be reserved in advance on CSUinvolve and are limited. There will be live music and food trucks. Come join the fun! CougarFest 11:30am-2pm, Cougar Way (Near Lumpkin) Be a part of a new tradition at CSU and join us for Cougarfest! Inspired by Oktoberfest, Cougarfest will feature selections of craft beer from around the country. The guys from Maltitude will be on site to help expand your knowledge of craft beer! Tickets will be sold online prior to the event and at the door. This event is for adults 21 and older, a $10 ticket includes beer samplings and food. Women s V. Rules, Regulations, and Point Allocation Paint the Paws 1. Organizations may only paint inside their assigned paw print with designated paint and stencil provided. 2. Only individuals that are a part of an RSO may paint. 3. Organizations may only paint the following things in their paw: Organization name, organization letters (Greek organizations and/or honor societies), founding year or pre-approved lettering. Organizations will be given basic lettering and numbering. Greek lettering and CSU wording (e.g. Go Cougars) will also be provided. 4. In order to participate, each organization must reserve a paw, reservation is made on Organization Participation Form on CSUinvolve. 5. Each organization s assigned paw print will be considered theirs for one year. Paw prints will be visible to campus visitors; therefore paw prints must be presentable. It is your organization s responsibility to ensure your paw print is up to standards. Point Allocation: Each RSO that completes a paw print will be awarded 20 points toward their homecoming total. Paint the Town Requirements for Paint the Town 1. Organization may only paint assigned windows. 2. Participants will be provided window paint. Participants may also purchase more window paint if desired. 3. Must have organization's name on window(s) 4. Must have at least ONE of the following on window(s): pawprint, cougar, or a clocktower 5. Organization must relate their window to CSU and/or Homecoming theme. Must be appropriate. i.e. no profanity, distasteful drawings, etc 6. Organizations may not vandalize any other organization s window. If caught doing so, the team will be disqualified! 7. Judging will be based on creativity, originality, school spirit, clarity, and overall appeal. 8. Judging will take place at 5:00 pm. 9. Organization is responsible for cleaning window off NO LATER THAN Sunday, October 28nd by 3:00pm Homecoming Committee reserves the right to change or disqualify any entries** Point Allocation: The winner of the event will receive 30 points toward their weekly score. 10 points will be given for all organizations who paint a window. Banner Competition 1. Banner size may not exceed the size of a twin sheet. 2. Homecoming theme and organization name must be incorporated in banner design. 3. Banners need to be turned into the Homecoming Committee at the Mandatory meeting in order to be considered for competition. 4. Banners will be judged based on the following criteria: a. Originality/Creativity (25%) b. Incorporation of homecoming theme (40%) c. Neatness (35%) Point Allocation: 1 st place: 50 points, 2 nd place: 35 points, 3 rd place: 20 points; 10 points per organization that participates 7

Homecoming Food Fight Pantry Drive CSU s Annual FOOD FIGHT is a competition organizations to see who can collect/donate the MOST items during Homecoming Week. At the end of Thursday, the team with the overall most points will win the Food Fight! Each day there will be a barrel at that day s Homecoming activity. This is where the teams will place their donated items. There will also be a Homecoming Committee member at the table writing down the Organization and the items given. There will also be a barrel that remains in the Student Life Office for those who want to drop off at times other than the event. Monday= Breakfast food day! ex: cereal bowls, oatmeal bowls, granola bars Tuesday= Noodle day! ex: instant mac and cheese, ramen Wednesday= Canned goods day! ex: corn, green beans, canned fruit Thursday= Toiletries day! ex: toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant Homecoming Kickoff Point Allocation: Each person attending will receive 2 points toward organization's overall homecoming total. In order to receive points you must sign in at the Organization Sign-In Table, you may only designate one organization. Hypnotist ChrisJones Point Allocation: Each person attending will receive 2 points toward organization's overall homecoming total. In order to receive points you must sign in at the Organization Sign-In Table, you may only designate one organization. Paws Up Talent Show Point Allocation: Each person in attendance will receive 2 points towards organization's overall total. In order to receive points you must sign in at the Organization Sign-In Table, you may only designate one organization. 5 points for every organization member that competes. CougarNation Bonfire Point Allocation: Each person in attendance will receive 2 points toward organization's overall total. In order to receive points you must sign in at the Organization Sign-In Table, you may only designate one organization. Find the Cougar Scavenger Hunt Instructions: Break into groups of 3-4 members with assigned leaders. Each team will need to pick a team captain to lead them from place to place and hold onto items collected. Everyone will begin at the same place and have 1 hour to explore the campus with their group leader to each scavenger hunt station. As they travel to each station, the students will be required to get proof of attendance at each station (complete a task) in order to move on and win. Every time a task is completed, students will take a picture and post it to Instagram with the #CSUHC18 and tag @csu_studentlife for proof of completion. Teams cannot split up. At certain stations, each team will have to complete a short challenging activity in order to receive an object in addition to receive their next clue for the next station. The first team back ON TIME with their completed care package, will win the scavenger hunt and receive a grand prize. 8

Point Allocation: The winning team will receive 30 points to be added toward their organization s total. All participating teams will receive 10 points toward overall total. Block Party: Point Allocation: Each person in attendance will receive 2 points toward organization's overall total. In order to receive points you must sign in at the Organization Sign-In Table, you may only designate one organization. The organization who participates and wins the organization spirit chant contest will receive an additional 15 points. Students are encouraged to participate by bringing corn-hole games and/or wooden letters. An additional 5 points will be given to the organization. Dance: Point Allocation: Each person in attendance will receive 2 points toward organization's overall total. In order to receive points you must sign in at the Organization Sign-In Table, you may only designate one organization. Downtown Domination: Parade Parade Route, Setup, parking and participant information will be provided at Mandatory meeting. Float judging criteria: School Spirit and Incorporation of Theme on Float 25% Workmanship and color scheme 30% Originality & creativity 20% Point Allocation 1st place: 100 points; 2nd place: 80 points; 3rd place: 60 points; Participation: 30 points Floats: 1. Organizations may enter a float, trailer or car. Participants MAY NOT WALK, all entries must have motorized transportation. The Homecoming Committee will approve all entries. All entries must be in good taste and support CSU spirit. The Homecoming committee reserves the right to reject/disqualify and/or ask you to change entries if any entry is not in compliance with contemporary community standards. All music played must be the edited/clean version. 2. All size specifications will be enforced. The recommended size for a float is the size of a truck bed, but actual float dimensions may not exceed: Maximum Width: 9 feet by 6 feet Maximum Length: 16 feet by 8 feet Maximum Height (from ground): 10 feet by 10 feet Float regulations: 1. Floats may be pulled by any vehicle approved for street operations in the state of Georgia. All parade entries must be at designated starting point NO LATER than 6pm. Any entry not in the parking lot and checked in with Parade Director by 5:15pm will receive a penalty of 5 points for every 10 minutes late. All participants, who are riding must be in the correct location by 6pm. 2. Members of groups are allowed to ride on the floats during the parade, provided the float meets safety requirements. All participants on floats must remain seated during the entire parade route. Do not stand on trailer hitches. The Homecoming Committee reserves the right to determine if any vehicle has too many people riding on it. 3. Each group must, as a part of their official entry, designate a qualified, sober (meaning NO alcohol has been consumed) driver for the float and any other vehicle used in the parade. The Homecoming Committee reserves the right to determine the satisfactory state of each driver and may disqualify a driver if he or she does not meet the agreed standards. Upon disqualification of the driver, the entire entry will also be declared ineligible to participate in the parade. 4. All participants of the parade must be sober (meaning NO alcohol has been consumed) as well. Please be mindful that police (UPD & CPD) will be in place also to help with this event. Please be mindful that you are not only representing yourself and your organization, but Columbus State University as well. 9

5. All participants must conduct themselves in a respectable, sportsmanlike manner at all times. The Homecoming Committee reserves the right to limit individual students, alumni, or any other participation in the Homecoming Parade. If an individual cannot maintain the appropriate conduct as defined by contemporary community standards, he/she will be asked to leave parade, vehicle, float and site. All points for Homecoming Week will be forfeited as well. 6. Float beds may not be extended. A part of the float may protrude from the float body but no extensions to the floor of the float are permitted. Downtown Concert: 1. All campus rules outlined in the Columbus State University Student Handbook must be adhered to. Please see the website for more details. Point Allocation: None. Student Tailgating Set up may begin at 11am and competition judging will begin at 12pm. Judging criteria will be based on overall team spirit, decor, and clothing. The winner of the competition will win an award. Tailgate spots reserved on the RSO Registration form through CSUinvolve. Organizations responsible any and all setup (including providing own tent, chairs, grills etc). One table per group will be provided. No setup or electricity will be provided. No vehicles allowed in tailgating space. Only drop off of items allowed.
