This is a very welcome development after years of lobbying and as a matter of priority after the election we will progress this to the next stage and ensure the recommendation is implemented 5

ITBA Delegation visits Brussels it was great to see the good will displayed by senior decision policy. The horse is an agricultural animal and it should be included as a minority species which would solve a lot of medication issues. We highlighted the fact that in export terms the thoroughbred in Ireland ranks second only after beef in the agriculture sector. The ITBA now needs to focus our attention on working with our own Department of Agriculture to ensure I am particularly pleased with the progress we made with Zoetis, the company who has a near monopoly on the manufacture of a number of equine products. A dialogue has opened and we are happy that their stated commitment to the thoroughbred industry will be honoured going forward. 7

Industry Updates PLUS 10 REGISTRATION BECOMES EVEN MORE ATTRACTIVE FOR IRISH BREEDERS race The system and will be warmly received by breeders, while further encouraging breeders growing participation in the Plus 10 bonus scheme. This change was needed - the breeders investment cannot be wasted when inclusion in further registration stages to fully qualify horses is beyond their control. I am a big believer in the Plus 10 bonus scheme when the breeder gets rewarded - this makes it a much fairer system for all so I will continue to support it and register my foals and yearlings into the scheme. We have been very encouraged by breeders engagement with Plus 10 in its inaugural season, but we had received constructive feedback about how the scheme could be further improved. The committee is pleased to be able to implement this change, which allows the scheme to go from strength to strength and continue to encourage breeding and ownership of Irish and British bred racehorses. 16
Industry Updates (c0ntd.) PLUS 10 REGISTRATION (CONTD.) IMPROVEMENTS TO YEARLING AND FOAL SALES November Foal Sale to Begin on Sunday 13th November Flat Foal Section Introduced To December Sale This is a very positive move for Irish Breeders as it deals with two important issues that arose in 2015. A cheaper alternative at the optimum time for the smaller breeder can only help especially as it will also ease the pressure in November somewhat as well as giving people a little more Cathy Grassick, as Chairman of the ITBA Mare Owners Committee, and I have discussed the concerns on board and reacted so positively NEW FLAT BREEDING STOCK/FOAL SALE New Sale Scheduled for November 4th, 2016 Tattersalls Ireland 17

Other News in Brief The ITBA has a duty to educate breeders in all areas relevant to their daily livelihood and managing the safety needs within their workplace is essential. With the increase in farm related deaths in recent years our objective was to highlight the need for better knowledge, skills and attitude in all areas relating to safety and assist our members in raising awareness. This was achieved as was evidenced by the large turnout on the course and the was exceptionally rewarding.
