FROM THE SECRETARY PAM STRIJDER ITEMS OF INTEREST FROM THE COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON 23-07-2015 Our A.G.M. will be held in the Clubrooms at 7-30 p.m. on Thursday 6 th August and everyone is most welcome to attend. At this meeting a range of annual reports will be presented and fees for the new season will be set. Committee Members and officials for the forthcoming season will also be elected. A swimming camp is being organised for the September holidays. It will be held at the Geelong Grammar School. Thanks to Robyn Cogan for recently organising a sign writer to update all the honour boards in the clubrooms. Treasurer Margaret Kerr has recently arranged for our annual financial audit to be completed. We appreciate Mr. Milton Tattersall again completing this successful audit for us in a voluntary capacity. Thanks to Murray Nelson who is leading the planning for the movie night to be held at Lara Secondary College on 29 th August. Congratulations to John Perks for being invited to the District s A.G.M. in Colac on 9 th August. John will be the recipient of an award based on the points he accumulated at various meets during last season. Thanks to Natalie Hughes who is currently compiling our new annual booklet. Registration day will be held in the clubrooms between 10-00 a.m. and noon on Saturday 12 th September. We congratulate Anne Glenister who has recently qualified as a swimming teacher. It is fantastic that Anne is also willing to assist in our Learners Program. This season our first lesson for learners will commence at 8-40 a.m., followed by the second lesson at 9-10 a. m.

Our first Club Meet will be held at the Geelong Grammar School on Friday 9 th October. Although the Lara Pool does not officially open until 1 st November, it will be available for us to use for Club on Saturday 31 st October. All swimmers need to have paid their Swimming Victoria registration by the end of July at the very latest. Some families have experienced difficulty when trying to register multiple family members on-line. If this is a problem for anyone, it should be easily resolved by ringing Swimming Victoria on 96865222. From 1 st August onwards, the Committee cannot accept the responsibility of anyone entering the water without having current Swimming Victoria registration, as there would be no insurance cover. It is also very important for Club Membership Forms to be completed and handed to one of the coaches as soon as anyone starts training, thank you. These are very important so that the coaches have current contact details and any relevant medical information. Hi all, HEAD COACH S REPORT KATHY PLUMMER FOR JULY 2015 COMMITTEE MEETING At this stage of the season, swimmers continue working hard on building their base training. This involves numerous tasks such as aerobic/endurance, technique, drills, kick, pull, starts, turns, finishes, stroke count, stroke rate etc. Swimmers attendance at training has been consistent, with it being a little on the lighter side during the school holidays. It is good to see some junior development squad swimmers attending the morning sessions. Robyn offers training for the junior development squad on Monday afternoons and is now offering Wednesday afternoons as well. It is encouraged for junior development swimmers to attend both the Monday and Wednesday afternoon sessions. It would also be appreciated if families could notify Robyn at their earliest convenience if they are unable to attend any of their sessions. Some of the junior swimmers attended the Geelong Encouragement meet at Leisure link. Encouragement meets are the next step to compete outside of the Lara Club meets. The Lara Club meets prepare swimmers very well and the encouragement meets are a good opportunity for swimmers to gain more confidence and experience in competing. A fantastic effort with some great PBs. Other swimmers attended the Melbourne Viccentre short course meet at MSAC and also did some great PBs. Senior swimmers were encouraged to enter an event which they don t compete in as often eg: (200s and 400s) and raced in these events very well. (Great experience from the Lara Club Meets which help prepare swimmers). We had swimmers who entered the G.C.A. Meet at Waterworld, but unfortunately this was cancelled. Lara has been attending this meet for many years and always supports local clubs. Water training sessions are now Mondays (5.45am-7.00am) and Sundays (10.00am-12.00pm) at Waterworld. Tuesday, Thursdays and Fridays at Geelong Grammar (5.45am-7.00am). Swimmers have now completed their first block of Yoga/Pilates with Suz. Suz is unable to continue with these sessions, so swimmers will now have their strength and flexibility sessions at Waterworld on Wednesday from 6.00am-7.00am. At this stage most swimmers have been evaluated and have their programs ready to start. Please contact or see me at training if you have any queries or questions about the training or gym sessions. Thank you, Kathy Plummer
