NPHA WESTERN DIVISION RULES 2009-2010 Lead Line Western Open to riders ( 7 ) years of age or under. Western Attire must be worn. Judged on suitability of mount and presentation. May be asked to jog. Must consist of: Lead Line 7 years and under Off Lead Handler to stay next to horse. Beginner Western Rider Open to riders ( 18 ) years of age and under in their first or second year of showing who have never loped or cantered in any horse show division. This is a walk/jog division. Must consist of : Beginner Western showmanship Beginner Western Horsemanship ( pattern at judges Discretion ) Beginner Western Pleasure Beginner Western Trail ( optional for show management ) In Trail, a minimum of four obstacles must be used. These obstacles must be safe and maneuverable by a child. The rider must jog in the class but not through or over an obstacle. The following obstacles are suggested: bridge, mailbox, back up logs, or weave around cones. Prohibited obstacles are : jumps, side pass, gate and dragging item. Adult Beginner Western Rider Open to riders ( 19 ) years of age and older in their first or second year of showing who have never loped of cantered in any horse show division. This is a walk/jog division. May not enter into Jack Benny Lope class. Must consist of : Adult Beginner Western Showmanship Adult Beginner Western Horsemanship ( pattern at Judges discretion ) Adult Beginner Western Pleasure Adult Beginner Western Trail ( optional for show Management ) 12 and Under Youth - Open to children ( 12 ) years of age and under. This is a walk/jog division. Must consist of : Cloverleaf barrels Pole Bending Keyhole Novice Gymkhana Open to inexperienced riders, novice riders of any age in their first or second year of showing gymkhana either NPHA or elsewhere. Riders must wear proper attire as stated on open gymkhana. Junior riders are required to wear SEI approved helmets. Points are on the rider. Patterns rules/requirements will be available from each show manager. Must consist of: Novice Cloverleaf barrels Novice Pole Bending Novice Keyhole Novice Western Rider Open to junior and amateur beginners in their first and second year of showing at the lope/canter. Riders may cross enter into any eligible divisions except any walk/jog or walk/trot division. Competitors may remain in the division for the entire calendar year. Must consist of: Novice Showmanship Novice Horsemanship ( Walk/Jog/Lope ) ( pattern at judges Discretion ) Novice Pleasure ( Walk/Jog/Lope ) Novice Trail ( optional for show management ) A minimum of four ( 4 ) obstacles must be used. These obstacles must be safe and maneuverable by a novice. The rider may lope at the discretion of the judge, but not through of over an obstacle. Youth Western Rider 18 and Under Open to riders eighteen ( 18 ) years of age and under. Riders may cross enter into other eligible divisions. Points will be awarded on the rider. Show management has the right to split if entries warrant ( 13 and under ) ( 14 to 18 ). Must consist of: Youth Showmanship Youth Horsemanship ( pattern at the judge s discretion ) Youth Pleasure Youth Trail ( optional for show management ) Junior Western Pleasure Open to horses and ponies five ( 5 ) years of age and younger. Points are on the horse or pony. May be shown in snaffle or bosal: two hands on the reins are permitted. If a curb is used, only one hand on the rein is permitted. Curb chain is prohibited with snaffle bit. Must consist of: Junior Horse Walk/Jog Junior Horse Pleasure Junior Horse Pleasure Stake Senior Western Pleasure Open to horses and ponies ( 6 ) years of age and older. Points are on the horse or pony. Must consist of: Senior Horse Walk/Jog Senior Horse Pleasure Senior Horse Pleasure Stake Senior Western Rider Open to riders nineteen ( 19 ) and over. Riders may cross enter into any other eligible divisions. Points will be awarded to the rider. Must consist of at least four of the following classes: Open Walk/Jog Open Showmanship ( pattern at judges discretion ) Open Horsemanship Open Western Riding ( simple changes acceptable ) Open Trail Open Western Pleasure Stake Green Reining Jack Benny Western Open to riders thirty five ( 35 ) years of age and older. Schooling attire will not be penalized. Show attire not mandated, but only riders with proper attire may cross enter into other eligible divisions. Points are on the rider only. Must consist of : Jack Benny Showmanship Jack Benny Pleasure Walk/Jog Jack Benny Walk/Jog/Lope Jack Benny Horsemanship Walk/Jog Jack Benny Trail ( optional for show management ) Halter This division will award each subdivision a championship, reserve and 3 rd thru 6 th place ribbons. The Halter Division must offer all three ( 3 ) subdivisions. The top two horses in section A, B and C will return for a championship class at each NPHA event. Section A - Open to fillies and mares of all breeds. Section B - Open to geldings and stallions of all breeds. Handlers of stallions must be over 18 Section C - Two years old ( as of January 1 ) Open to mares, geldings, stallions without exception to height, breed. In addition the 1 st and 2 nd place horse in the championship class will be awarded the following points 1 st 2 points 2 nd 1 point. Open Driving This division is open to any breed or type of horse or pony, including draft horse. The division is open to exhibitors of any age and is a two wheel cart class. Racing sulkies, jog carts, and chariots are prohibited. Drivers under eighteen ( 18 ) years of age, must wear a safety helmet and be accompanied by an adult attendant. Exhibitors must be neatly attired. For points to count, participants must be entered in two ( 2 ) of the three classes. Open Pleasure Driving To be shown both ways of the ring at a flat walk. And a road gait. May be asked to halt and back. Exhibitors will be asked to reverse on the diagonal across the ring at the direction of the ring steward. Obstacle Driving - A pattern will be posted one ( 1 ) hour before the start of the division. Obstacles will include such things as mailbox, cones, tarps or other materials to cross over, and a walk-in and back-out with poles or white lines as markers. Reinsmanship This is an equitation class to be shown both ways of the ring at a flat walk, park gait and a road gait. May be asked to halt and back. Exhibitors will be asked to reverse on the diagonal across the ring at the direction of the ring steward. 5
ABERDEEN STABLES 2010 RULES Negative Coggins dated January 1, 2010 or later; All pets must be leashed and or restrained at all times. Aberdeen Stables Show Committee, volunteers, and NPHA will not be responsible for any loss or injury to any person, horse or property incurred on any show grounds. All English & Junior riders ( age 18 and younger ) MUST wear protective SEI Safety helmet while mounted on show grounds. Proper attire is recommended. All Lead Line and Junior riders and Gymkhana Riders MUST wear SEI approved helmets on show grounds. The Show Committee (s) reserves the right to combine, cancel, move classes, change officials or adjust the time schedule if necessary. There will be a one minute ring call for each class, strictly enforced! Failure to respond will result in elimination. Show secretary must be notified of all tack changes or conflicts. If there are less than 6 entries in any stake class, only first place will pay 20% of the total entry fees for that stake class in all shows. The entire division must be entered to be eligible for a stake class unless specified on the Prize List. NO REFUNDS AFTER ENTRY WITHOUT VERIFICATION OF VETERINARIAN DIRECTIONS From 81 North Take 81 N to 380 S toward Mt. Pocono/Milford. Take Moscow Exit, left onto route 690 E. Follow Rt. 690 into town. You will come to a T at Route 435, turn right onto Rt. 435 S. Make first left under the underpass continuing on Route 690 E. ** Go to Stop sign, go straight through, this becomes Aberdeen Road. We are about a mile and a half on left. For parking trailers, pass Aberdeen Stables, go to four corner intersection and turn left. You will see signs. From 380 North Take Gouldsboro Exit onto Route 435 N. Follow Rt. 435 N into Moscow. Make right turn under underpass onto Route 690 E. ** Follow above directions. 6
