Figting Hunger Worldwide NIGERIA September 2018-ISSUE 20 Borno and Yobe States Monitoring Report Higligts In most monitored markets of Borno and Yobe States, prices of staple cereals (maize, imported rice, millet and sorgum) ave decreased wen compared to te August 2018 as favourable seasonal arvest prospects ave encouraged traders to offload teir old stocks into te market, tus increasing supply. However, te price of local rice in most markets of Maiduguri (Borno State) ave continued to increase due to lingering market supply constraints. Compared to September 2017, maize price as increased by 11% in Abba Ganaram, 23% in Mond and 6% in Bullumkutu markets of Borno State wile prices of cowpea and red beans ave also increased by a range of 11% to 6% and 8% to 4% respectively in all markets of Yobe State Te cost of te Survival Minimum Expenditure Basket for a family of decreased by 3 percent from 19,78.08 Naira to 19,184.97 Naira in Maiduguri. In Damaturu, te cost of SMEB decreased by 11 percent from 17,3.00 Naira in August to 1,649.20 Naira in September 2018 wile in Yunusari a decrease of 3 percent was recorded. Te SMEB is made up of maize, rice, red beans, peanuts, palm oil/vegetable oil, salt and sugar. Introduction Monitoring prices are an overarcing indicator tat provides key information for WFP activities in nort eastern Nigeria, as tis elps to guide programming activities in relation to Cas-Based Transfer and contributes to te understanding of ow prevailing market conditions impact conflict-affected ouseolds' access to food. Against tis backdrop, WFP undertakes a bi-weekly monitoring of food commodities to gauge ow vulnerable and market-dependent ouseolds are affected by food price canges and te resulting impact of suc canges on te cost of te food basket. In Borno State, te monitored markets include Mond market, Abbaganaram, Budum, Kasuwan Sanu, Bullumkutu, Baga Road, Tasan Bama, Custom market. In Yobe State on te oter and, Damaturu, Bursari, Gujba, Potiskum, Jakusko, Geidam, Yunusari, Yusufari, Bade, Nguru and Gulani markets are monitored (Figure 1).
