Senior Hurling Tony Walsh Cup The Tony Walsh cup was not played due to a number of fixture clashes in 2017, it was great to see the it being played once again this past year in memory of Tony, who was a great player and administrator for this club. The very first winners of the cup were Tallow and they provided our oppostion.on the 22 nd of July Pairc Na Bríde looked glorious under the baking summer sun as ourselves and Tallow played out a highly competitive game. Tallow trained by our own clubman and former Senior Coach Joe Delaney got off to a bright start, but soon after we got into our groove and won on a scoreline of 2-14 to 0-15. Vice Chairman of the club Gerard Lane presented the cup to team captain Barry Johnson. Barry then spoke about the honour it was for him to be the first Bride Rovers player to accept the trophy. RedFm Senior Hurling League In last year s report I raised that an 18 game league was unworkable. The County Board decided that a revamp of all the hurling leagues was required in order to provide a more meaningful programme of games. In conjunction with the Senior Hurling league committee and clubs, it was proposed to have an 18 team league but each team only played 13 of those teams. It was also decided that going forward, two teams would be relegated and the winner of the current Division one league would be promoted. In 2013 we proposed a similar revamp but at the time the County Board decided against it, after much disatisfaction from a number of clubs. After winning eight of our thirteen games finishing in 5 th place, we qualified for the quarter final. On November 28 th, a full 12 weeks after our exit from the championship we played Glen Rovers. Following a superb start to the game the Glen rallied in the second half to win on a scoreline of 2.16 to 2.12. Cork County Senior Hurling Championship Following a decision from a special GAA Congress to revamp the inter-county championship, this had a serious knock on effect for the Cork club championships. There are still questions surrounding the current format that we have in Cork, players across the county are becoming furstrated by the long lay off between the first and second rounds. A revamp is likely to take place for the 2020 season with a more cut throat relegation likely to be proposed. We started our campaign with a heavy defeat in the first Round to Erins Own in Pairc Uí Rínn. In Round 2 we played Na Piarsaigh in Midleton, & from the first whistle there was only one team going to win it. We played a superb brand of hurling which saw us win by a margin of 13 points. This win was one of our finest displays since we joined the Senior ranks in 2004. This win put us into Round 3 on September 1 st in Castletownroche where

we were drawn against Newtownshandrum. The game itself was very even throughout but Newtown managed to score three goals, we had similar oppourtunities and didn t convert them. It was a huge dissapointment for the team as they looked to have control of the game but Newtown just finished the closing minutes stornger. The final scoreline was in no way a true reflection of the game, which was a lot closer than the 7 point margin. Our second goal was to try to change the way we played the game with a particular focus on possession, trying to keep the ball as best we could and finally precision, which was trying to work puck outs and space in front of players. Communication for Matches and training was facilitated by using a What s App groups and a detailed plan which was sent out to each players. But a disappointment would be that having qualified for the quarter final by the end of August the match versus Glen Rovers wasn t played until the 28 th of November. We lost the quarter final to the Glen by 2-16 to 2-12.

League 2018 Bride Rovers Games Played 13 Wins 8 Draws 1 Losses 4 Total scores 255 Total against 240 Average score per Game 20 Average against per Game 19 Championship This Championship this year we played 3 games winning 1, losing two, In the Erin s own games we were totally outclassed, losing justifiably and comprehensively 4-21 to 2-13. As a management team we took the decision, when the game was gone which was 5 min after half time, not to make substitutions so that players would be available to play junior. We played very well in the Na Piarsaigh game, winning 2.25 to 17. The biggest disappointment of the year was the Newtown game, we were well in it for 55 minutes when the score was 2-14 to 19 but we faltered in the final 5 minutes when Newtown scored 1-4 to our 1 point. 80 70 76 60 50 40 30 20 10 0 15 4 Training sessions Matches Challenge Matches The Tony Walsh Cup Important that we remember the contribution that Tony made to this club, a great man and great friend, after a good hour of hurling we emerged victorious on a score line of 2-14 to 15 points. Discussion points As the manager/coach for the 2018 season some points I would like to discuss; April the month of the club This while finally recognising that contribution that clubs make, I found a bit frustrating, I suppose I would use this analogy. Some years ago, a neighbour of mine, had donkeys and horses, every year in winter he would leave the donkeys out on the roads to forage for grass, while he kept the horses in, kept them warm and fed them nuts and hay That s what a club player feels like in the current set up, put us out in wet, dark conditions where we are forced to play under lights to get a few games. To me the April month is a bit of a farce, you can t get meaningful games in February and March to prepare for championship. What club players want I ve play at adult level with the club for 25 years, every year in my opinion its getting worse in regard to the club player, the inter county scene now starts in November with trips abroad to promote the game, the Munster senior league begins in December, the national league in January, the super 8 s in May. The club player is totally squeezed, I compare it to letting 100 kids to school but only teaching 1% of them, what kind of an association are we trying to create. All club players are asking for is 1. Meaningful competition in the summer 2. Confirmed dates to when championship is planned.

At the moment players can t plan holidays, concerts, weekends, it has to be addressed. I believe the clubs should be canvassing the players to get involved in the Club players association, unless all clubs get together and force a better deal, we will forever be picking up the crumbs! Below is a graph of our attendance at training this year, we basically lost 33% of players during in the summer months, when we should be out enjoying this great game 30 Average Monthly Attendance At Training 25 20 15 10 Average Attendance At Training 5 0 The Cork system The control Cork has from development squads to senior needs to be reviewed, we cannot have a system whereby players are told not to play for their clubs. Putting players in situations they do not want to be in, I found it disappointing this year that we had to ring the county board 5 days before a championship match to release a player. This is a reflection of the Cork system, nothing to do with players. The Club Over the next number of years there will be a need for the club to dip into the minor ranks to get players to play senior, that is due mainly to the talent they have but also the age profile of the older players in club. We all need to review fixtures so that players can be managed effectively. The general attitude that theses fixtures are written in stone needs to be looked at. Playing a league game is not as important as playing championship. Finally I m very concerned the direction the GAA is taking, it is now all about the elite, the top 1%, the county board recently came out and said they were concerned about the standard in the club game, a football plan etc. The simple answer is to give players the certainty when matches are on, in conditions that are conducive to playing the game so that they can prepare properly. We must remember that the GAA was founded with the principle aim to foster and promote Irish pastimes. The question is are we really doing that?

The Team I would like to say a special thanks to Liam, Tom, Fitzy and Aiden Dorgan our stat man, wonderful GAA men with terrific pride and passion for the club. Our conditioning coach Mark Eaton for preparing the team and for buying into the Bride Rovers values and to senior panel that really put in a massive effort, worked very hard and with great pride, they gave me a lot of enjoyment through the year. Hugh congratulations to the u21 s and minors, the future is bright with the talent we have coming, so I would like to wish the new management the very best in 2019. Junior A Hurling East Cork Junior Hurling League Division One Following promotion to Division one for 2018, we struggled to continue the rich vein of league form that we had the previous year. With a large number of juvenile players graduating through to the adults grades, this year was always going to be a year of transition where the newer players found their feet and were challenged by the more physical games. There is no doubt that year on year these Junior games will stand to players as they push to make the Senior Team. East Cork Junior A Hurling Championship We began our Championship campaign in June with a defeat to Sarsfields in Watergrasshill, it was a game that we could have won but for a few minor errors near the end, which led to Sars tagging on a few late scores to win by six. This led us to a second round where we were drawn against Killeagh. We played the game under lights in Ballynoe the same night as our Seniors had defeated Na Piarsiagh. This may have been a factor but on the night our lads were flat. We were beaten by twenty points, this was not a true reflection on the effort put in by both the players and the management thoughout the year. Personally I feel that its important to be playing at the higher grades but having failed to win a game at this level since 2015 there may need to be a debate surrounding our status. Hopefully the experience of this year especially will help the younger players going forward. A special thanks to the team management of Oliver O Connor and Daniel Dooley.

Junior C Hurling East Cork Junior Hurling League Division 3 Our third team got their league campaign under way in April, with a defeat to Aghada but they bounced back with a victory over Dungourney and Fr O Neills, but were defeated by Russell Rovers, Killeagh, Carraig na bhfear and Youghal. East Cork Junior C Hurling Championship In our first round we got a walkover from Sarsfields, this put us directly into the East Cork semi final where we faced Midleton. The game was played on November the 8 th in Midleton. This was a very tight game, where we fielded a mix of both young and more experienced players. The game was in the melting pot right up until the final minutes where we had a what looked like a perfectly good point from Dave Burke, ruled out as being a wide ball. The game finished in defeat for our lads on a scoreline of 1-08 to 1-10. The Junior C team is a vital team for our club, as it keeps many of these players active and is a great social gathering of many men, from various clubs that are now living in the parish. I wish to thank the management team of Mossie O Sullivan and James Murphy for all they have done for this team.

Under 21 A Hurling East Cork Under 21 A Hurling Championship We began our Under 21 Hurling campaign in July versus St Catherines. We knew coming into this game that it was going to be very tough, it lived up to be exactly that. After a nervous start we ended up winning by seven points. Our next game was due against Youghal, but they failed to field a team, which meant that we were through to a semi final. Here we were pitted against our near neighbours Castlelyons in a repeat of the 2017 final. In early September we headed for Dungourney and after a few nervous patches in the first half we came out in the second half and hurled superbly to win by five points. The final against Carrigtwohill was fixed for Lisgoold. It was an end to end battle in wet conditions. We led into the closing minutes but conceded a late goal to send the game to a replay. Having not won an East Cork U21 title since 1997, the display of work rate that these boys showed in the replay versus Carrigtwohill was a joy to behold. From the throw in our lads displayed some fantastic character and fine hurling skill to win by eight points. There were joyous scenes at the full time whistle as team captain Shane Walsh collected the Ben Purcell Cup. County Under 21 A Hurling Championship The team had little time to celebrate our East Cork title, just three days after claiming victory over Carrigtwohill,we faced Carbery winners Newcestown,in the County Quarter final in Blarney. This was always going to be a tough encounter as we knew little about our opponents. The game started that way as both teams struggled to really impose themselves on the game. We led by two points at the short whistle and then in the second half the players worked ferociously hard to engineer two goals and finish the game winning by ten points. This win meant we now faced the Seandun champions Passage in a county semi final. Passage fresh from winning their first adult hurling title since 1990 were no doubt confident of giving our lads a good game. From early on in Riverstown on October 27 th our lads showed that there was only going to be one winner. It was a very accomplished performance from the team which saw us run out victors by 14 points. Following a number of fixture issues we finally played the County Final on Sunday December 9 th in Pairc Ui Rinn. Cloughduv having been crowned Munster Junior Champions were coming into this game on a high, the game was very tight throughout. We got an early goal from Conleith Ryan but this did not dispirit the Cloughduv men who rallied once more. It was not until the 55 th minute of the game that we looked like we were going to claim our first ever Under 21 County title, when Brian Roche and Conor Barry scored a couple of classy scores to claim the Jim Sarsfield Memorial cup. A special word of thanks to the management team of Brian Murphy, Fergus Collins, Stephen Glasgow, Daniel Lane, Barry Hazelwood and Richie O Regan who left no stone unturned in their preperation. Also a big thank you to a great friend of the club Jimmy Barry-Murphy for his help with this team.

Junior B Football East Cork Junior Football League Division 3 I mentioned in my report last year that we needed to get a Junior football team playing in the league for 2018. Thankfully this year it was decided that we would enter a team in the East Cork football league, the first since 2014. They got their campaign under way in July with a win over Castlemartyr then were deated by Russell Rovers but they bounced back with a victories over St Catherines and Cobh and drew to both Glenville and Glanmire. At the time of writing we are still awaiting a date for the league final versus Glenville. East Cork Junior B Football Championship For 2018 the East Cork Board trialled a round robin structure for the championship. A superb effort was put in by a group of players who committed to football for the year. Their efforts were rewarded by going one step further than 2017 by reaching the East Cork Final. Unfortunately we faced a strong Russell Rovers side once again, on a blustry August day in Ballinacurra we faced the Shanagarry/Ballycotton men, after a tight affair that was in the melting pot for long periods they just pulled away from us. Great credit must go to the players who gave it everything in their attempts to win the title. Russell Rovers then went onto win the County title. A big thank you to the team management of Pa O Driscoll, Liam Barry, Ken Drury and Jason Pratt. Under 21 C Football East Cork Under 21 C Football Championship For 2018 it was decided to regrade our Under 21 team to the C. In March we faced Carraig na bhfear in the First Round. Our lads played a good brand of Football putting up a superb scoreline winning 3-14 to 3-07. Carraig na bhfear went into the second round and were successful over Carrigtwohill which once again pitted us against them in the semi final. In this game the free flowing football that we played previously wasn t evident as Carraig na bhfear didn t allow us this time around. They won on a scoreline of 1-09 to 1-07, which was a dissapointing end to our campaign. Thanks very much to Pa O Driscoll and Liam Barry for managing this team. Juvenile Club Taken from the Juvenile Club AGM Report by Lisa Collins. U6 s competed in numerous blitzes throughout the season showing tremendous skill at such a young age. U7 s, 8 s & 9 s competed in numerous blitz s also but under Rebel Og format, playing in Pairc Uí Chaoimh. U10 represented the club in the annual Ballyduff Tournament and competed in the Rebel Og League. U11 winning the Gerard Kenny Memorial Blitz, unsuccessful in the Celbridge blitz, defeated in the semi-final. U12 Winning the Jimmy Myles Perpetual Cup for the third year in a row. U13 s reached semi final P2 Hurling League. U14 s victorious in winning the P1 Hurling League and also victorious in winning the Theresa Walsh Memorial Tournament, where a fantastic day was had by all. U15 s reached semi-final of both championship and league. U16 s progressed to 2nd round of Championship. Minors crowned County & league Champions in P2 Hurling. The representation from our club playing for Cork this year was phenomenal. Cork U14 hurlers Adam Walsh, Conor Hazelwood, Cillian Tobin, Ronan O Connell, Josh Ahern and David Barry in winning both the Tony Forristell & Sonny Walsh All Ireland Series Tournament in Waterford. Edmund Cashman representing the club in U15 Cork team, reaching the Final against Galway. Kieran Kearney made and competed in games with the Cork Minor Development Squad of 2018. Patrick O Flynn represented the club in the Cork Minors this year, Eoin and Brian Roche on the U21 Panel, wining the Munster Title beating Tipperary but unsuccessful to Tipperary in the All Ireland U21 Hurling Final. Sciath Na Scoil was another great achievement this year, big congratulations to Rathcormac NS in reaching the final and Bartlemy Ns, reaching the semi final both contesting amazing games. The Cul camp was a great success again this year thanks to Annemarie Knox and Jerome O Driscoll and Jammy Barry for co-ordinating. David Barry, Adam Walsh, Conor Hazelwood, Cillian Tobin, Ronan O Connell & Josh Ahern who were part of the Cork Under 14 Hurling Squad in 2018.

Minor County League and Championship Winners This year saw the culmination of years of hard work and dedication with the winning of the Premier 2 Hurling Championship & League. This group had tasted success down through the years and once again when the chips were down they dug deep to claim this unique double, a first ever Premier title for the club. A special mention must be given to the parents of these boys and the coaches that they have had thoughout their Juvenile years since the first day they set foot in Pairc Na Bríde. Congratulations to the management team of Denis Ahern, Alan Fitzgerald, Jerome O Driscoll, Donal Roche, Barry Johnson and Martin O Sullivan who left no stone unturned in ensuring that they were fully prepared this year. East Cork Junior B Championship Another great year for Bride Rovers Ladies with a win in the East Cork Junior B Championship for our Junior Ladies Football team who defeated Youghal. Camogie Parish League On Saturday the 6th of October 2018 the Under 6, Under 8 and Under 10 camogie teams held a hugely successful parish league in the main pitch where a total of 43 young ladies showcased the skills of camogie in a series of mixed games. Passage Blitz Football Congrats to the U8 and U10 girls to took part in the annual Passage West Blitz on Saturday 8th of September 2018. Despite the weather the girls enjoyed themselves and played brilliant football. Thanks to all to took part and to Francis and all in Passage West GAA for a fantastic day. Well done. Rathcormac 4 Mile Road Race Bride Rovers Ladies & Max Runners in conjunction with St. Nicholas A.C. presented the highly anticipated Jump Juice Bars Rathcormac 4 Mile Road Race on Thursday last 23rd of August in which a total of 308 runners turned up for this year s race, a whopping 35% increase on the 225 of last year! Last year's race proved to be hugely successful and attracted athletes from clubs across Cork to participate in this year's road race. Pairc Na Bríde Pairc Na Bríde was a hive of activity for both young and old in 2018. The small and large astroturfs were particularly busy at both the beginning and at end of the year. It is attracting a lot of interest from neighbouring clubs who have used the facility on a number of occasions. The main pitch and especially the small astroturf is attracting unwanted attention, through anti social behaviour particularly during the summer months. We have had to put in place certain measures to prevent this from re-occouring. The Main pitch saw a lot of activity between hosting our own matches and training and also the hosting of games for both the Cork County Board and the East Cork Board. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who helped in anyway to ensure the smooth running of these occasions, but as always more help is always needed. Pyne s Pitch and Scannell s field are fantastic facilities to have at our disposal, catering for the ever growing number of teams that we have in the club. The new fencing, footpath and improvements to the viewing areas in the Main pitch has given a fresh and modern look to the field.money will need to be spent on our dressing rooms in the coming years to bring them up to a new level to cater for our increasing number of teams and player needs. A special thank you to the Grounds Committee in particular Denis Ahern and John Murphy for the time and effort they put in maintaning our playing fields. This is a disappointing figure considering that our total elected members to the executive is 30. There are a number of people attending almost every meeting but we need to increase attendance in 2019. Eoin and Brian Roche were on the Cork panel that won a Munster U21 Title and came so close to winning the All Ireland U21 Hurling Final versus Tipperary in the Gaelic Grounds. Patrick O Flynn was on the Cork Minor Hurling team that narrowly lost out on making the Munster final, Patrick had some great days with that team in both Pairc Ui Chaoimh and Semple Stadium. Kieran Kearney too played a key role in winning the All Ireland Under 17 Celtic Challenge title with Cork. The Cork Under 14 hurlers featured the following Bride Rovers players; Adam Walsh, Conor Hazelwood, Cillian Tobin, Ronan O Connell, Josh Ahern, and David Barry. They won both the Tony Forristal and Sonny Walsh Cups in August. Edmund Cashman also excelled with the Under 15 Hurling team and is showing some real promise for the future. Jennifer Barry was a sub on the All Ireland Senior Camogie winning team and starred at midfield for the Cork Intermediates who won the All Ireland Final and also to Mossie O Sullivan who was a selector on that team. Well done to Katie Quirke, Sarah Murphy and Aine Keating who represented Cork in Minor Football, Lily Murray and Abbie Hoare at Under 14 and Ava Barry, Lily Murray, Abbie Hoare and

Ciara Morrison with the Cork Under 13 Development squads. Shauna Hayes represented the club for the Cork Under 16 Camogie team who lost the All Ireland Final. Congratulations also to Caoimhe Hazelwood, Emma Barry, Shauna Hayes who were part of the Loreto Senior Camogie team who captured the All Ireland title last March. A lot of work goes in to the promotion of Gaelic Games in our two local Primary Schools, due mainly to the efforts of schools coaches Noel O Brien and Pat Barry. This has led to some success by both Schools in the last number of years in the Sciath Na Scol competition. I wish to thank the Principals of both schools for affording us the opportunity to coach the young players of the future. Public Relations Promoting and displaying our club to the community has been taken to a new level in recent years, with numerous social media platforms now widely available. The club notes in the Avondhu, thanks to our P.R.O John Arnold, are a great source of information to those at home and abroad. The club text service is at its busiest in the summer months and provides regular fixtures and other news updates to 337 people stretching from Kildinan to Kenya. The club website, www.briderovers.ie continues to see considerable traffic, with 52,000 page views in the past twelve months. The photo gallery, news, events calendar and history section were the most popular pages this year. We had visits from 64 different countries, including significant numbers from Australia, Canada and as far away as South Africa and China. The website s usefulness in promoting our fundraising activities is a vital resource along with items such as astroturf bookings. I encourage all our members to support our sponsors whenever possible. Fundraising The cost of running the club teams and facilities are increasing year on year. The selfless work put in by our lotto sellers is very much appreciated and is bringing in much needed funds on a weekly basis. The jackpot has been at 20,000 since February 2018 which is increasing our average weekly lotto intake. A sincere thank you to those who sell tickets for the Club Lotto and also to those who give up their time so generously every Tuesday night to ensure its smooth running. I want to take this opportunity to thank the Rathcormac Inn and Barry s Bar for hosting our lotto on a weekly basis. The re-established Finance & Development Committee was tasked to look at ways to raise funds for the club. As the numbers participating in our games increase, we need to be a club that is driven to providing the best possible facilites to cater for their needs. The launch last January of the Club 100 Membership package has generated an income of over 50,000 towards development at Pairc Na Bríde. These are exciting times to be involved in such a committee and I thank each member for their efforts to date.

Referees 2018 was another great year for our Referees and their officials. We are very lucky in the club to have three referees operating at the top level. James Bermingham continues to climb the refereeing ladder, it was a great honour to see him promoted to the GAA National Linesmen Panel this year. James also had the honour of running the line for the All Ireland Minor Football Final and also refereeing national league games. Pa O Driscoll is now widely regarded as one of the top referees in the County. Pa officiated at many County and Divisional matches in 2018. He was added to the Munster referess panel and also did Munster minor football matches in 2018. Mark Murphy is also officiating at County and Divisional level. A special word must also be given to Raymond Hegarty who acts as umpire for Ireland s top referee Conor Lane. Similar to 2016, Raymond had the honour of being umpire for the All Ireland Football final between Dublin and Tyrone. A sincere thank you must also go to the dedicated team that each of our referees have with them, umpires and linesmen that support them along the way. 1968 & 1969 East Cork Junior Champions Honoured On September 28 th last we honoured the victorious 1968 and 1969 East Cork Junior A Hurling Champions. In what was a great social event held at the Rathcormac Inn, it brought together a team which had the honour of winning and retaining the Jamesy Kelleher Cup. On the night each player was presented with a beautifully hand crafted clock in the shape of a hurley which were made by Denis Ahern. It was wonderful to see so many of the team meet up and reminisce of those glory days. Fr Seanie Barry who was team captain for both years spoke of his memories from that time along with our PRO, Club Historian and MC on the night John Arnold, as well as East Cork Board Chairman Donal O Keeffe. Unfortunatley some members of this team have passed to their eternal reward but it was wonderful that their families were able to attend on the night also. Fr Martin Barry of Sarsfields and James Roche of Carrigtwohill also spoke of clashes with this team in the years gone by and were delighted to attend the function. Dan Quill R.I.P An ordinary man who made an extraordinary contribution On Friday November 9 th last we were met with the devastating news that our Club Treasurer Dan Quill had passed away suddenly at his home in the early hours of that morning. Dan and his dear wife Mary moved to Rathcormac in the 1980 s and from day one he immersed himself in Bride Rovers. It was through this work that Dan gained the respect of so many as he quickly gathered a reputation for being hard working and trustworthy. He held many positions in those early years and was both Treasurer and Chairman of our Juvenile club. This led him into team management where Dan was manager of our Junior A Hurling team for five years and then became manager of our Junior C Hurlers, he was honoured to be at the helm in 2016 when the Junior C s won the East Cork Championship. In 2011 he was appointed Treasurer of our adult club. This came at a time when the club were looking at upgrading our facilites, Dan with his expertise in banking was in the right place at the right time. He worked very hard, putting in long hours overseeing that the paperwork was completed correctly and even travelling to the Department in Killarney to secure grant aid and funding for our astroturf facilities, which was built debt free. These facilities stand as a testament to Dan s dedication and hard work. Dan was our weekly lotto draw co-ordinator and he oversaw this every Tuesday night and ensured everything was meticulously looked after. He always enjoyed his Tuesday night, having the craic with the lads and looked forward to it every week. Since his passing I have missed my regular Tuesday night catch up with Dan, as I used to drop my tickets to his home. I was always met with a smile as we discussed the week s events along with matches played and yet to be played. Dan was great for keeping you grounded when required and was always a source of advice to me when certain issues or problems arose. Dan was straight in his own unique way and always said it out as he saw it. The large numbers that gathered for his wake and funeral mass were an indication of how highly regarded people in the community and in Bride Rovers held Dan Quill. As I finish up as Secretary of the club I am honoured to have worked with so many great officers but I will always remember fondly working alongside Dan, even with the age gap that existed between the two of us we became very close and I will be forever thankful to Dan for this friendship. Bride Rovers is in a better place thanks to the contribution of Dan Quill. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.

It is my privilege to have presented to you my final Annual Report and I wish to take this opportunity to thank a number of people who have helped me during my time as Secretary of Bride Rovers. Firstly, I would like to thank the many management teams and players that I have worked with during my time. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Joe Delaney with whom I worked closely with for my first two years as Secretary. This year saw a change in Senior hurling management, as agreed with the manager Pat Walsh I liaised with selector Liam Barry and we had a very close working relationship and for that I would like to personally thank Liam for his efficiency. Pat has stepped aside this year and I want to thank him sincerely for his efforts, there s no denying that managing the fixtures and the long layoff in the summer is a major challenge for team managements and officers alike. I wish Chairman Richie, Aiden Dorgan, Richie Cahill and Mark Landers all the best for 2019. I wish to thank our Juvenile Chairman Mark O Connell and his officers for their efforts during the past twelve months. This year saw unprecedented success for our Juvenile club, but this was no accident, it was the culmination of years of hard work by the coaches of these teams and long may it continue. To the Ladies Club and in particular their Chairman Pat Culloty, I want to thank you for your dedication not just to the Ladies but also for the valued contribution that you give to our club. The Ladies Club play a vital role in Bride Rovers and it is great to see women of all ages participating in Gaelic Games. Tonight, we also remember the many supporters and members who passed away in 2018. I want to especially remember Dan Quill, Jim Bob O Donovan and Mary O Dowd. There sad and sudden losses will be greatly felt for some time to come. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam. I wish to place on record my sincere thanks to the two Chairmen that I have worked with. Firstly, Billy Finnegan and currently Richie O Regan, they have always been a guiding light for me on a range of issues and will be forever thankful for their support. Also, a huge thank you to our PRO John Arnold, members of the Club Executive, board delegates, team managements, players, lotto sellers and sub-committees for the tireless work that you do, your work does not go unnoticed and on my own behalf I want to thank you all sincerely.

Catering for our teams is going to be a major challenge for us going forward and we need more people to come on board and support the club not just financially but through volunteerism. Our AGM for example has had poor attendances for the past number of years and I would be concerned that we many struggle to get people to take up officership roles in the future, the large numbers involved in coaching at underage level is extremely encouraging but the struggle to get officers and team mentors for our adult teams is a worrying trend. The role of Secretary is a very rewarding one that puts you in contact with many wonderful GAA people both inside and outside of the club. Of course, I will continue to be there to support the new Runaí to ensure a smooth transition. I was brought up to have a great love for Bride Rovers and it was a huge honour to have represented this club as Secretary for the past three years. The club is in a very good position but it s imperative that we do not take our eye off ball and we all work together to bring further success as we move towards our centenary.
