PRIME DISPATCH Edition 38 11 november 2014 Compiled by joe o neill Hijack Hussy s day winning at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day Trainer Tony Gollan FLEMINGTON CARNIVAL It is every owner s dream to have a runner at Flemington during the famous four day carnival. This year we had three good horses wearing our colours. It was fantastic to win a race with Hijack Hussy. Winners are hard to come by with some of the stables that failed to win a race during the week included Gai Waterhouse, Peter Moody, Robert Smerdon and Mick Price while John O Shea, Darren Weir, Team Hawkes, Peter Snowden and David Hayes won one race for the week. It is tough out there and some of the bigger stables had big numbers representing them. I m thrilled with our results with the only real disapointment being Shining Brooke which was found to have a respiratory issue after the race which would have affected her performance. I m not sure if Brad Rawiller had Husson Eagle in the right place during the race on Saturday but there isn t much we can do about that now. Husson Eagle s 5 th in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes where he beat some of the country s best three year olds was a fantastic performance. Looking to the future we have some terrific talent that should fly our flag high over the coming years. Page 1

As the great Jack Gibson would have said you done good, played strong. Yours truely, Walter Power, David Morrow and Drew Morphett With the 2014 Melbourne Cup DAVID MORROW AND DREW MORPHETT These two fine ABC sports commentators have been wonderful supporters of mine over the years and this year s Cup carnival will be the last time they work together at the ABC. David has decided to retire from the ABC but is likely to take up a very high profile appointment with a Sydney commercial styation whee he will be the leading Rugby League caller. We went for dinner after the Emirates day meeting and many great memories and stories were recounted. I m certain David s listeners particularly those in country NSW and Queensland, will wish him all the very best and miss his wonderful calls alongside his great friend Warren Ryan who retired a few months ago. David, good luck to you and your family. ON THE TRACK On paper we look to have a very interesting week ahead. On Wednesday we have Terra Amata, Savoureux and Makeadane running at Warwick Farm. It is exciting to have three horses that are live chances running at a Sydney metropolitan meeting. Page 2

On Saturday we have Faith N Courage running in Brisbane while on Sunday our team for the Tasmanian Summer Carnival kicks off with Rumeron and Bella Venus set to start their preparations in Hobart. Sanosuke is nominated for Sunday in Newcastle. We have sent Awasita, Pitt Street and Princess Royale to Hobart with some nice races to be targeted during the carnival. We may well have a couple more to head down in the next month. The Tasmanian Summer Carnival is a very good one with plenty of stakes money on offer. TONY GOLLAN Tony Gollan has gone from strength to strength over the past two years and is now rightly regarded as Queensland s best trainer. From a Prime perspective he has been very impressive and I have purchased him a nice Husson colt out of a well related Pins mare Poplars. At $3,950 per 10% share he is very affordable and a great buy. The recent stakes increases in Queensland are significant and makes the Sunshine State a very good place to race. Tony has had very good success with the progeny of Husson including Looks Like The Cat and Hi Son. Husson had some outstanding performances during the Spring Carnival with horses of the calibre of Lucky Hussler, Looks Like The Cat and Husson Eagle flying the flag. I have included information on the colt later in this dispatch. I AM INVINCIBLE FLYING Another double on the weekend sees I Am Invincible surging to the lead in the 2 nd Season Sire s Table for stakes money earned, winners and races won. He is flying with the Yarraman Park team being on a real winner. Their new boy Hinchinbrook has got off to a good start with a stakes placing at Flemington as well as a metropolitan placing at Randwick on Saturday. ACCOUNTS Most of our clients are great payers. For the few of you that are slow please lift your game. We pay all our suppliers before the end of each month. Could the client who paid in $1,177 on 24/10 contact us so we can credit your account!!! It is important you identify who you are when making a direct deposit into our accounts. Page 3

OFF FOR A BREAK I will be away for most of the next two weeks. If you have runners you will be advised by Stablesmart or email. PITT STREET WINNING MUSWELLBROOK CUP I must say I got a terrific amount of satisfaction when Pitt Street won the Muswellbrook Cup on Melbourne Cup Day. I first saw him as a weanling in a paddock at Lindsay Park in SA and was determined to purchase him if I could. Eventually we agreed on a price and he has been a great horse for his loyal band of owners. In addition to the Muswellbrook Cup he has won the Tamworth and Walcha Cups and also been placed in good races such as the Ballina Cup. He has won at Flemington and Morphettville and been placed in Sydney metropolitan races on several occasions. In total he has won 8 races from 42 starts and $368,770 in stakes money. He cost $55,000 as a weanling. Page 4

HUSSON COLT OUT OF POPLARS TONY GOLLAN TO TRAIN Husson has continued to punch above his weight with Lucky Hussler s effort to be beaten in a photo in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes an outstanding effort. I see Peron is nominated in Perth for the WATC Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes and Lucky Hussler may well run in the WATC Group 1 Railway Stakes. If I owned him he would be getting ready for the ATC Group 1 Doncaster!!!. The Colt Husson (Arg) / Poplars colt 2013 This colt is strong well balanced athlete with great bone and good conformation. In my opinion he was almost as good a colt as was in the Patinack Dispersal and represented great value when I purchased him. We rated him just behind the two top selling colts in the sale. He may well be the best valued buy from the sale. He is a great walking colt with a great swagger and looks like a racehorse which is a common trait through the nice colts by Husson. They are well balanced horses. Page 5

Husson The colt is by Hussonet s best son at stud in Husson and is a product of a very potent cross with Husson s sire Hussonet only having four Snippets (Pins sire) mares going to him for four stakes winners including our smart two year old Huiskes. The other three are Husson Lightning (successful sire in WA), Rio Carnival and Girl Hussler. The results for Pins mares going to Husson is also very positive with two winners in Man Of Melody and Morals from just two to race. It should be remember Hussonet came to Australia as a relatively old horse with his first crop of yearlings in Australia being born in 2004. his first crop in Chile were dropped in 1995. He is a super stallion and was brought to Australia by John Messara. I have a very good filly with Tony Gollan named Hijack Hussy by Hussonet out of a Redoute's Choice mare. She was a sensational winner at the Gold Coast last Saturday and heads to Melbourne to run at Flemington. The only other Hussonet filly I purchased was the stakes winner Huiskes out of a Snippets mare. Poplars (NZ) Poplars is a daughter of the very good racehorse and sire Pins by Snippets. I have highlighted the results achieved by Pins daughters going to Husson and Snippets mares going to Hussonet. Pins is proving to be a very good broodmare sire with 108 winners from 183 starters including the high class colt Brambles as well as High Fashion, Golden Archer, Dowager Queen, Asavant, Lopov and Dugan. Pins represents the best colonial bloodlines on offer in Australia with his sire Snippets, a Champion Broodmare Sire being by Champion Broodmare sire Lunchtime out of a Kaoru Star mare No Finer. Kaoru Star was the sire of the great Luskin Star and himself a great sire of Brodmares.. It is of no surprise Pins daughters are doing the job at stud. Poplars has had just the one to race with the filly named Craw winning two races. 10 shares @ $3,950 each. Page 6
