FOX TROTTIN TI MES UPCOMING BAFTA TRAIL RIDE TO BE A MFTHBA RIDE FOR POINTS! We are all very Excited here at BAFTA ; as we got approval for our upcoming trail ride to be sanctioned as a National MFTHBA trail ride! Which means, riders will be able to accrue points towards recognition awards. The date for the ride is the weekend of May 2&3, 2015 at Lake Delle Valle in Livermore. In order for it to be a nationally pointed MFTHBA trail ride, it will be an over night event with rides both days. We are presently working out all the details of the ride. So, more information will be forth-coming. Pat Duran has graciously offered to be our trail guide for the ride. We couldn t be happier for her assistance. If you are interested in points for the ride? Check out the Fox Trot America website and join! Here s the link: Fox Trot American Strike A Penny Strikes it Rich with the Therapeutic Riding program (Article written and Submitted by: Judy Jordan) I am so proud of my little mare "Strike a Penny", she is now twenty years old and has the serious job of helping disabled and handicapped children in the Theraputic Riding program being held at our barn every Tuesday evening Penny was also working as a Christmas Pony during the Christmas season when "Penryn Oaks Stable" held it s annual "Santa's Secret Adventure" event. Penny was one of a small group of horses and ponies that were used so the children could experience riding a "real" horse. (We are so appreciative when our members continue to show how much Value and Joy these MFT Horses can Bring!) 4
FOX TROTTIN TI MES Cowboy Dressage with Pat Duran and her Amazing Horse Marlin (Article Written and Submitted by Pat Duran) There are so many ways we enjoy time with our horses gaited horse shows, pleasure and competitive trail rides, play days, working with cows, just hanging out, etc. After many clinics over the years learning basic foundation work, I was searching for something more a way for me to become a better horseperson and refine techniques. I began taking Cowboy Dressage workshops and was hooked. It s not necessarily exciting to watch or fast-paced, instead it s slow and precise. I love the philosophy of Cowboy Dressage; having the sensitivity and awareness to feel and receive messages sent by the horse. The timing and use of the release, relaxation, preparation and execution, and riding from the heart. November 13-16 was Cowboy Dressage (CD) finals at Rancho Murietta Equestrian Center. There were about 100 horses from several states. Three classes are offered for gaited horses: two walk/intermediate gait tests, and a walk/intermediate gait/lope test. Classes are tests comprised of 10 and 20 meter circles, straight lines, square stops, smooth gait transitions, and other maneuvers. CD is similar to trail obstacles, in that you are working as a team to execute a maneuver, the more finesse the better. Yes it is a competition, but everyone is friendly, helpful, and encouraging. You receive feedback from the judges on what you did well and what you can improve on. After four days and 12 classes, Marlin and I won buckles for High Point Gaited Division Amateur and Soft Feel Gaited Division award. And much to my amazement, we had the fourth overall highest points in the entire show! A gaited horse!! What an honor to show to that level of competition. Needless to say, I m thrilled. I hope that more gaited horse owners will participate, so that CD will continue to offer classes for us. Congratulations and Thank You Pat for sharing!! We re so Proud of our MFT horses and it s so exciting to see our horses and members succeed in such a Grand Fashion!! We re all SO VERY Proud!! 5
