50 th Birthday Celebration
50 th Birthday Celebration
50 th Birthday Celebration As we draw closer to the club s 50th birthday, I want to bring to your attention, the need to book as soon as possible. The 50th Birthday committee has organised a spectacular night for all. The committee has kept pricing to a minimum and all children under the age of 16 are free thanks to the generous support of Snooks Catering. There will be a magician and entertainment for all the kids from 6.00pm until 8.00pm after the kids have eaten, so the adults can enjoy the music and food and the company of other members during this time. Music from our own Tanina Osbourne and friends will be 5 decades of music which will celebrate 50 years of the SBSC. This Friday night Peter Bulka and myself will be at the club to cajole, bribe and harass those who have not booked already, to book on the night. It is imperative that we get early bookings to assist with final planning. The Club will be launching the 50th anniversary book which Tom McCulloch has painstakingly produced. This is Tom s speciality as the former curator of the MCC Museum, so we know it will be a high quality read, which will have been well researched. We are also running a raffle with some great prizes. Jan Woods will be around the club leading up to the Australia Day weekend to sell these tickets. First prize is a Peninsula winery tour for 12 in a limosine with a host which includes lunch and drinks. We will be keeping formalities to a minimum, so it will be a night worthy of a 50 year celebration. Well done to the following Minnow Nationals Blairgowrie Yacht Squardron 7 th 13 th January 2017 59 Registered Participants Jarvis Harrop (7) Misha Campbell (31) OTB News 15th January What fantastic conditions we had last Sunday! The clouds and cool breeze hung around long enough to deter the bogan ponies (the water police term for jet skis) but the sun came out on cue at the start of the first race. If you had control of the weather machine you might have dialled up more breeze with fewer holes but we managed to get both races in before sundown so who s complaining? The McCrae Marathon race was due to be last Saturday but was blown out.ross made up for it by setting a two-mile course for race one and it was great to shake the cobwebs out after the Christmas break. Paul and Leigh managed to upstage the A class boys for the most interesting boats on the water with two brand-new Wazps. Unfortunately, they are still running them in and couldn t go full-throttle but I m sure they ll be running rings around div 5 before too long. I ve guessed a yardstick of 90 at this stage as they have no official one yet. Div one saw Misha and Orlando in the minnows get a win each edging out Pat in the Bic who got a 2 nd and 3rd followed by Naomi. Div 2 saw a new contender bursting to the front with Andrew Dodd winning both races in the Lasar Radial with Bill and Fiona getting each getting a 2 nd and 3 rd. The Div 3 fleet was looking skinny but luckily Alan Riley was visiting from McCrae so Mono had someone to chase; again! Div 5 was closely fought across the line but with the super-crew Tori back on board the B14 won both races with Rob, Mark and Paul filling out the places. No results for the A class in race one so I can only assume they declined the marathon but they both completed race two with Dave coming a lazy six minutes in front of Stuart. This clearly isn t very polite but then again those machines look hard to slow down. Thanks to Ross, Natasha and Bianca for running the race and Woodsy and all the course boat drivers/helpers for their hard work on the day. There will be the presentation for the Sport Phillip Marine Series after sailing next Sunday and don t forget about the Foundation series on the 26 th of January. Ewan (Bluey)

You cannot find anywhere in Port Phillip Bay as ideal for yacht racing as our own home waters, so this is not an opportunity to miss. Log on to sailpeninsula.com.au and enter your yacht.
