MAHA Meeting October 17, 2009 MAHA Meeting Minutes October 17, 2009 Meeting held at Ryan s Restaurant Festus, MO Members present: Tony Reid, Greg Phillips, Harry Kemper, Kathryn and Klaire Lewis Minutes from meeting in August, 2009 were read and approved with a motion by Kathryn, seconded by Harry. Treasurer s report: Provided to members, account balance: $11,284.60 Show account balance: $617.22 Report approved. Slate of Officers discussed and approved: Tony Reid President Sandi Lewis Vice President Mindi Montgomery Treasurer Kathryn Lewis Secretary and Show Treasurer Kristi Herbst Youth Director Harry Kemper Director Greg Phillips Director Adam Leigh Show Manager and Web Site Pam Rodden Membership and Newsletter We discussed that our youth are getting more involved and we may have a youth leader in the club that would be interested in working with Kristi. Also, 3 MAHA youth members are Region XI Youth officers: Nikki Burns Director, Mitchell Kirby Vice Director, Klaire Lewis Secretary. The Annual banquet will be Saturday, January 16, 2010 at the Holiday Inn South County St. Louis. The deposit has been paid and Kristi Herbst is working on the details. We will have a general membership meeting starting at 5 PM with a youth meeting running concurrently. Kelly Pruetzel has volunteered to help Kristi with the planning and decorations. We will have our silent auction again and make as much room available for seating as possible. The Arabian Community Show was cancelled due to weather and will be re-scheduled in 2010. Tony and Greg will be working on this with the possibility of a date at the NEC being looked at. Sponsors will be offered to transfer to the class A show, remain with a re-scheduled community show or a refund. The Class A show dates have been changed by one week. The new dates are: March 5-7, 2010 at the NEC in Lake St. Louis, MO. The NEC asked us to switch our dates due to a scheduling conflict and they were able to give us an allowance for rearranging our dates as well as give us the upstairs banquet/viewing room free for the entire weekend. We will be sending out postcards with the show dates, information and web site/contact information. The premium book will be on the web site and available to mail out upon request only. The judges have been hired and are: Ken Price- Regular show, Ida Anderson S dressage judge, Bonnie Griest Dressage judge. The postcards will go out just after the first of the year. Show manager Adam Leigh is negotiating the host hotel arrangements. The secretary, steward and other officials have been hired. Discussion was held regarding the 2010 AHA Convention delegates and it was determined that we would wait until January 2010 at the next meeting to elect delegates/alternates due to the low attendance at this meeting. Region XI AHA November 2009 Delegates Meeting During Regional Caucus at the AHA Annual Convention Reno, Nevada Thursday, November 19, 2010 Dave Waggoner, Region XI Director welcomed everybody. Roll call-the Region XI Secretary passed out a sign in sheet for all to sign. Each person around the room introduced themselves. Treasurer s report-wanda Funk, Region XI Treasurer gave an unofficial report. Region XI AHA has $14842.99 in the checking account. The money market account has $15,945 in it. The CD totals $34108.85. Region XI AHA total assets are $64,897.62 Minutes of Summer Meeting-A motion was made by Wanda Funk to approve the minutes of the Summer Delegate Meeting. The motion was second by Glen True. Motion passed Announcements-Dave Waggoner read a letter from Angela O Neill about her dad being very sick and that is why she is not here. Leon Matthias was also not here because his mom is very sick also. Reports of Committees: Amateur-Sharon True reported that the main focus of this committee meeting was in adding select rider to national classes. These classes will be added at the Canadian Nationals in 2010 and at the US Nationals in 2011. They also have been added to the National/ Regional class list. Sharon True described the criteria for the select rider classes. Annual Convention-Ann Hammer reported that the Annual Convention in 2010 will be held in Orlando, Florida on November 17-21, 2010. There is Co-chairs in place from region 12. The hotel room rate will be $144 per night. There will be rate discounts on all the parks for us. There will be one luncheon and a Friday night tour. There is a 2011 bid from Vancouver, Canada Region 17 at the Hyatt regency. You will need passports to get to this convention. For the 2012 convention there is no bid but maybe Region 14 because of the Arab horse galleries-possibly Louisville, Kentucky. Bylaws, Nat l-dave Waggoner stated the only resolution discussed was concerning electronic voting by the board. It was approved in the original state. No response is an abstain vote not a no vote. Competition Advisory-Dave Waggoner introduced resolution 2 that allows competition advisory committee and AHA staff to combine or delete duplicate wording in the handbook. The committee also reviewed typos in the handbook and some resolutions that were sent to them to look at. Dressage-Marilyn Weber discussed a resolution that the Intro 10 and under tests A and B in line with other dressage in allowing these classes to receive points for Legion of Honor scores. Freestyle is on approved classes list. Marilyn Weber is working on Arabian Dressage Awards. It will be similar USDF level awards. Equine Stress-Marilyn Weber said the committee was meeting tomorrow. They were going to discuss the practice of deadening tails and more on rehoming horses. They also were going to discuss Europe boycotting horse meat from the United States because bute in system causes miscarriages. Eventing and Driving-Wanda Funk reported she is the new chair for this committee. Sport horse show commission asked them what other classes to include at Sport Horse Nationals. The committee put in timed obstacles. The committee asked to have a driving TD at nationals. The Commission said they would have one in 2011. The committee is revisiting the judges list and updating it. Nat l & Regional Classes-Wanda Funk reported the request from the driving committee was approved. There was a request by Canadian and Sport Horse Nationals to have Partbred and Purebred jumping. They will have 8 select rider classes approved for numbers on the Regional/National list. Professional Horsemen-Sharon True explained what resolutions were approved and disapproved that was sent to this committee. Public Relations Network-Jenn Bruns stated she doesn t think this Network exists anymore. There are no meetings and it is not on the schedule. Scholarship-Ann Hammer stated we got a thank you note from Jessica Dean who won the continuing education scholarship. PAGE 3

Show Commission/Reg Show-Dave Waggoner said the commission had a meeting a week ago to go over the show. There was a Profit of $4900. There were 360 horses and 800 class turns. The Commission went through the class list and there were 4 AOTR classes that we had 3 age splits on. The Commission reduced them back to 2 age splits and then added Select Rider AATR. Dave Waggoner went through the list of judges. Two that are tentatively hired is Chris Colbirth and Richard Petty. Sport Horse-Wanda Funk reported 2 extremely heated discussions concerning 3 resolutions. Resolution 9 was approved by the committee in amended version. The Splits in hand and under saddle resolution were withdrawn. The Committee thought wording was poor and needed more work. Allowing Open Hunter points to count for qualifications did not get approve by the committee because it is not the same specifications as Arabs. Working Western-Val Waggoner said the committee talked about what improved and not improved at Nationals. The Committee got into the deadening of the tail issue and felt like they wanted to leave this issue to the Equine Stress committee to address. She also discussed PVC pipe put in horse s mouth so the mouth gets tired and results in not gaping the horse mouth. Russ Derango elaborated on these issues. The working western committee would not make a stance. The committee is trying to get a ranch horse versatility class. Team penning is also on the class list for local shows. Youth-Val Waggoner said the Youth have a resolution concerning the national events the top 4 riders can be asked to swap horses. This originally started from the Youth. APHA-Jen Bruns reported on the Horseman s Distress Fund. The Academy classes were also mentioned. Correspondence Pledges and donations to Arabian horse galleries and to the Arabian Horse Foundations were discussed. The Arabian Horse Foundation is offering a Patrick Swayze memorial scholarship. It was discussed to use the $500 out of the advertising category we did not use that was budgeted. Russ Derango made a motion to put $250 to the Arabian Horse Gallery and $250 to the Patrick Swayze Memorial Scholarship. Marilyn Norton second. Discussion ensued. Motion passed. Introduction and Installation of New Officers-Dave Waggoner introduced the new Officers: Director-Angela O Neill Vice-Glen True Secretary-Sherry Amtower Treasurer-Wanda Funk Next Meeting Date and Location Glen True made a motion to have the next meeting on February 14, 2010. Gail Wiot second the motion. Motion passed. It will be held in Quincy, IL. Toni Dunker will look into getting a meeting room. The Show commission meeting will be Saturday afternoon February 13, 2010. This is a great all-purpose saddle. Great for on the flat or over fences. It is in very good condition and has been well cared for. This saddle is a great youth saddle.
