15th March 2019 https://oughtrington.eschools.co.uk Twitter @oughtringtoncps Pan Arts Festival We are Warrington concert On Thursday night, Year 4 Songbirds and a music ensemble group (Year 4-6) took part in the Pan Arts annual concert We are Warrington at the Parr Hall. Our performance included the nostalgic folk song originally known as The Erie Canal played by our talented musicians, a rap, contemporary dance and a vocal performance using the Bridgewater Canal as our inspiration. Songbirds also performed two other songs alongside the other six schools that were taking part. The children performed fantastically and should be really proud of themselves. It really was a night to remember! Thank you to Mrs Cooper for all the time and effort she put into this event, and to all the other staff who helped out. Comic Relief - Red Nose Day (written by School Council) School Council would like to thank all of the children for their entries into the Design a Red Nose Competition - we were inundated with responses! We were extremely impressed by the quality of the designs and the effort spent on creating them. Due to the volume of responses we have chosen four winners. These are: Thea RN, Beau 1HB, Sebastian 4F and Olivia 6O. We have created books of all of the entries, and these are located in the entrance foyer for you to have a look through. We have been selling Red Noses every day this week and were very surprised that by Thursday we had completely sold out! Thank you for your support in raising much needed funds for this fantastic charity. Hopefully you have all enjoyed wearing your red noses today in school. Thank you again for your ongoing support. Clubs Please note that next week is the last week of clubs run by school staff for this term unless you have been advised otherwise. Infant Art Club has already finished, so there will be no session of this club next week. Receptionist Role We are thrilled to announce that Miss Leonard has been successful in gaining the post of Receptionist/Clerical Assistant, and will be joining our office team in this role when Mrs Dixon leaves. Congratulations, Miss Leonard! As you know, Miss Leonard is currently our Maintenance Officer and her appointment to a new role means that we will have a Maintenance Officer vacancy to fill. This will advertise on Warrington Borough Council s website in due course.

Our School Sports Indoor Athletics County Finals 25 children from Year 6, competed in the indoor athletics level 3 county finals on Monday morning. Great team spirit was shown by all. Our girls obstacle and under/over teams won their races, and Charlie and Jake won their javelin events. After a fantastic team effort, we finished 6th in the county. This is an amazing achievement as 250 schools across the county entered! Forthcoming Events Gauntlet Birds of Prey On Monday, as part of their topic work on nocturnal animals, Year 2 are having a visit from Gauntlet Birds of Prey. They will be bringing a selection of birds to school and the children will have the opportunity to see owls and other birds of prey up close and to find out more about them. Tree Planting in Spud Wood As part of this half term s Value on Environmental Protection, we have been invited by the Friends of Spud Wood to help with the planting of new trees. This will take place next Thursday. KS2 Cross Country A team of Key Stage 2 runners will be competing in a cross country event at Lymm High School after school on Monday. We wish them luck. Gymnastics @ The Wire Gym Next week our gymnasts will be representing the school at an number of events. Year 6 s event will be on Wednesday, 20 th March; Year 1 & 2 s event will be on Thursday, 28 th March and Year 3 & 4 will be competing on Wednesday, 3 rd April. Football On Tuesday, 26 th March, teams from Year 1 and 2 will be taking part in a football competition at Priestley College. Year 3 will be competing at Orford Jubilee Hub on Tuesday, 26 th March. Finally, Year 6 will be taking part in a football competition at Finch Farm on Tuesday, 23rd April. A Thank you from Harry! Please accept this as a formal and very sincere thank you for supporting the fund raising efforts for Harry. Upon writing this, we have reached a staggering figure of 730,000 towards his treatment; our initial goal was 500,000 which we achieved within 5 weeks of beginning the campaign. The extra funds will support his treatment which in total will cost over 1m. At the beginning, we did not even believe that reaching 500,000 was possible, but with your help look what has happened! Update from Nina (Harry s Mum 9 th March) Today was another milestone for Harry. He had his last craniospinal radiotherapy treatment in Oxford. The last of 4 weeks have involved going there and back each day, one week Harry had chemotherapy as well, and other days Harry has had further tests and check-ups too. It s been full on, but he has really surprised me in how he has taken this part on, today especially. Harry was excited to be finishing radiotherapy and although some days throughout he has felt really rubbish/sick or tired, today he bounced in, had bloods taken, taken daily medicines, had the usual checks with a nurse, doctor and his consultant, an MRI scan and radiotherapy, and then he bounced out and we came home!

I am exhausted though and have a million things going on in my head, Russ and I have some big decisions to make and soon. It s incredibly daunting right now. We are truly thankful though that the financial part of this decision shouldn t be a concern thanks to all of you When I spoke with Harry s consultant today, we both said how hard it was to know what to do as we don t have experience to draw on, every child s situation (with Neuroblastoma) seems to be different, treatment paths change all the time as things are continued to be learned from trials across the world, so how do we know and compare what is best for our child? Even the immunotherapy that Harry had three years ago has now changed. We can only take the information we find and learn, listen to the professionals we speak to, follow our instincts and do what we believe is best. If only we didn t have to go through all of this, but we must give Harry the best chance in life that there is. He deserves that and so much more. He really has been through so much.
