World Championship 2017 International 5.5 metre Class 4 to 9 September 2017 Bénodet - France 1 RULES 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing. 1.2 The rules will govern the World Championship of the International 5.5 metre Class will apply 1.3 No national prescriptions will apply. 1.4 If there is a conflict between languages the English text will take precedence. 2 ADVERTISING 2.1 Advertising in accordance with World Sailing Advertising Code Regulation 20 and restricted as amended in the rules governing the World Championship of the International 5.5 metre Class. 3 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY 3.1 World sailing eligibility requirements under World sailing regulation 19 shall apply. 3.2 Only International 5.5m Class yachts which hold valid Certificates of Rating shall compete. 3.3 Eligible yachts may enter by completing the attached Entry Form and sending it, together with the required fee accompanied by a copy of the boat s rating certificate, no later than 1 st July 2017 Port de Plaisance, 29950 Bénodet, France. 6 MEASUREMENTS Yachts shall be available for measurement or boat check on the days listed below and for a random check on any day during the racing. Measurements done for any cup is valid for the World Championship» Measurement and inspection: Days and dates Saturday Sept 2 From 10h00 to 18h00 Sunday Sept 3 Each boat shall produce a valid measurement certificate. 7 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS Sailing instructions will be available at the race office from Friday 1 st Sept, 10h00. 8 VENUE: The sailing area is located in the Baie de Bénodet 9 THE COURSE The course will be a Windward - Leeward configuration with an offset mark with three up-wind legs and two down-wind legs to be sailed. (see Class Rules for details) 10 PENALTY SYSTEM 10.1 Racing rule 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One- Turn Penalty. 10.2 Decisions of the international jury will be final as provided in rule 70.5. 11 SCORING 11.1 The scoring system is as follows: Low Point System. 11.2. Four races are required to be completed to constitute a Championship. 11.3 When 6 or more races have been completed, a yacht s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score. 12 SUPPORTS BOAT Supports boat are not allowed to enter the racing area. 13 BERTHING Yachts shall be kept in their assigned places while they are in the harbour. 14 HAUL-OUT RESTRICTIONS All yachts shall be afloat before 17:00 on the day prior the first scheduled race day and shall not be hauled out during the series except with and according to the terms of prior written permission of the Jury. [DP] 15 DIVING EQUIPMENT AND PLASTIC POOLS Underwater breathing apparatus and plastic pools or their equivalent shall not be used around keelboats between the preparatory signal of the first race and the end of the regatta. [DP] 16 RADIO COMMUNICATION 16.1 Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones. [DP] 16.2 The RC will use VHF radio to communicate to the fleet, including the location of the starting area, countdown to the start, General Recalls and Postponements. Failure to make these broadcasts or failure to hear them shall not constitute grounds for granting redress. This change rule 62.1. 16.3 VHF channel 72 will be used to communicate with competitors. 17 PRIZES Prizes will be given as provided in the cups and championship rules. A special Vintage Prize will be given to the fastest classic boat that has no separate rudder. 18 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race.
