2018-19 NUGGETS NOTES NUGGETS CLINCH PLAYOFF BERTH The Denver Nuggets are officially back in the NBA postseason. After defeated the Boston Celtics on the road on 3/18 the Nuggets won their 47 th game of the season and were the second team in the Western Conference (Golden State) to secure a playoff spot. It has been a long time coming for postseason basketball in Denver, it marks the first time since the 2012-13 season the Nuggets have made the playoffs and the 25 th time in NBA franchise history they have made an appearance. TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS AWAY FROM HOME The Nuggets were able to start their four-game East Coast road trip off with a win, defeating the Boston Celtics 114-105 at TD Garden on 3/18. Denver used a balanced attack that saw all seven players score in double figures led by Nikola Jokic who finished with 21 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and two steals five in 36 minutes. The Nuggets now hold a road record of 17-16 on the season, surpassing the number of wins away from home by two from last season with 8 games on the road remaining. The 17 wins are five shy of tying the franchise record for most road wins in a season (22 set in 2006-07) and it makes this the latest in a season Denver has been.500 or above on the road since 2011-12 (16-15 on 4/21). PLAYOFF PUSH PAUL Once again in the month of March, the Nuggets were led by Paul Millsap, registering their 46 th win of the season in a game that came down the final shot beating Indiana 102-100 on 3/16. With the game tied at 100 with 27 seconds left, Millsap s number was called, and he answered, nailing a left handed floater in the lane with seven seconds left to help the Nuggets escape with the victory. It was the second game-winning basket for Denver in as many games making it the first time they have done that since 2006 (1/8 @ HOU and 1/10 vs. PHX). Millsap has been on a roll over his last four games, averaging 20.8 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists while shooting 63.3% from the field in 31.5 minutes leading the Nuggets to a 4-0 record. And if you look back farther than that, in his last 13 games, the veteran big man is averaging 16.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 2.2 assists in 31.1 minutes. He has scored in double figures in 11 of the last 13 games including four with 20+ and has had six double-doubles. His presence provides an obvious impact on both ends of the floor, the Nuggets are 42-16 in games when Millsap plays and just 5-6 in games he does not this season. 4 TH QUARTER LOCKDOWN Overall, the defense has made a huge jump this season for the Nuggets compared to last season s campaign and the results have shown. When the game has been on the line in the fourth quarter, the Nuggets have found a way to lock in and play their best defense when it matters most. In their 100-99 win over the Dallas Mavericks on 3/12, the Nuggets clamped down once again in the final quarter, holding Dallas to just 10 points. It was tied for the third fewest points allowed in any quarter in franchise history and the fewest points in a quarter Denver has allowed since 3/23/16 vs. PHI (10, 2Q). Amongst the NBA in fourth quarter defense, the Nuggets rank first in defensive rating, points allowed and opponent field goal percentage. The home crowd has helped Denver propel their record 30-6 at home (best home record in the Western Conference, second best in the NBA). The Nuggets have had two large winning streaks at Pepsi Center this season, they won nine straight from 1/17-2/26 and 12 straight from 11/15 to 1/13. They are currently 23-3 in their last 26 home games and own a record of 19-4 in Denver against Western Conference teams. ASSISTS FOR DAYS In their 133-107 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on 3/12 the Nuggets set a season-high in assists, finishing with 40 on 51 made field goals. It was the most assists in a game for Denver since 4/6/13 vs. HOU and just the 37 th time in franchise history they have eclipsed 40+ assists in a game. The Nuggets have had 30+ assists 24 times this season and their record is 52-13 under coach Malone s tenure when accomplishing this. The 24 games also rank ninth in Nuggets history for most games in a season with 30+ assists. Their record now stands at 47-22, ties the second-best record through 69 games in Nuggets NBA franchise history (2009-10- 47-22, 2012-13- 47-22) It had also been awhile since Denver sat atop the Western Conference this late in a season, as they held the top spot in the West on 2/4/19. It is the latest the Nuggets have been in first place of the conference since March 16, 1977, when they were 43-26. SHARING IS CARING Denver was red hot from the jump, whipping passes and using ball movement in route to a 133-107 blowout win over the Timberwolves on 3/12. The Nuggets were able to hold a lead most of the first half taking a 10-point lead into the break. That quickly changed as they blew the game wide open in the second half, they scored 36 points in the third quarter and 39 points in the fourth, totaling 75 in the second half marking a new season-high. The Nuggets also handed out a season-high 40 assists, their most since 4/6/13 vs. HOU (40) and have now won 29 of their last 35 games when handing out 30+ assists. Everyone was sharing the ball, as three separate players dished out at least six assists, resulting in the team shooting 60% from the field (51-85 FG s). It was just the 36th game in franchise history a Nuggets team shot 60% or better in a game from the field with it being the seventh such game since the start of the 2017-18 season. THE CENTURY MARK Denver took down the Dallas Mavericks 100-99 at home on 3/14 winning their second consecutive game at home. Paul Millsap led the way for the Nuggets posting a season-high 33 points, with eight rebounds and three assists 36 minutes. Denver s defense in the fourth quarter was stellar, holding the Mavericks to 10 points in route to the win. The Nuggets have held their opponent to fewer than 100 points in 15 of the last 48 games. The century mark has been a great indicator for success, Denver s opponent has scored less than 100 points 22 times this season, improving to 21-1 in those games. The Nuggets are tied for second (Indiana, Memphis, Miami and Utah) in the NBA in total games holding their opponents under 100 points (22). 2018-19 DENVER NUGGETS GAME NOTES 4

The Joker finished with six points and nine rebounds, playing 13 minutes in his All-Star debut. Coach Malone would leave with the last laugh, as Team LeBron overcame a 20-point second half deficit to defeat Team Giannis 178-164. COMEBACK FOR THE AGES The Nuggets found themselves down 25 points (70-45) in the third quarter against the Memphis Grizzlies on the road on 1/28.
