KC trails the all-time body of work by a 317-336 margin, including a 149-183 deficit in Cleveland, 76-109 here in The Pro. ALL GOOD THINGS MUST...--The three-hitter by Cleveland pitching last night snapped Kansas City s club record of 10 consecutive games with at least 10 hits and matched a season low for the Royals, who also had just three hits vs. the Mets on April 3...it was also the first time the Royals had been held to fewer than two runs in a game since losing a 5-0 decision at home to Atlanta on May 14...despite last night s slowed attack, since the May 22 loss in Chicago, the game in which both Mike Moustakas and Alex Gordon were lost to injury, the offense has hit at a.338 clip (131-for-388) with 69 runs scored (6.3 per game), with 27 doubles, two triples, nine home runs, a.487 slugging pct. and team OPS of.872...the Royals have also hit.339 (39-for-115) with runners in scoring position over this 11-game stretch in which Kansas City is still 8-3 SEEKING A SPLIT--Last night s loss brought Kansas City s six-series winning streak to a halt and the club will need victories in the remaining two games of this series to avoid its first series loss since a 1-3 stop in Yankee Stadium on May 9-12...KC entered this visit to Cleveland winning series at home against the Braves and Red Sox, on the road vs. the White Sox and Twins, and then back home with consecutive three-game sweeps of the White Sox and Rays. 1K FOR ESKY--Alcides Escobar s sixth inning floater to centerfield was the 1,000th hit of his big league career...the 29-year old shortstop picked up the first 169 hits of his career in a Milwaukee uniform and the last 831 have come since his December, 2010 arrival in Kansas City with Lorenzo Cain, Jake Odorizzi and Jeremy Jeffress in exchange for Zack Greinke and Yuniesky Betancourt...both Esky and Cain have won postseason accolades in the last two years, with Escobar named the American League Championship Series MVP for his.478 (11-for-23) work against the Blue Jays last October, just a year after Cain won the same award vs. the Orioles. WHITTING STREAK SNAPPED--Rookie utility man Whit Merrifield had his streak of at least one hit in his first 11 starts snapped with a walk and 0-for-3 here last night...his 11-start streak established a club record, three more games than Aaron Guiel (2002), Johnny Damon (1995) and Steve Hammond (1982) to open their respective careers with Kansas City. NEXT STOP, BALTIMORE--The Royals will head east following tomorrow s tilt for a three-game set against the Orioles at Camden Yards to pull the curtain on the season series between the two already...kansas City took two of three from the O s in Kauffman Stadium back in April...KC was 4-3 vs. the O s last year, going 1-2 in Baltimore...the Royals trail the all-time body of work by a 206-263 margin, including a 91-141 deficit in Baltimore, 37-61 in Oriole Park. West, when the club parlayed that triumph into its first World Series title...the 95 wins last year were the most by a KC squad since the 1980 Royals went 97-65...dating back to the start of the 2013 season, Kansas City has a 300-240 record for a.556 winning pct., the best mark in the American League, and fourth in the Majors (behind St. Louis, Pittsburgh and the Dodgers)... KC has seven more wins in that span than the second best A.L. club Baltimore (293). THE COMEBACK KIDS--In winning 11 games during the 2015 postseason, the Royals had to come from behind in eight of those victories, including an unprecedented seven comebacks from a multiple-run deficit...kc rallied from a one-run deficit in Game #2 of the World Series against the Mets, while coming back from two runs behind on three other occasions during the Fall Classic, capped by the two-run rally in the top of the ninth inning of the deciding Game #5, sending the game to extra innings with the Royals plating five runs in the 12th to seal the title...kansas City also rallied from a two-run deficit in the deciding game of the ALDS vs. the Astros to advance to the League Championship Series vs. Toronto...the Royals came from three runs back in Game #2 of both the ALDS vs. Houston and the ALCS vs. the Blue Jays...the biggest comeback of the fall matched the same scenario of the 2014 Wild Card game vs. the A s, as KC was down by four runs to Houston with six outs to go in game #4 at Minute Maid Park, but plated five in the top of the eighth and two more in the ninth to get to a deciding Game #5 in Kauffman Stadium. vs. Indians (2016) vs. Indians (career) On Road (career) Tomlin (career) Kluber (career) Player AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI Butera.286 7 2 2 3.167 84 14 2 7.196 403 79 9 40.250 4 1 0 1.000 6 0 0 0 Cain.364 22 8 0 0.269 201 54 2 17.282 1045 295 19 113.375 16 6 0 2.192 26 5 0 2 Cruz - - - - -.000 1 0 0 0.240 312 75 4 30 - - - - - - - - - - Cuthbert.429 14 6 1 2.333 18 6 1 2.245 53 13 2 4.000 2 0 0 0.000 1 0 0 0 Dyson.235 17 4 0 2.245 188 46 0 11.246 570 140 0 29.357 14 5 0 1.226 31 7 0 1 Escobar.182 22 4 0 0.269 331 89 2 31.258 1990 513 13 158.250 28 7 0 4.205 39 8 0 0 Fuentes.750 4 3 0 0.750 4 3 0 0.303 33 10 0 2 - - - - - - - - - - Hosmer.333 15 5 1 3.288 323 93 13 60.283 1558 441 46 203.227 22 5 2 4.256 39 10 3 12 Infante.125 8 1 0 0.281 385 108 7 53.278 2721 756 53 295.000 5 0 0 0.333 30 10 1 4 Merrifield.000 3 0 0 0.000 3 0 0 0.304 23 7 0 0 - - - - - - - - - - Morales.150 20 3 1 4.273 245 67 9 37.262 1693 443 68 244.125 8 1 0 0.167 18 3 0 1 Orlando.000 4 0 0 0.056 18 1 0 0.261 157 41 3 15 - - - - -.000 3 0 0 0 Perez.167 12 2 0 1.243 243 59 3 26.278 1185 330 41 154.647 17 11 1 6.174 23 4 0 2 Starting Pitchers Breakdown Total KC Avg.
