Racing to the 400 metres MAGICAL RUBY (C. Lindop), which continued to race greenly, was obliged to steady off the heels of KISSENFIRE (T. Pannell). Racing to the 400 metres JUST DISCREET (C. RACE 2 : DISTINCTIVE HOMES HANDICAP - 1050 metres (Cont d) Approaching the 300 metres PERFECT HOSTESS (NZ) (C. Lindop) became held up for a few strides when racing on the heels of BELLA LEAH (L. Hopwood) and to the inside of RIAHGRAND (H. McKechnie). H. McKechnie, the rider of RIAHGRAND, explained that after jumping on terms with the field she initially received a brush from PERFECT HOSTESS (NZ) (C. Lindop) to her inside and shortly thereafter was inconvenienced when BELLA LEAH (L. Hopwood) rolled in and was unable to maintain her position in the early stages. When questioned regarding her instructions and her position in the early part of the event, H. McKechnie stated she had been instructed to allow the gelding to settle of its own accord and to avoid getting into a speed battle with PERIDUKI (S. Westover) for the lead. She stated that in the circumstances she would have preferred to have raced in a position closer to the pace but was obliged to settle back of mid-field due to the interference suffered shortly after the start. Mr. D. Dodson, the Trainer of RIAHGRAND, confirmed the instructions provided to H. McKechnie. H. McKechnie and Mr. Dodson confirmed the instructions were similar to those provided for the gelding s previous start and that RIAHGRAND was allowed to settle and find its own position in running on that occasion. RIAHGRAND was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities. RACE 3 : ADELAIDE CASINO HANDICAP - 2043 metres MISS WITH ATTITUDE (C. Lindop) raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event. Inside the 1800 metres MOGGADEN (J. Maund) shifted in and away from OUR GOLDEN DREAM (USA) (M. Macdonald, the co-trainer of MISS WITH ATTITUDE, advised Stewards the mare would now be spelled. RACE 4 : SCHWEPPES TONIC HANDICAP - 1600 metres (Cont d) S. Cahill, the rider of OCSMEPOP, explained he had been given no specific instructions other than the stable would prefer him to attempt to race in a position to the outside of the field. He stated that given his inside barrier draw and the lack of pace in the early stages, he was unable to take up a position to the outside of the field and was obliged to race on pace behind the leader. He added that inside the 1200 metres he had considered his options to improve to the outside of YOU DEE CEE (S. Price) but was unable to do so due to the position of NEVZLIN (P. Gatt) to his outside. He further stated that shortly after entering the straight he was unable to improve into a tight run between MONTEGO BAY (C. Lever) and YOU DEE CEE and due to the position of NEVZLIN, was obliged to ride for luck for a short distance before having to alter course to the outside of YOU DEE CEE to obtain clear running. He added that after obtaining clear ground, the gelding did not respond in the manner he expected and appeared to dip for no apparent reason inside the 200 metres. S. Cahill stated, in his opinion, the gelding is better suited when racing outside other runners. Stewards noted S. Cahill s explanation. OCSMEPOP was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities. RACE 5 : BETFAIR HANDICAP - 1200 metres In the vicinity of the 1000 metres GOLDEN PENNY (L. Hopwood) raced in restricted room for a short distance when taken out by MY DEAR FRIEND (T. Pannell) onto the heels of CIENNA NOW (D. Tootell), which shifted in. T. Pannell was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground in future. Inside the 800 metres MY DEAR FRIEND (T. Pannell), which had improved onto the heels of CIENNA NOW (D. Tootell), clipping that filly s heels, shifted out abruptly under riding, contacting GOLDEN PENNY (L. Hopwood), taking that horse wider. T. Pannell was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground in future. SISTER SWANK (S. Westover) became held up for clear running near the entrance to the straight when racing on the heels of LADY DAVINCI (S. Price). OUR BELVOIR (M. Neilson), which laid out throughout the event, shifted out in the vicinity of the 200 metres and brushed with SISTER SWANK (S. Westover). M. Neilson, the rider of OUR BELVOIR, reported his mount laid out throughout the race. OUR BELVOIR was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities. Dyson) and was obliged to shift out. OUT OF WINGS (K. Dyson) over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event. BEAUTIFUL SOUL (L. RACE 6 : ALLAN SCOTT PARK MORPHETTVILLE HANDICAP - 1600 metres (Cont d) In the vicinity of the 500 metres AUDACITY (P. Gatt) clipped the heels of EXALTED PLEASURE (J. Stojakovic) becoming held up on that gelding s heels for a short distance. Over the concluding stages of the event the whip of P. Gatt, the rider of AUDACITY, was accidentally struck from his hand by T. Pannell, the rider of DIRTY ONA DRINK. S. Price, the rider of KOSCIUSZKO S SIDE, reported his mount laid in from the 600 metres and performed disappointingly. Mr. J. Smith, the Trainer of KOSCIUSZKO S SIDE, reported the gelding would now be spelled. S. Price, the rider of KOSCIUSZKO S SIDE, was questioned regarding his use of the whip prior to the 100 metres. S. RACE 7 : CLEAN SA HANDICAP - 1200 metres The start of this event was delayed approximately three minutes as a result of GOGOCANNY, which lost its near fore plate en route to the barriers, having to be re-shod on arrival at the barriers. GOGOCANNY was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race. SIVI SOKO (M. Neilson) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in and away from RUMOUR AND SCANDAL (P. Gatt) onto DISQUIET (C. Lever), which was tightened onto LOTTO MEO (J. Matthews), resulting in DISQUIET and LOTTO MEO being hampered for a number of strides. CHUNKY CUSTARD (J. Frew) knuckled shortly after the start. In the vicinity of the 1100 metres AVIONICS (N. Rose) shifted in under riding taking the running of SIVI SOKO (M. Neilson), which was obliged to check and shift in and away from that mare. As a consequence ROWDY ROCKER (L. Hopwood), which was following was obliged to check off the heels of SIVI SOKO, losing its position. N. Rose pleaded guilty to a charge of Careless Riding under ARR.137(a) in that he shifted ground when insufficiently clear and was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Saturday, 11 June and to conclude at midnight on Thursday, 23 June 2011; a period of six (6) meetings. M. Neilson, the rider of SIVI SOKO, reported his mount felt short in front during the event. SIVI SOKO was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities. P. Gatt, the rider of RUMOUR AND SCANDAL, reported that whilst the gelding had travelled well in the early stages of the event, when placed under pressure it failed to respond and he was of the opinion the gelding appeared not to be genuine in its action. RUMOUR AND SCANDAL was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities. Mr. A. Spitzer, representing Mr. J. Thompson, the Trainer of RUMOUR AND SCANDAL, undertook to report any findings on the gelding s return to the stable. T:\Stewards\STEWARDS REPORTS\2011 Stewards Reports\MORP040611.doc Page 4 of 6
