The Praise is for Allah azwj Lord azwj of the Worlds, and Blessing be upon our Chief Muhammad saww and his saww Purified Progeny asws, and greetings with abundant greetings. ب اب ف ض ل الد ع اء و ال ح ث ع ل ي ه Chapter 1 The merits of the supplication and the urging upon it ع ز و ج ل ع ل ي ب ن إ ب ر اه يم ع ن أ ب يه ع ن ح م اد ب ن ع يس ى ع ن ح ر يز ع ن ز ر ار ة ع ن أ ب ي ج ع ف ر ( عليه السالم ) ق ال إ ن للا ي ق ول إ ن ال ذ ين ي س ت ك ب ر ون ع ن ع باد ت ي س ي د خ ل ون ج ه ن م داخ ر ين ق ال ه و الد ع اء و أ ف ض ل ال ع ب اد ة الد ع اء ق ل إ ن إ ب راه يم و ا ح ل يم ق ال ا و ا ه و الد ع اء. Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Hammad Bin Isa, from Hareyz, from Zurara, (It has been narrated) from Abu Ja far asws having said: Allah azwj Mighty and Majestic is Saying [40:60] surely those who are too proud to worship Me shall soon enter Hell abased. It (worship) is the supplication, and the most superior of the (acts of) worship, is the supplication. I said, [9:114] most surely Ibrahim was very tender-hearted, forbearing. He asws said: His tender-heartedness, it is (a reference to) the supplication. 1 م ح م د ب ن ي ح ي ى ع ن أ ح م د ب ن م ح م د ع ن م ح م د ب ن إ س م اع يل و اب ن م ح ب وب ج م يعا ع ن ح ن ان ب ن س د ير ع ن أ ب يه ق ال ق ل ب ي ج ع ف ر ( عليه السالم ) أ ي ال ع ب اد ة أ ف ض ل ف ق ال م ا م ن ش ي ء أ ف ض ل ع ن د للا ع ز و ج ل م ن أ ن ي س ئ ل و ي ط ل ب م م ا ع ن د و م ا أ ح د أ ب غ ض إ ل ى للا ع ز و ج ل م م ن ي س ت ك ب ر ع ن ع ب اد ت ه و ل ي س أ ل م ا ع ن د. Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Muhammad Bin Ismail and Ibn Mahboub, altogether from Hanan Bin Sadeyr, from his father who said, I said to Abu Ja far asws, Which of the (acts of) worship is most superior? So he asws said: There is none from the things more superior in the Presence of Allah azwj Mighty and Majestic that He azwj should be asked and sought from for what is with Him azwj. There is no one more Hateful to Allah azwj Mighty and Majestic than the one who is too arrogant from worshipping Him azwj and he does not ask for what is with Him azwj. 2 أ ب و ع ل ي ا ش ع ر ي ع ن م ح م د ب ن ع ب د ال ج ب ار ع ن ص ف و ان ع ن م ي س ر ب ن ع ب د ال ع ز يز ع ن أ ب ي ع ب د للا ( عليه السالم ) ق ا ل ق ال ل ي ي ا م ي س ر اد ع و ل ت ق ل إ ن ا م ر ق د ف ر غ م ن ه إ ن ع ن د للا ع ز و ج ل م ن ز ل ة ل ت ن ال إ ل ب م س أ ل ة و ل و أ ن ع ب دا س د ف ا و ل م ي س أ ل ل م ي ع ط ش ي ئا ف س ل ت ع ط ي ا م ي س ر إ ن ه ل ي س م ن ب اب ي ق ر ع إ ل ي وش ك أ ن ي ف ت ح ل ص اح ب ه. Abu Ali Al Ashary, from Muhammad Bin Abdul Jabbar, from Safwan, from Muyassir Bin Abdul Aziz, (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah asws, said, He asws said to me: O Muyassir! Supplicate and do not say that the matter has already been decided. Given a thing. Therefore ask, you will be Given. O Muyassir! There is no door which is knocked upon except it is imminent that it would be opened for its comer. 3 ح م ي د ب ن ز ي اد ع ن ال خ ش اب ع ن اب ن ب ق اح ع ن م ع اذ ع ن ع م ر و ب ن ج م ي ع ع ن أ ب ي ع ب د للا ( عليه السالم ) ق ال م ن ل م ي س أ ل للا ع ز و ج ل م ن ف ض ل ه ف ق د اف ت ق ر. Humeyd Bin Ziyad, from Al Khashhab, from Ibn Baqah, from Muaz, from Amro Bin Jumie, (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah asws having said: The one who does not ask Allah azwj Mighty and Majestic of His azwj Grace, so he would become poor. 4 ع ل ي ب ن إ ب ر اه يم ع ن أ ب يه ع ن ح م اد ب ن ع يس ى ع ن أ ب ي ع ب د للا ( عليه السالم ) ق ال س م ع ت ه ي ق ول اد ع و ل ت ق ل ق د ف ر غ م ن ع ز و ج ل ي ق ول إ ن ال ذ ين ي س ت ك ب ر ون ع ن ع باد ت ي س ي د خ ل ون ج ه ن م داخ ر ين و ق ا ل ا م ر ف إ ن الد ع اء ه و ال ع ب اد ة إ ن للا اد ع ون ي أ س ت ج ب ل ك م. Allah azwj Mighty and Majestic is Saying [40:60] surely those who are too proud to worship Me shall soon enter Hell abased. And Said [40:60] Call upon Me, I will Answer you. 5 أ ب و ع ل ي ا ش ع ر ي ع ن م ح م د ب ن ع ب د ال ج ب ار ع ن اب ن أ ب ي ن ج ر ان ع ن س ي ف الت م ار ق ال س م ع أ ب ا ع ب د للا ( عليه السالم ) ي ق ول ع ل ي ك م ب الد ع اء ف إ ن ك م ل ت ق ر ب ون ب م ث ل ه و ل ت ت ر ك وا ص غ ير ة ل ص غ ر ه ا أ ن ت د ع وا ب ه ا إ ن ص اح ب الص غ ار ه و ص اح ب ال ك ب ار. Abu Ali Al Ashary, from Muhammad Bin Abdul Jabbar, from Ibn Abu Najran, from Sayf Al Tammar who said, I heard Abu Abdullah asws saying: It is upon you to supplicate as you will not get closer (to Allah azwj ) with anything similar to it, nor should you neglect supplicating for a small (thing) due to its smallness. He azwj is the Owner of the small as well as the big (things). 6 ع د ة م ن أ ص ح اب ن ا ع ن أ ح م د ب ن م ح م د ب ن ع يس ى ع ن ال ح س ي ن ب ن س ع يد ع ن الن ض ر ب ن س و ي د ع ن ال ق اس م ب ن س ل ي م ا ن ع ن ع ب ي د ب ن ز ر ار ة ع ن أ ب يه ع ن ر ج ل ق ال ق ال أ ب و ع ب د للا ( عليه السالم ) الد ع اء ه و ال ع ب اد ة ال ت ي ق ال للا ع ز و ج ل إ ن ال ذ ي ن ع ز و ج ل و ل ت ق ل إ ن ا م ر ق د ف ر غ م ن ه ي س ت ك ب ر ون ع ن ع باد ت ي ا ل ي ة اد ع للا A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Isa, from Al Husayn Bin Saeed, from Al Nazar Bin Suweyd, from Al Qasim Bin Suleyman, from Ubeyd Bin Zurara, from his father, from a man who said, Abu Abdullah asws said: The supplication, it is the worship which Allah azwj Mighty and Majestic Spoke of [40:60] surely those who are too proud to worship Me the Verse. Zurara (the narrator) said, But rather, it means that your belief in the Ordainment and the Pre-determination whould not prevent you that you should speak with the supplication and strive in his, or just as he asws said. 7 ع د ة م ن أ ص ح اب ن ا ع ن س ه ل ب ن ز ي اد ع ن ج ع ف ر ب ن م ح م د ا ش ع ر ي ع ن اب ن ال ق د اح ع ن أ ب ي ع ب د للا ( عليه السالم ) ق ال ق ا ل أ م ير ال م ؤ م ن ين ( عليه السالم ) أ ح ب ا ع م ال إ ل ى للا ع ز و ج ل ف ي ا ر ض الد ع اء و أ ف ض ل ال ع ب اد ة ال ع ف اف ق ال و ك ا ن أ م ير ال م ؤ م ن ين ( عليه السالم ) ر ج ال د ع اء. A number of our companions, from Sahl Bin Ziyad, from Ja far Bin Muhammad Al Ashary, from Ibn Al Qaddah, (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah asws having said: Amir Al-Momineen asws said: The most Beloved of the deeds to Allah azwj Mighty and Majestic in the earth, is the supplication, and the most superior of the (acts of) worship is the chastity. He asws said: And Amir Al-Momineen asws was a (frequently) supplicating person. 8 Chapter 2 The supplication is a weapon of the Momin ب اب أ ن الد ع اء س ال ح ال م ؤ م ن ع د ة م ن أ ص ح اب ن ا ع ن أ ح م د ب ن م ح م د ب ن خ ال د ع ن أ ب يه ع ن ف ض ال ة ب ن أ ي وب ع ن الس ك ون ي ع ن أ ب ي ع ب د للا ( عليه السالم ) ق ال ق ال ر س ول للا ( صلى للا عليه وآله ) الد ع اء س ال ح ال م ؤ م ن و ع م ود الد ين و ن ور الس م او ا و ا ر ض. A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Khalid, from his father, from Fazalat Bin Ayoub, from Al Sakuny, (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah asws having said: Rasool-Allah saww said: The supplication is a weapon of the Momin and a pillar of the Religion, and a Light of the skies and the earth. 9 س ن اد ق ال ق ال أ م ير ال م ؤ م ن ين ( عليه السالم ) الد ع اء م ف ات يح الن ج اح و م ق ال يد ال ف ال ح و خ ي ر الد ع اء م ا ص د ر ع ن و ب ه ذ ا ا ل خ ال ص ي ك ون ال خ ال ص ف إ ذ ا اش ت د ال ف ز ع ف إ ل ى للا ال م ف ز ع. ص د ر ن ق ي و ق ل ب ت ق ي و ف ي ال م ن اج اة س ب ب الن ج اة و ب ا ل And by this chain, said: The supplications are the keys to achievement and collars of the success, and the best of the supplication is what is generated by a clean chest and a fearful heart. 10 He asws و ب إ س ن اد ق ال ق ال الن ب ي ( صلى للا عليه وآله ) أ ل أ د ل ك م ع ل ى س ال ح ي ن ج يك م م ن أ ع د ائ ك م و ي د ر أ ر ز اق ك م ق ال وا ب ل ى ق ا ل ت د ع ون ر ب ك م ب الل ي ل و الن ه ار ف إ ن س ال ح ال م ؤ م ن الد ع اء. He asws said: The Prophet saww said: Indeed! Shall I saww point you all to a weapon to save you from your enemies and generate your sustenance? So they said, Yes. So it was said, What is a weapon of the Prophets as? I said, Yes. Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Isa, from Ibn Mahboub, from Abu Wallad who said, Abu Al-Hassan Musa asws said: Upon you is with the supplication, for the supplicating to Allah azwj and seeking to Allah azwj repels the affliction and although it has been Predetermined and there does not remain except for its coming to pass. whenever one of you supplicates, so he should not return his hand until he has wiped it upon his face and his head. 27 Chapter 6 Inspiration for the supplication ب اب إ ل ه ام الد ع اء ع ل ي ب ن إ ب ر اه يم ع ن أ ب يه ع ن اب ن أ ب ي ع م ي ر ع ن ه ش ام ب ن س ال م ق ال ق ال أ ب و ع ب د للا ( ال ب ال ء م ن ق ص ر ق ل ن ا ل ق ال إ ذ ا أ ل ه م أ ح د ك م الد ع اء ع ن د ال ب ال ء ف اع ل م وا أ ن ال ب ال ء ق ص ير. عليه السالم ) ه ل ت ع ر ف ون ط و ل Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abu Umeyr, from Hisham Bin Salim who said, Abu Abdullah asws said: Are you recognising the lengthening of the affliction from its shortening? Muhamad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Isa, from Ibn Mahboub, from Abu Wallad who said, Abu Al-Hassan Musa asws said: There is none from an affliction descending upon a Momin servant, so Allah azwj Mighty and Majestic Inspires him for the supplication, except that, that affliction would be Removed imminently; and there is none from an affliction descending upon a Momin servant, so he withholds from the supplication, except that, that affliction would be prolonged. Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Hammad Bin Isa, from Ibn Sinan, from Anbasa, (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah asws : The one who is fearful from an affliction hitting him, so he should precede regarding it with the supplication. Allah azwj Mighty and Majestic would not Show him the affliction, ever! 31 ع د ة م ن أ ص ح اب ن ا ع ن أ ح م د ب ن م ح م د ب ن خ ال د ع ن إ س م اع يل ب ن م ه ر ان ع ن م ن ص ور ب ن ي ون س ع ن ه ار ون ب ن خ ار ج ة ع ن أ ب ي ع ب د للا ( عليه السالم ) ق ال إ ن الد ع اء ف ي الر خ اء ي س ت خ ر ج ال ح و ائ ج ف ي ال ب ال ء. He asws said: So the clouds dispersed, and they said, O Rasool-Allah saww! You saww supplicated for the rain for us but we were not quenched, then you saww supplicated for the rain for us, so we were quenched. Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Isa, from Abu Hammam Ismail Bin Hammam, (It has been narrated) from Abu Al-Hassan Al-Reza asws having said: One secretive supplication of the servant equates to seventy supplications publicly. و ف ي ر و اي ة أ خ ر ى د ع و ة ت خ ف يه ا أ ف ض ل ع ن د للا م ن س ب ع ين د ع و ة ت ظ ه ر ه ا. He (the narrator) said, And Muhammad Bin Ismail reported it from Abu Ismail Al Sarraj, from Muhammad Bin Abu Hamza, from Saeed smilar to it. 57 ع ن ه ع ن ال ج ام ور ان ي ع ن ال ح س ن ب ن ع ل ي ب ن أ ب ي ح م ز ة ع ن ص ن د ل ع ن أ ب ي الص ب اح ال ك ن ان ي ع ن أ ب ي ج ع ف ر ( عليه السالم ع ز و ج ل ي ح ب م ن ع ب اد ال م ؤ م ن ين ك ل ع ب د د ع اء ف ع ل ي ك م ب الد ع اء ف ي الس ح ر إ ل ى ط ل وع الش م س ف إ ن ه ا س اع ة ) ق ال إ ن للا ت ف ت ح ف يه ا أ ب و اب الس م اء و ت ق س م ف يه ا ا ر ز اق و ت ق ض ى ف يه ا ال ح و ائ ج ال ع ظ ام. From him, from Al Jamourany, from Al Hassan Bin Ali Bin Abu Hamza, from Sandal, from Abu Al Sabbah, (It has been narrated) from Abu Ja far asws having said: Allah azwj Mighty and Majestic Loves from the Momineen of His azwj servant, every servant who supplicates. I heard Abu Abdullah asws saying: During the night there is a particular time in which no Muslim servant would be harmonious with it, then prays Salāt and supplicates to Allah azwj Mighty and Majestic therein except that it would be Answered for him during every night. I said, May Allah azwj Keep you asws well! And which time it is from the night? He asws said: When half the night passes by, and it is the first sixth from the first half. 59 ب اب الر غ ب ة و الر ه ب ة و الت ض ر ع و الت ب ت ل و ا ل ب ت ه ال و ا ل س ت ع اذ ة و ال م س أ ل ة Chapter 14 The desire, and the awe, and the beseeching, and the devotion, and the invocation, and the seeking of Refuge, and the asking ع د ة م ن أ ص ح اب ن ا ع ن أ ح م د ب ن م ح م د ب ن خ ال د ع ن إ س م اع يل ب ن م ه ر ان ع ن س ي ف ب ن ع م ير ة ع ن أ ب ي إ س ح اق ع ن أ ب ي ع ب د للا ( عليه السالم ) ق ال الر غ ب ة أ ن ت س ت ق ب ل ب ب ط ن ك ف ي ك إ ل ى الس م اء و الر ه ب ة أ ن ت ج ع ل ظ ه ر ك ف ي ك إ ل ى الس م ا ء A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Khalid, from Ismail Bin Mihran, from Sayf Bin Ameyra, from Abu Is haq, (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah asws having said: The desire ( (الر غ ب ة is that you should face with the belly (front) of your palms towards the sky; and the awe sky. is that you make the back of your palms towards the (الر ه ب ة ( و ق و ل ه و ت ب ت ل إ ل ي ه ت ب ت يال ق ال الد ع اء ب إ ص ب ع و اح د ة ت ش ير ب ه ا و الت ض ر ع ت ش ير ب إ ص ب ع ي ك و ت ح ر ك ه م ا و ا ل ب ت ه ال ر ف ع ال ي د ي ن و ت م د ه م ا و ذ ل ك ع ن د الد م ع ة ث م اد ع. And (about) His azwj Words [73:8] and devote yourself to Him with your devotion, he asws said: The supplication with one finger gesturing with it; and the beseeching is gesturing with your index finger and moving it around; and the invocation (الت ض ر ع ( is raising of the hands and extending them, and that is during the tears, then (ا ل ب ت ه ال ( supplicating. 60 ع ل ي ب ن إ ب ر اه يم ع ن أ ب يه ع ن اب ن أ ب ي ع م ي ر ع ن أ ب ي أ ي وب ع ن م ح م د ب ن م س ل م ق ال س أ ل أ ب ا ج ع ف ر ( عليه السالم ) ع ن ق و ل للا ع ز و ج ل ف م ا اس ت كان وا ل ر ب ه م و ما ي ت ض ر ع ون ف ق ال ا ل س ت ك ان ة ه و ال خ ض وع و الت ض ر ع ه و ر ف ع ال ي د ي ن و الت ض ر ع ب ه م ا. Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abu Umeyr, from Abu Ayoub, from Muhammad Bin Muslim who said, I asked Abu Ja far asws about the Words of Allah azwj Mighty and Majestic [23:76] but they were not submissive to their Lord, nor were they humbling themselves. Muhammad BinYahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Isa, from Muhammad Bin Khalid and Al Husayn Bin Saeed, altogether from Al Nazar Bin Suweyd, from Yahya Al Halby, from Abu Khalid, from Marwak Baya a Al Lulu, from the one who mentioned it, (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah asws, said, The desire ( (الر غ ب ة was mentioned and he asws displayed the front of the two palms towards the sky; (and said): The awe sky; is like this, and he asws make the back of his asws palm to be towards the (الر ه ب ة ( (and said): And the beseeching ( (الت ض ر ع is like this, and he asws moved his asws index finger to the right and the left; (and said): The devotion ( (الت ب ت ل is like this, and he asws raised his asws finger once and dropped it once; (and said): The invocation ( ب ت ه ال (ا ل is like this, and he asws extended his asws hand and turned his asws face towards the Qiblah, (and said): And there is no invocation until the tears flow. 62 ع د ة م ن أ ص ح اب ن ا ع ن أ ح م د ب ن م ح م د ب ن خ ال د ع ن أ ب يه ع ن ف ض ال ة ع ن ال ع ال ء ع ن م ح م د ب ن مس ل م ق ال س م ع أ ب ا ع ب د للا ( عليه السالم ) ي ق ول م ر ب ي ر ج ل و أ ن ا أ د ع و ف ي ص ال ت ي ب ي س ار ي ف ق ال ي ا أ ب ا ع ب د للا ب ي م ين ك ف ق ل ي ا ع ب د للا إ ن ل ل ت ب ار ك و ت ع ال ى ح قا ع ل ى ه ذ ك ح ق ه ع ل ى ه ذ A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Khalid, from his father, from Fazalat, from Al A ala, from Muhammad Bin Muslim who said, I heard Abu Abdullah asws saying: A man passed by me asws and I asws was supplicating in my asws Salāt with my asws left hand, so he said, O Abu Abdullah asws! (Do it) with your asws right hand. So I asws said: O servant of Allah azwj! For Allah azwj Blessed and High there is a Right upon this like His azwj Right upon this. و ق ال الر غ ب ة ت ب س ط ي د ي ك و ت ظ ه ر ب اط ن ه م ا و الر ه ب ة ت ب س ط ي د ي ك و ت ظ ه ر ظ ه ر ه م ا و الت ض ر ع ت ح ر ك الس ب اب ة ال ي م ن ى ي م ينا و ش م ا ل و الت ب ت ل ت ح ر ك الس ب اب ة ال ي س ر ى ت ر ف ع ه ا ف ي الس م اء ر س ال و ت ض ع ه ا و ا ل ب ت ه ال ت ب س ط ي د ي ك و ذ ر اع ي ك إ ل ى الس م اء و ا ل ب ت ه ال ح ين ت ر ى أ س ب اب ال ب ك اء. And he asws said: The desire ( (الر غ ب ة is that you extend your hand and display its front parts; and the awe ( الر ه ب ة ) is that you extend your hand and displays its back parts; and the beseeching ( (الت ض ر ع is that you move the right index finger to the right and left; and the devotion ( (الت ب ت ل is that you move the left index finger raising it moderately and dropping it; and the invoking ( ب ت ه ال (ا ل is that you extend your hand and your forearm towards the sky; and the invoking is where you see the causes for the wailing. 63 ع ع ن ه ع ن أ ب يه أ و غ ي ر ع ن ه ار ون ب ن خ ار ج ة ع ن أ ب ي ب ص ير ع ن أ ب ي ع ب د للا ( عليه السالم ) ق ال س أ ل ت ه ع ن الد ع اء و ر ف ال ي د ي ن ف ق ال ع ل ى أ ر ب ع ة أ و ج ه أ م ا الت ع و ذ ف ت س ت ق ب ل ال ق ب ل ة ب ب اط ن ك ف ي ك و أ م ا الد ع اء ف ي الر ز ق ف ت ب س ط ك ف ي ك و ت ف ض ي ب ب اط ن ه م ا إ ل ى الس م اء و أ م ا الت ب ت ل ف إ يم اء ب إ ص ب ع ك الس ب اب ة و أ م ا ا ل ب ت ه ال ف ر ف ع ي د ي ك ت ج او ز ب ه م ا ر أ س ك و د ع اء الت ض ر ع أ ن ت ح ر ك إ ص ب ع ك الس ب اب ة م م ا ي ل ي و ج ه ك و ه و د ع اء ال خ يف ة.
