1 EWA Selection Criteria for RISING STARS DEVELOPMENT SQUAD SELECTION CRITERIA Introduction The purpose of Equestrian Western Australia s (EWA) High Performance Pathway is to assist talented combinations to further their equestrian development with the view to being selected onto State and Australian National Squads. All squads are based on General and Competition criteria as listed below. In selecting and assessing potential squad members, the WA State Selectors will source information from and consult with a range of suitable personnel with the appropriate expertise and knowledge. Squads for the following year are selected based upon results from the preceding six to twelve months, as reviewed by the Selection Panel. Combinations may be asked to submit an application to the EWA High Performance Officer (HPO) to assist Selectors in their choices. All eligible WA riders will be reviewed by the State Selection Panel with successful applicants notified via email shortly after. Squads are reviewed once a year. Should a combination be considered for selection, they must then return a signed Athlete Agreement & Code of Conduct by the stated date to the EWA HPO. Current Squad riders will also be subjected to biannual performance reviews, and are not guaranteed a squad position if they do not meet criteria. Combinations travelling Interstate or Overseas for the purpose of training and/or competition will be commended for their efforts, and should they continue to represent WA at the standards required, will remain listed to the Squad. In such cases, travelling squad members must continue to correspond with the EWA High Performance Officer as per guidelines in their Athlete Agreements.

2 EWA General Squad Criteria Combinations are obliged to meet the following for inclusion on a EWA Rising Stars Development Squad: Riders needs to be a current competitive member of EWA and their horse registered with EA and micro chipped (up to the current year the rider turns 21yrs), and a current Performance card where required. All Performances must have been ridden at EWA Affiliated Events and not at PCAWA events Combinations should have the enthusiasm to receive guidance and show aspiration and potential talent for future selection on to the Equestrian Western Australia Rising Stars Development Program. Athletes will need to sign an Athlete Agreement & Code of Conduct before inclusion on to the EWA Rising Stars Development Squad. Horse and rider must be sound and fit to compete. Should the selected combination become unable to continue training or competition for any reason, they have the responsibility to notify the EWA High Performance Officer in writing as soon as the incident occurs. Riders are expected to keep informed on Squad related information by checking their emails, and face book page. Combinations are invited to attend squad training clinics and workshops on their squad nominated horse. 3 x Squad Clinics must be attended for 2019. Riders are strongly encouraged to attend the EWA Rising Stars Development Squad Clinics and Member Education Seminars. Should they be unable to attend, this needs to be communicated to the EWA High Performance and Athlete Development Officer in writing at the earliest indication. In order to create a pathway from Interschool Programs to State and National Squad Programs, the EWA Rising Stars Development Squad Selection Criteria should follow the same structure of that at State High Performance level with its own cut off point.
