CRAWLEY AND DISTRICT MODEL AIRCRAFT CLUB TURBULATOR September 2017. CADMAC was founded in 1960, and is affiliated to the British Model Flying Association, which is the governing body for all aspects of model flying in Great Britain. The Turbulator newsletter has been produced since 1965, relying on regular reports and contributions from Club members. The Club website is at www.cadmac.org.uk. Gary Oulds and Terry Knight are happy with the results of a recent Ashdown contest.

Freeflight. At a recent National level contest Gary and Terry reached the fly-offs on Sunday. Gary made 2:26 in Classic Rubber/Power and Terry scored 2:35 in Classic Glider. Gary, Robin?? and Alex Cameron also put in a good performance in team glider. They now have to wait a week or so, to see how we did nationally when the results are published. Mind the lines. The control line mob have been mowing and flying at the Grattons and I joined them on a couple of days. Some good stunt flying was seen by Dick Stepney and Ken Taylor with Kim Jones showing how it is done with a elderly model. Kim Jones Flite Streak which flew well despite not having a fin. Tony was trying to sort out two fast wings with even faster engines he wa trying to get the settings correct but it s a challenge.

Ken Taylor with a 60 s Jaguar combat model, the engine is a 1961 PAW.19D single ball race goes very well. Holy Trinity. The season has finished at this field, it was not a very successful one due to the weather and several regular flyers missing. The freeflight results were as follows:- Holy Trinity Summer Competitions 2017 Results from Alex Cameron Catapult / Hand Launch Glider 1 Ken Taylor 33 32 38 36 40 179 2 Alex Cameron 31 13 33 39 40 156 3 Tom Goodwin 29 27 27 29 32 144 4 Kim Jones 28 16 24 16 20 104 5 Bob Taylor 15 11 16 11 20 73 Ken Taylor wins for the 2nd year in a row, although fast improving Tom Goodwin may put an end to that run soon!

Rubber Scale Duration 1 Ken Taylor FW190D 32 27 26 85 x 1.5 127.5 2 Alex Cameron Pilatus Porter 35 37 38 110 3 Ken Taylor Aeronca Champion 38 33 32 103 4 Jack Darby Moth Minor 20 24 23 67 x 1.5 100.5 4 Alex Cameron Pete s Bebe Jodel 27 13 27 67 x 1.5 100.5 6 Kim Jones Westland Widgeon 25 24 19 68 The Scale contest was again a duration only event, ie no judging. Low-wing and biplanes received a flight factor multiplication of 1.5, which as the results show, gives them a more equal parity with the high-wingers. The contest was again run through July and August. Congratulation to Ken Taylor, he got his FW190D flying really well, improving his score from last year with the same model by 34 seconds. I flew my Dad s Jodel but couldn't duplicate his trimming skills! Discus Launch Glider 1 Andy Appleby 2:53, 2:17, 2:13, 1:57, 1:46, 1:34, 1:27, 1:32, 1:25, 1:26 18.30 2 Alex Cameron 2:07, 1:46, 1:28, 1:25, 1:24, 1:23, 1:23, 1:20, 1:20, 1:18 14.54 The Discus Launch Glider competition runs June to end of September at Holy Trinity. During that time the best 10 flights are counted for the total. There is no limit to the number of flights made. Timing can be done by the flyer, using the timing function on the transmitter. Andy flew two models, the Blaster 3, a 1.5m span proper competition model, but made his best scores with a Whippet, a small foam 24 inch span toy glider. Just goes to show! I flew my Elf, even managed to work some lift to get over 2 minutes. Usually I seem to fly straight out of it! Andy s average time was 1:51 over the 10 flights, whilst mine was 1:29.60 inch Electric 1 Andy Appleby 18m:48s Bungee Launch Glider 1 Andy Appleby 1:54, 1:46, 1:59, 2:10, 2:14 Best 5 total = 10m 3s.

BBQ 2017. This event was blessed with fine weather, although a little windy. The excellent refreshments were provided by Dick Stepney and his wife, burgers and hot dogs were plentiful although I was a bit miffed as I missed out on the cakes! Some spectacular RC flying took place, while the control line and free-flight flyers flew to the north of the flight line.
