THE HARRIER (DECEMBER 2012 NEWSLETTER) Jayne, Katy, Cleo and Sara relax prior to their race at Exeter Cross Country It s been a quiet time on the race front for a change. However, our athletes who did compete see to have chosen some difficult events! The Cornish Marathon was hard going and Neil Holmes was the first Harrier home. Whilst at the Bicton Blister it was very wet and muddy. In the circumstances Christian Cutcliffe (18 th ) and Simon Swift (21 st ) did particularly well. At the Exeter Cross Country (including County Champs.) Ben Trigg, Neil Holmes and Allister Bristow had a good battle, with Ben leading the trio home. We won some medals in the Championships with Neil, Allister and Cleo picking up age awards, whilst we won the Vet Men s team title.

FROM THE CHAIR EVH Road Running Representative Following Andy Trigg s resignation as the Clubs Road Running Rep due to his work commitments, we are still searching for a replacement. The role is not too arduous and could be carried out by any regular Road Race Runner. Andy is willing to continue managing the clubs Grand Prix Series so primarily the role is to coordinate road running by obtaining and making available Race Entry Forms for club members, promoting events in the locality and encouraging Club Members to target specific events as teams. There will also be the opportunity to have input into organisation of Club Away Trips to target events. There is no need to attend Committee Meetings although you would be welcome to attend and join the Committee. We do need someone to carry out this important role. If that person could be you please contact any Committee Member for more information if required. Brooks Plymouth Hoe 10 Sunday 17 th February at 0930 from Brickfields. Entry Forms available at Club or enter on line at www.runbritain.com. If you are not going to run I would welcome some help as marshals. Christmas As we move toward the festive period there are some additional items to make you aware of: Clubs Xmas Bash Friday 14 th at the Hunting Lodge. Numbers must be finalised by 11 th. The Club has subsidised this evening so please come along and enjoy yourselves. Central Park 5K Wednesday 12 th December The last of 2012 and with a festive feel. Christmas themed Fancy Dress is encouraged and spot prizes will be awarded. Registration is in the Life Centre from 6.15pm start at 7pm. Tuesday Club Run - 18 th December The final Club Run pre-christmas has traditionally been a festive type run in fancy dress or at least Christmas headwear. The norm is a run around Ivybridge in groups viewing the Christmas Lights. Last years was a good excursion with Katy Mogridge as a local leading the way. She found some great displays Richard Ayson s being one of the best where we serenaded his family with carols - we also met up with Santa en route!! Post run a drink or two was taken at a local hostelry!! Burrator Run Boxing Day from the Dam at 1100. Fun run around the lake (approx. 4 miles) bring the family. Festive dress encouraged. Bring a low cost present and put in Santa s sack at start and retrieve a present on completion of the lap. If coming please park sensibly as it does get busy in the area. Away Day Run Friday 28 th December Full details elsewhere in the Harrier. As we come to the end of what has been a great year for the Club, Sport and for the Country in general we will no doubt all have our own memories. Given my daughter s and my involvement in the Olympics my family and I have some terrific memories of 2012 that will last a lifetime. Finally may I take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and hope that Santa is kind to you and your familiys. I also hope you have a Happy, Prosperous and Healthy New Year. Paul Ross (01752 207375) paul.ross25@blueyonder.co.uk

SECRETARY S NOTES Happy Christmas to all It s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas the song says and with the colder weather it probably is. Our Christmas bash is on next Friday at the Hunting Lodge so get your tickets from John. Following consultation meetings England Athletics may be modifying their proposals. We have sent our views to them and we hope that some changes may be made. In the meantime the new membership forms are on the website and will be distributed at training sessions this week. If you think you would benefit from a family membership then please complete the form and we will let you know the discounted price. It is really the only way we can deal with it now. Sportshall The second Sportshall league took place on November 18 th and included the Devon County Championships. We had a much better turnout and won 30 medals in the Championships. Results are on the Sportshall section of the website. The team finished second overall and are now hoping to get back into the top three after the next one. A number of our athletes will be picked to represent Devon at both U11 and U13/15 level in the New year. The next league match is on Sunday 20 th January at Dawlish. Cross Country There was a much better turnout of seniors at the last Westward league at Exeter which was combined with the DCAA championships. Unfortunately most of our U15 boys were running for the College at Bolton the same weekend so had to miss it. We did manage to win some medals including taking the Vet Men s team title. Next stop is Bicton on January 6 th. See website for entry details. Road Running Our road runners have again been in good form lately including some who tackled the tough Cornish Marathon, See results section for details.
