Contact: Doug Hoffman (435) 797-3714 Sat., Nov. 9 --- at UNLV, 6 p.m. (MT) (ESPNU) Utah State s football team (5-4, 4-1) will play its final road game of the 2013 season at Mountain West foe UNLV (5-4, 3-2) on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. (MT). The game will be televised nationally on ESPNU. USU is 13-7 all-time against the Rebels, including a 6-4 road record. W, 47-10 --- HAWAI I Quarterback Darell Garretson set a school record for passing yards by a freshman in helping Utah State (5-4, 4-1) post a 47-10 win against Hawai i (0-8, 0-6) last weekend. Garretson threw for 370 yards on 28- of-41 passing with three touchdowns, setting a school record for most passing yards by a freshman and is the first Aggie freshman to throw for 300 yards since Brett Stevens in 1985. Those 370 passing yards by Garretson are the most by an Aggie quarterback this year. Utah State ended the game with 533 yards of total offense, its fourth game this season with 500-plus yards of total offense, getting a season-high 370 yards passing to go with 163 yards rushing. Senior running back Joey DeMartino led the rushing attack with 104 yards on a career-high 20 carries and a touchdown, for his fourth 100-yard rushing outing this season, including in each of his last two games. Senior wide receiver Travis Reynolds had a career-high 152 receiving yards on a careerhigh tying eight catches with a third-quarter touchdown, as his 152 receiving yards are the most by an Aggie wide receiver since 2002. Sophomore linebacker Kyler Fackrell led the Utah State defense with nine tackles and snared an interception near the Hawai i goalline and scampered 99-yards for a touchdown, for the third-longest interception return in school history. The linebacker duo of senior Jake Doughty and junior Zach Vigil had eight stops apiece. Junior safeties Brian Suite and Frankie Sutera also had interceptions. Utah State also kicked four field goals in the game, getting three from junior placekicker Nick Diaz, while freshman placekicker Jake Thompson boomed a 52-yarder late in the first half which is tied for the 10th-longest field goal in school history. W, 3-1 --- WYOMING L, 3-2 --- #9 COLORADO STATE Utah State posted a 1-1 Mountain West home record last week with a 3-1 win against Wyoming and a 3-2 loss to No. 9 Colorado State. Against the Cowgirls, senior outside hitter Tumua Etimani tied her career-high with 15 kills to go along with 15 digs, while junior outside hitter Rachel Orr had 12 kills and 15 digs, and sophomore opposite side hitter Elle Brainard had 11 kills and five blocks, while junior libero Ashlan Rogers-Court and junior setter Paige Neves added 19 and 14 digs, respectively. USU hit.205 (54-19-171) in the match and UW hit.161 (60-31-180). Against the Rams, Brainard had 15 kills, while Etimani and Orr each posted double-doubles with 13 kills and 15 digs apiece, and junior middle blocker Kaitlyn VanHoff added 13 kills. USU hit.139 (62-34-201) in the match and CSU hit.225 (66-23-191). MEN S BASKELL... Contact: Zach Fisher (435) 797-2066 Fri., Nov. 8 --- USC, 7 p.m. (CBS Sports Network) Utah State men s basketball (0-0) will begin its 2013-14 season with a home game against Pac-12 opponent USC (0-0) on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m., in a game that will be televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network (Comcast Ch. 269/753HD, Dish Network Ch. 158, DirecTV Ch. 221). USU is 6-8 all-time against the Trojans. W, 86-55 --- ADAMS STATE (Ex.) Senior center Jarred Shaw had 16 points and 10 rebounds in leading Utah State to an 86-55 exhibition win against Adams State last weekend. Shaw, who added two blocked shots in just 19 minutes, was 7-of-12 from the field and 2-for-2 at the free throw line. Junior forward Danny Berger added 15 points and four assists off the bench for Utah State, as he was 5-of-6 shooting from the field, including 4-of- 4 from three-point range and 1-for-1 at the free throw line. Freshman forward Jalen Moore also scored in double-figures with 10 points, while junior center Jordan Stone just missed a double-double as he had nine points to go along with 10 rebounds. Senior guard/forward Spencer Butterfield also came close to a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds as the Aggies had a 40-26 advantage in points in the paint, and a 17-9 advantage in second-chance points. USU shot 58.6 percent from the field (17-of-29) in the second half and finished the game shooting 48.5 percent (32-of-66). USU also connected on 6-of-10 (.600) three-pointers after halftime to finish the game at 45.5 percent (10-of-22) from behind the arc, and converted 12-of-18 (.667) free throws overall. ASU shot just 31.7 percent (19-of- 60), including just 31.3 percent from three-point range (5-16) and 42.9 percent at the line (12-of-28). USU also out-rebounded ASU by 16 (51-36) and had 12 more assists (17-5).

Contact: Mitch Praxl (435) 797-8584 Next Week Fri., Nov. 15 --- at NCAA Regionals, Riverdale, Utah, 11 am Utah State s men s and women s cross country teams will conclude its 2013 season on Friday, Nov. 15 when it travels to Riverdale, Utah to compete in the NCAA Mountain Regional. W: 5/11; M: 6/8--- at Mountain West Championships, USAFA Utah State s men and women s cross country teams put in a strong effort in their first Mountain West Championships, held at the Eisenhower Blue Course at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., last weekend as the women s team finished fifth, while the men s team brought home a sixth-place finish. The Aggie effort was spurred on by a pair of juniors. Eric Shellhorn was the top men s finisher for USU, crossing the finish line in 24:44.46, good for sixth-place and a spot on the first-team all-conference team. The catalyst for the women s team was Ashley Robison (22:11.96), who earned second-team all-conference honors with a 14th-place finish. It was the first time all year that either had finished first for their respective Utah State squads. Additionally, freshman Colby Wilson was awarded the Mountain West Freshman of the Year along with Wyoming s Michael Kesy. Wilson s time of 25:24.30 was good enough for 33rd-place. As a team, the Aggie women came in fifth-place with 121 points and the USU men finished in sixth with 130 points. Other top-20 finishers for the Aggie men included senior Kyle McKenna, who garnered the 17th spot with a time of 24:44.26. For the women s squad, sophomore Jacqueline Winterton (22:20.46) and senior Alex Litzsinger (22:21.67) finished 17th and 18th, respectively. WOMEN S BASKELL... Sat., Nov. 9 --- BLACK HILLS STATE, 7 p.m. Utah State women s basketball will play its only exhibition game of the 2013-14 season on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at home against Northwest Nazarene at 7 p.m., before beginning its 2013-14 season at home against Black Hills State (0-0) on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. Preseason Notes Utah State, who is picked to finish sixth the Mountain West preseason poll, enters its first season in the Mountain West Conference, bringing back six letterwinners from last year s squad that finished the season 18-14, finishing second in the Western Athletic Conference with a 14-4 league record. USU also advanced to the postseason for the third-straight season playing in the Women s Basketball Invitational (WBI). The Aggies will have to replace all-wac honorees Devyn Christensen and Jenna Johnson from the starting five, but do return senior guard Jennifer Schlott, junior center Franny Vaaulu and sophomore guard Makenlee Williams from the starting lineup. The Aggies have seven new players on the roster this season, including transfer guards Mariah Miles (Oral Roberts) and Jasmine Porter (San Diego State), who both sat out last season. USU welcomes three freshmen guards in Elizabeth Landreth, Shelby Cloninger and Lynette Johnson. International transfer forward Tijana Djukic and guard Ingrida Strikas both will be immediately available this season.
