I know we will have a year of great success with the consistent effort our students are putting forth in their academics, and to adhere to school rules. I am so impressed with how respectful, and helpful your children are. Thank you for the warm welcome to the Knights community. Your kindness is much appreciated. Students are working hard to improve their Mathematics and Literacy skills. Students are reminded to read every night for homework. Every student has a password for Dreambox and can access the on-line mathematics program. Passwords will be reviewed next week with students (especially with our younger Knights), so everyone can easily access it. Going on Dreambox every night for 20 minutes will help consolidate math concepts. November 2 nd PIC Conference Picking Up and Dropping Off Students Please keep the bus route open at the front of the school. No cars or trucks should be using the bus lane when dropping off or picking up children at the school. NO parking in the entrance and exit ways to our school. Buses require a great deal of space to park and to drop off students. Parents please do not park where the buses are loading or unloading. Please help keep our students safe! Please remember not to bring dogs onto school property as well. Magazine Fundraiser Thank you to all those who are supporting our magazine fundraiser again this year. Order forms and information will go home on October 4th. Please make sure you get your orders in by Tuesday, October 18 th. CAPP (Child Assault Prevention Program) & Youth Issues Ms. Christie from the Niagara Region Sexual Assault Centre will be visiting classrooms (Grades 1-8) next week to educate students about violence and assault prevention. Ms. Christie is in high demand at schools, so we are lucky to have her coming to our school. She will visit the Grades 1-3 classes on Oct 17 th, She will visit the Gr4-8 classes on Oct 18 th. Ontario Knight s Student Council Congratulations to the following students who will represent their classmates as the Ontario Knights Student Council; Jessica D., Mya C., Aidan L., Cassidy J., Lily C., Emily D., Matt M., Josh P., Kaleb L. & Ashley G. Terry Fox Walk Students participated in the annual walk through Thorold South. Thank you Knights for your school spirit and generosity! Every dollar you raised will go to the Terry Fox organization and will be used for cancer research.

Ticket sheets can be purchased at the office for $20/sheet, $10/half sheet or students can purchase one carton for $1.00. Our first Pizza Day we will be ordering from Little Caesar s on October 5 th. Please make sure your child has his/her pizza money/tickets in to the teacher first thing in the morning. The pizza is ordered shortly after announcements and late orders can NOT be accepted. The Breakfast Club A huge thank you to Laura Gillian and Post Cereal for their generous donation of 134 boxes of cereal. Our breakfast program could not run without the support of our parents and community members. 134 boxes of cereal will last for a while and we are so thankful! October is International Walk to School Month - A Message from Public Health Lace up your shoes or snap on those bike helmets for an active trip to school. If you live far from school, park a few blocks away and walk part of the trip. If you ride a bus, take part by walking to your bus stop. (Source: activesaferoutes.ca) Tips to remember when walk or biking: Look left, right and left again when crossing the street Never run or dart out into the street or cross between parked cars Make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of them and watch out for cars that are turning or backing up It s always best to walk on sidewalks or paths. Kindergartens will have their parade in the morning (9:15am) a note will come home with further information about them. Parents are welcome to join in the fun and watch the parade. Please remember that costumes that include any type of weapon or that are extremely scary should not be worn to school. Anything that impedes student vision (masks) should be left at home. If your child normally stays for lunch that day, but will be heading home to get dressed, please make sure to send a note to inform us. From 1:40-3:10 our Grade 6, 7 & 8 students will have a dance in the gym. If you are sending treats in, please remember that we are a peanut-free school. Have some fun with your family and enter our family pumpkin carving contest! Bring in your carved/decorated pumpkin by 9:00a.m., October 31st and enter to win a prize. The categories will be funniest, most original and scariest. Popcorn Mr. Kraus' grade 7/8 class will be sponsoring a child named Esther who lives in Zambia (through World Vision). To raise money, we will be making and selling popcorn on Tuesdays at first break (Unless Tuesday is a Day 1) for 50cents a bag. Donations are always accepted as well. Thank you for your support!

The PIC Conference is on November 2 this year. Please see the link on the school website for more details. Please remember that all parent council member volunteering at the school are required to sign in at the office upon entering. Visitors & Volunteers All visitors and volunteers are required to sign in at the office upon entering the school and wear a visitor s lanyard to identify that you have checked in. Also, please remember to fill out your volunteer information form if you plan to volunteer at the school for any reason. These are available through your child s homeroom teacher or at the office. Grade 8 Students and Parents: Mark Your Calendars! Starting high school is a huge step in a student's life. While it's definitely an exciting time, it also brings with it many questions, such as "What's life in high school really like? What programs and options are available to help me achieve my goals?"
