In our local community Collecting different Autumn materials to bring back to nursery for investigation in our sand trays. Using cameras to record photographic evidence. - See LJ s Home Links Grandad Alan Grandad Alan (Zak & Henry) accompanied groups on their Autumn walks to help children, parents and staff identify different types of trees, leaves, plants, and berries on our walks. Providing new vocabulary and discussing similarities and differences between shape/size/ colour of materials. Grandad Alan helped us to identify: Silver birch leaves, Alder cones, Portuguese Laurel, Elder fruit, Red Campion, Grose, Elm, Hawthron, Sweet Chestnut, Birch, Lime, Norway Maple, Sycamore, Chestnut, Giant Redwood, Larch, Scots Pine. Working with staff and children Grandad Alan helped us to sort and label the leaves/berries What can you see with your eyes? What can you hear with your ears? What can you touch with your hands/feet? What can you smell with your nose? Grandad and me picked leaves from the ground cause of the wind. I liked looking for berries.throwing leaves into the water. I got tired. My stick has a word on it, what does it say? Do we cross the road with- out a mum or dad? We stop at the crossing and press the button and then we wait for the traffic to stop. Bathgate Early Years Centre. Responsive/Consultative Planning. Topic: Autumn. Date: Oct-Nov Ziggy thought the lollipop was real, he s silly., the lollipop is for crossing the road with a lady, the cars stop and people cross I hold hands when the green man goes...i press a button, the green man goes beep beep beep, he flashes and I walk over the road, you stop at the red man. Green man means go The garden is a safe place to play, listen for cars, bikes and scooters The band (high vis) lights up in the dark so you don t get run over, people in cars will see you. I used the police car in the red pain. I rolled it all over the big paper. Red means stop, orange means get set, green means go Adults voice. Can we make a busy road? What do we see on the road? What colours do we need for traffic lights? What does the lollipop person do?

Bathgate Early Years Centre. Responsive/Consultative Planning. Topic: Autumn. Date: Oct-Nov You get leaves on the trees and they fall off, green, red and yellow. I found pinecones in Beecraigs, on the ground beside a pipe. The bottom was quite jaggy and the top was soft. Hedgehogs sleep in a hole. Ants go under the leaves to sleep. If you open the jaggy bits (Aidan D showing us conkers he brought in) you will see conkers, they fell off the conker tree. Adults Voice. Lots of animals are getting ready to hibernate. That means to have a long sleep through the winter because the winter is too cold for them to come out in and it is too hard to find food. Adults voice. This is a visualiser, it is a camera that helps you to look at things in detail, it makes things look bigger up on the Smartboard so you can see things clearly. Can you see the veins in this leaf? Leaves have veins like we do. The veins carry the water through the leaves to keep them alive.
