Krum Takes Two in District Play Krum got two more strong pitching performances to pick up a pair of District wins. Colten Knierim worked 5 strong innings against Gainesville and helped his own cause with a 3 for 3 night at the plate in a 7-2 victory. Mason Lucas worked into the 7th inning against highly regarded Celina and got the benefit of some outstanding defensive plays to lead the Bobcats to a 3-1 win. Lucas scattered 8 hits, struck out 3 and didn't walk a batter in the game. Justan Bailey came on to close out the 7th. Daulton Parrott put the visiting Bobcats ahead 1-0 in the first with a base hit to drive in Bailey, who had led off the game with a single. That score stood until the top of the fifth. Right fielder Logan Pierce erased a Celina threat in the first with a throw home after a catch in right. Krum executed the rundown play after the throw to keep the game at 0-0. Daulton Parrott snared a laser off the bat of Preston Morse with the tying run at third to end the third inning. In the fifth, catcher Colten Graham threw out a Celina runner at third trying to advance on a ball in the dirt. Krum added 2 runs in the top of the fifth. Lucas led off with a single, followed by a double by Michael Tanttari that scored courtesy runner Riley Marshall. With the bases loaded, Parrott's ground ball was mishandled at 2nd, allowing Tanttari to score. Celina picked up a single run in the 7th to make the final 3-1. Tanttari, Bailey, and Parrott had 2 hits each. Against Gainesville, Krum scored their 7 runs in the first 3 frames and held on for a 7-2 win. The Bobcats reached the Gainesville pitcher for 11 hits. Bailey added a pair of hits and 2 RBI's to support Knierim's pitching. Knierim struck out 8 and walked 3 and allowed 3 hits. Parrott came on for 2 innings of scoreless relief, striking out 3 without walking any. "Our kids played a great game against Celina," said Coach Ray Miller. "We had some big defensive plays and some timely hits. Lucas was very much in control on the mound." "Logan Pierce has done a good job in the 2 slot in the batting order the past few games. He has advanced the runners and gave us a couple of clutch hits. Parrott was solid in relief against Gainesville and Tanttari had 2 hits at Celina, including the double that ignited the fifth inning. We can be very competitive when we get contributions from the entire lineup." Krum improves to 7-2 and will travel to Aubrey Friday night for their next District game. 7
Krum Falls to Sanger in Extra Innings Despite an outstanding performance on the mound by Senior Mason Lucas, the Bobcats came up short, 5-3, in 8 innings in the District opener. Krum outhit the Indians, 10-8, but stranded 12 runners. Sanger got on the board first with a run in the first but Krum answered in the third when Carter Stokes scored on a passed ball and Daulton Parrott drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Sanger scored a run and tied it up on a bang bang play at the plate in the fifth. Krum threatened in the sixth with 3 consecutive singles after 2 outs, but Justan Bailey's fly out to right ended the inning. After Sanger went 3 up 3 down in the top of the seventh, Krum had another chance to win it, but pinch runner Corey Gumfory was picked off at 2nd. Lucas returned in the 8th to face the top of the Indians' lineup. After a fielder's choice and an intentional walk, Sanger's TJ Self doubled to deep center to plate 2 runs and the visitors added one more to go up 5-2. in the Krum eighth, Karsen Hughes singled and scored on an infield error, but the game ended with the tying runs on base. Lucas struck out6, walked 2, and allowed 8 hits. Stokes and Colton Knierim had 2 hits each for the Bobcats Krum Wood Bat Festival April 11, 2015 (revised 3/23/15) Old Field New Field 10:00 Chico JV vs. Iowa Park JV2 Krum JV vs. Cumby JV 12:15 Iowa Park JV vs. Sulphur JV Chico vs. Cumby 2:30 Krum JV vs Lone Grove JV Iowa Park vs. Sulphur 4:45 Krum vs. Lone Grove 8
