General Outline If you have rowed previously, this program will give you the chance to rekindle old skills and revisit the wonders of rowing you so often remember from yester year. For those who have never rowed or watched people row and noted the beauty, mystique and challenges associated with the sport, here is your opportunity to experience the magic of rowing for yourself. You will develop new skills while at the same time improving your fitness and enjoying the relaxation and scenery in and around the Torrens Lake. Our experienced coaches will guide you to a reasonable level of proficiency within a few brief training sessions. The program will be conducted during October and November this year and will provide you with the opportunity to experience rowing for the first time, refresh old memories or just have a great time! Participants will undertake an orientation session (10am Sunday 23rd October), eight training sessions followed by a Regatta day (10am Sunday 20th November) where newly developed skills will be put to the ultimate test in a series of heats and finals. The 2016 PAC Henley on Torrens Community Rowing Challenge provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy the beauty of this sport and improve your fitness. The 2015 PAC Henley on Torrens Community Rowing Challenge was an outstanding success and the 2016 Challenge will be bigger and better. The following information is enclosed in this information pack: Registration and Indemnity Form Information regarding the Orientation Session Program training times and requirements The cost per seat is $320 which is a package of 4 weeks of training which includes all equipment, 8 x 1.5 hour coached "on water" sessions and entry into the Henley on Torrens Regatta.

Details of the Orientation Session are outlined on the General Information Sheet enclosed. The Registration and Indemnity forms are to be completed, signed and returned prior to the Orientation Session. We will aim to be as flexible as possible in terms of training sessions within the constraints of logistics, coaching and support resources and number of crews. At this stage we are open to morning or evening sessions bearing in mind that the rowing will need to be undertaken during daylight hours. Please list your preferred day and session times in the enclosed Registration form. The date of the Community Rowing Challenge Regatta is Sunday 20 th November 10am 1pm on the Torrens Lake. Food, drinks and expresso coffee will be available for purchase so bring all the supporters you can muster!!! Indemnity Form EACH PARTICIPANT ( Rower"): warrants to all person and bodies involved in promoting and staging the event that the Rower has taken all care from a fitness and medical point of view to participate in the training program leading up to the event. The ROWER waives all and any claim, right or cause of action which he or she might otherwise have for or arising out of loss of life or injury, damage or of any description which the Rower may suffer or sustain in the course of or consequent upon participation in the training program and event. This waiver shall operate as a release and discharge separately in favor of all persons and bodies, as well as the school, involved or otherwise engaged in promoting or staging the training program and the event and all servants, agents, representatives, officers, coaches, coxswains and sponsors of any of them whether or not the loss of life, injury or damage is attributable to the act or neglect of any one or more than them. The ROWER also consents to the use of photographic / video footage being used for promotional / marketing use for future PAC Community Rowing Events. I... Information Sheet Orientation Session Briefing Brunch An Orientation Briefing Brunch will be conducted on Sunday 23rd October 10am 12pm at the PAC Torrens Boatshed (see location details below). During the Briefing, information will be proved concerning: Training Programs and Schedule Boating Procedures Allocation of Coxswains Allocation of Coaches Following the Briefing, crews will be shown boat unloading and handling techniques. Please bring suitable clothing for both rowing and socializing following the Briefing. It is vital you attend this session, as the information provided will enable the smooth and efficient running of the program and training sessions. Payment should be made prior to the Briefing Brunch, either by EFT or cheque, although cheques can be brought on the day. Please make cheques payable to: PAC Rowing Parents Support Group. Initial training sessions will be conducted from Prince Alfred College Torrens Boat Shed on War Memorial Drive on the northern bank of the Torrens just west of the University footbridge. Please refer to the following map. Sessions later in the program will be conducted on the Torrens Lake to enable longer laps to be rowed. Crews will be informed of the specific venue for each training session.

Weather We do not row if it is snowing. For all other weather please dress appropriately. Never assume it is too awful to row. Eights need 8 people to row. If you do not show, the others do not row! Requirements: Rowing outfit - casual slim fitting Water bottle Comfortable clothes (warm) Indemnity form (signed) Payment for program Old slip on shoes or joggers Old woollen socks (for wearing in boats) Hat or beanie Spare set of clothes (keep in your car) Spray jacket, will come in handy on wet days Shed rules: Leave all personal items in your car. Leave keys in the shed Showers are available Boats MUST be cleaned after use and oars sprayed Boat equipment & care: Despite being very strong for their intended use, boats and oars can be easily damaged if not handled responsibly. Most damage occurs through carelessness when: Being taken off, or being put back on the racks. Being put on or taken off the water Being placed on or taken off trestles Always close your gate after removing the oar. There may be some damage. If it does occur, please tell your coach. If it can be repaired on the spot, it should be done. If it requires more time and or expertise, please inform your coach.
