TEXAS YOUTH BULL RIDERS, INC. RULE BOOK General Rules Section I 1.Members may compete in the next older age group, but may not compete in the lower age group. 2. Contestants may compete in more than one age group for year-end awards and Finals competition as long as dues have been paid for in each event and they have competed in at least half of the events in that age group.. 3 Contestants must be members of the TYBR in order to receive points for awards and to qualify for the Finals. Non members will not collect points for year end and finals awards 3.A: Year end and Finals qualifying points are obtained only in the Region the member is registered with. 4. Contestants will ride at the events they have entered. There may be riding after the event for the next day's event. ( This does not include State Finals ) 5. Western dress code will be in effect at all TYBR events. (Cowboy boots and hat, long sleeve shirts, etc) Anyone entering the "limits of the event" (arena, behind the bucking chutes, etc.) will be held to this rule. It shall include, but not be limited to, anyone that may be helping contestant prepare to ride, parents assisting their children, arena staff and volunteers, etc. Non-compliance of this rule may result in fines and or suspension. 6. Entries - The closing date for each bull riding entry form will be on Monday s two (2) weeks prior to the bull riding. All entries submitted with fee (No postdated checks will be excepted) will receive an additional point towards their year end awards. Once entry fees are paid there are no refunds or roll over to next event, unless of a medical T O. Phone entries will be taken on the Monday s prior to the event with an additional $5.00 fee added. 7. Turnout fines will be assessed for entering an event and failing to show the fine will be $5.00 plus stock charge. If you are fined you will not be allowed to compete in other events until this fine is paid. (Exception to the fine is with a paid entry in which you will still gather your points.) 8.The use or possession of alcohol or drugs at any TYBR event will not be tolerated. Anyone found in violation of this rule may face immediate suspension and/or fines. This includes parents, fans, volunteers, and or workers. 9. Immediate Suspension Infractions A. The use of abusive, profane language, improper gestures, fighting and or stealing. B. Engaging with any of the contract help in a hostile manner by any contestant, parent or any person attending the event. C. For whatever reason the above will not be tolerated and will result in suspension of membership for the time deemed by the Directors and will forfeit any prizes and/or money earned at said event of infraction. 10. Judges decisions will be final. Parents or other person approaching, engaging, or in any way distracting the judges during the event for any reason will be subject to having their child disqualified for that event, and may be subject to a fine this also includes any Directors of TYBR. 11. Complaints will be sent to the TYBR office in writing, for consideration by the association. Complaints will be addressed immediately by the TYBR office and the person(s) submitting the complaints will be notified, in writing, or by phone within thirty days after receiving the complaint. 12. All contestants and parents will abide by the TYBR rules and regulations at all times. Failure to understand these rules will not be accepted as reason for non-compliance. 13. Announced times and scores are unofficial.
14. Year-end tiebreaker rules: 1) Go back to the highest number of first places for the year. 2) Go back to the number of second places for the year, etc. 15. The Board of Directors reserves the right to amend or revise any rule or event at any time during the season. 16. Paramedics or EMT s must be present at all times during the performance. 17. Contestants must compete in the number of the scheduled events from the first of the year, as stated per their schedule to qualify for the State Finals. 18. If you have a returned check that has not been taken care of, you will not be able to compete in any other events including the Finals until this is paid, there is a $25.00 return check fee on all returned checks. 19. Anyone can be denied membership or participation in any or all events sponsored by TYBR at anytime as deemed necessary. 20. Listed below is the TYBR point system. 1 st - 72 pt's 2 nd - 65 pt's 3 rd - 58 pt's 4 th - 51 pt's 5 th - 44 pt's 6 th - 37 pt's 7 th - 30 pt's 8 th - 23 pt's 9 th - 16 pt's 10 th - 9 pt s 21. TYBR Finals Contestants will compete as per the posted event Schedule. Contestants will not compete on the same head of stock through each go round. If a re-ride is awarded to a rider who had that draw the previous night, then the judge will go to the next draw for said re-ride. It is possible to draw the same animal in the short go.
Rough Stock Rules Section II Events: Each TYBR event will offer the following events for which points will be given to members. Mutton, Calves, Jr & Sr Riding, Jr & Sr Mini Bulls, Junior Bulls, Bull Riding, PW Bareback, Jr Bareback and Sr Bareback Mutton Bustin 4 to 6 1. Same as "Calf Riding" except: A. Contestant must use some type of rope. B. Contestant must use a mouthpiece, wear a protective vest to ride and a protective helmet with a protective face mask these are MANDATORY in ALL AGE GROUPS! C. If one (1) hand is being used and contestant touches the sheep with free hand during the ride, the contestant will be given a time instead of a score. D. If you start with two (2) hands you must finish with two (2) hands or the contestant will be given a time instead of a score. E. No Split finger allowed, but a wrap around is allowed, but not recommended. Butterfly preferred F. Re-rides will be granted, A) If sheep falls* (*not if sheep is pulled down because rider is hanging on the side), B) Rider is knocked off at chute, or C) If sheep fails to perform at judges discretion. G. Riders will not be allowed to lie on sheep during ride. Rider must be in an upright position. H. A hot shot can be used with the parent s permission, but only used after the contestant calls for the animal. Anyone using it prior to the call will be subject to disqualification. h. 1. If the animal fails to perform and the hot shot was used the judge can offer a re-ride. If the hot shot was not used there will be no automatic re-ride option. I. Muttons will not be flanked J. No one is allowed to run along, behind or assist in any way during the ride if this occurs the rider may be subject to disqualification and or fined. 2. Qualifiers for State Finals will have a score marked on qualified rides, no times will be kept. In the event no contestant makes qualified ride money will be rolled over to the next performance. If it is the last performance then ground money will be paid. Calf Riding 8 and under l. Flanked or Non flanked calves will be ridden for six (6) seconds. 2. Calf riders have the option to have their calf flanked or not flanked (non-flanked calves will not have a re-ride option). 3. Calf riders will ride with one (1) hand. A. With a loose rope with or without handhold. No Split finger allowed, but a wrap around is allowed, but not recommended. Butterfly preferred 4. A contestant may be disqualified for any of the following offenses: A. The using of abusive or profane language, improper gestures. B. By fighting or arguing with a judge, this also includes the parent. C. Touching animal, fence, equipment or person with free hand. One (1) arm must be free at all times. D. Using sharp spurs or placing spurs or chaps under the rope when rope is being tightened. E. Not having a bell on bull rope. F. Hooking a knot before coming out of the chute. G. Judges or Arena Director may disqualify or fine contestant who has been advised he is next to go, if he is not above animal with his glove on when previous animal leaves the arena.
H. Each contestant will have no more than two people pulling his rope, nor will the rope be pulled tight before the ride. 5. No one is allowed to run along, behind or assist in any way during the ride if this occurs the rider may be subject to disqualification and or fined. 6. Contestant must use a mouthpiece, wear a protective vest to ride and a protective helmet with a protective face mask these are MANDATORY in ALL AGE GROUPS! 7. Qualifiers for State Finals will have a score marked on qualified rides, no times will be kept. In the event no contestant makes qualified ride money will be rolled over to the next performance. If it is the last performance then ground money will be paid. 11 & under Junior Riding 1. Flanked animal will be ridden for six (6) seconds 2. Stock for the 11 & under Junior Riding may be young bulls, heifers or steers. 3. A contestant may be disqualified for any of the following offenses: A. The using of abusive or profane language, improper gestures. B. By fighting or arguing with a judge, this also includes the parent. C. Touching animal, fence, equipment or person with free hand. One (1) arm must be free at all times. D. Using sharp spurs or placing spurs or chaps under the rope when rope is being tightened. E. Not having a bell on bull rope. F. Hooking a knot before coming out of the chute. G. Judges or Arena Director may disqualify or fine contestant who has been advised he is next to go, if he is not above animal with his glove on when previous animal leaves the arena. H. Each contestant will have no more than two people pulling his rope, nor will the rope be pulled tight before the ride. 4. No one is allowed to run along, behind or assist in any way during the ride if this occurs the rider may be subject to disqualification and or fined. 5. Contestant must use a mouthpiece, wear a protective vest to ride and a protective helmet with a protective face mask these are MANDATORY in ALL AGE GROUPS! 6. Contestants who are knocked off or fouled at chute, animal falls, stops or is interfered with in any way by the contract help will be entitled to a re-ride at the discretion of Judges and / or Arena Director. Rule #12 does not apply to this. 7. Qualifiers for State Finals will have a score marked on qualified rides, no times will be kept. In the event no contestant makes qualified ride money will be rolled over to the next performance. If it is the last performance then ground money will be paid. 14 & under Senior Riding 1. Flanked animal will be ridden for eight (8) seconds. 2. Riding is to be done with one (1) hand and loose rope, with or without handhold. A. No knots or hitches to prevent rope from falling off animal when contestant leaves him. B. Rope must have bell. Bell must be of rectangular shape, NO crosses or shapes that could constitute crippling the stock. 3. Contestants who are knocked off or fouled at chute, animal falls, stops or is interfered with in any way by the contract help will be entitled to a re-ride at the discretion of Judges and / or Arena Director. Rule #12 does not apply to this. 4. Rider may have the option of re-ride, or of accepting a marking, if flank comes off the animal, providing the contestant has completed a qualified ride. The re-ride may be given on the same animal, if the Stock Contractor is willing, or a re-ride animal, if requested by Contestant. 5. It will be the responsibility of the contestant to ask for a re-ride immediately after dismounting and before next contestant rides. 6. The Judges shall offer the option of re-rides if performance of animal is not suitable. A. In 14 & under through 19 & under, the contestant in each age group will declare if fouled at the gate.
B. No more than 2 re-rides can be taken in a row. If a 3 rd re-ride is award it will be after the next event is done, unless it is during the last event. 7. If contestant makes a qualified ride with any part of rope in his riding hand, he is to receive a marking. 8. The contestant will have the right to call Judges to pass on whether or not animal is properly flanked to buck to best of his ability. 9. The contestant is not to use sharp spurs. 10. It is the sole responsibility of the rider or parents to make sure they compete on the stock drawn, if in doubt ask the Arena Director for clarification before putting on the rope. A Contestant will be disqualified for riding the wrong animal period. 11. A contestant may be disqualified for any of the following offenses: A. The using of abusive or profane language, improper gestures. B. By fighting or arguing with a judge, this also includes the parent. C. Touching animal, equipment or person with free hand. One (1) arm must be free at all times. D. Using sharp spurs or placing spurs or chaps under the rope when rope is being tightened. E. Not having a bell on bull rope. F. Hooking a knot before coming out of the chute. G. Judges or Arena Director may disqualify or fine contestant who has been advised he is next to go, if he is not above animal with his glove on when previous animal leaves the arena. H. Each contestant will have no more than two people pulling his rope, nor will the rope be pulled tight before the ride. 12. Contestant must use a mouthpiece, wear a protective vest to ride and a protective helmet with a protective face mask these are MANDATORY in ALL AGE GROUPS! 15. Stock for the 14 & under Senior Riding may be young bulls, heifers or steers. 16. Qualifiers for State Finals will have a score marked on qualified rides, no times will be kept. In the event no contestant makes qualified ride money will be rolled over to the next performance. If it is the last performance then ground money will be paid. 19 & under Bull Riding, 16 & under Junior Bulls 1. Flanked animal will be ridden for eight (8) seconds. 2. Riding is to be done with one (1) hand and loose rope, with or without handhold. A. No knots or hitches to prevent rope from falling off animal when contestant leaves him. B. Rope must have bell. If it is the last performance then ground money will be paid. 6 to 9 Pee Wee Bareback, 10 to 11 Jr Bareback and 12 to 14 Sr Bareback 1) Every contestant must be above the horse when the previous rider leaves the chute. Failure to do this could lead to a DQ. 2) 30 second Rule will be in effect. 3) Re-rides will be given only for flank failure, interference, fouling, or fall of animal. None will be given for inferior animals. Judges will keep a stop watch for each contestant. The judges will have a final call on all matters, and there discretion only on re-rides. 4) All contestants have the right to wear any sponsor shirts or patches. However, the event holds the right to have the contestant wear a sponsor patch. 5)6 Second qualification for complete ride. Time will start when the inside shoulder of the horse passes the chute gate plane. 6) Rider must use only (1) hand. 7)10 point deduction for spur out rule. (5 pts per judge) 8) Rider who keeps feet in the neck will be considered better spur ride than rider with feet in the cinch. ) A great ride is considered feet in the neck with a spurring motion for the entire ride. A good ride is considered feet in the neck for a part of the ride. A poor ride is considered feet in the cinch for the ride. 9) No locked or sharpened rowels. Rowels will be bareback rowels. 10) All of the rigging's must have a pad.
11) No prods, spikes, or other devices may be placed on the rigging which may affect the horses bucking. If caught would lead to a DQ. 12) Neck rolls & Vest will be required Helmets will be optional but highly recommended. 13) No adhesive or adhesive sprays may be used on the glove or rigging other than rosin. 14) All riggings handholds must be a combo of leather and rawhide. No Plastic or metal handholds are allowed.
General Rules for all Rough Stock 1. No bull, calf or steer may be put in the draw until his horns have been tipped to the appropriate size for safety. A. Head fighting animals having horns may be taken out of draw. 2. If livestock lies down in chute more than twice (2), and will not get up; a Hot Shot may be used, (but only if contestant is out of chute). 3. It is up to the rider to request another one or he may keep the same one. 4. After the animal leaves chute, no Hot Shot may be used in the arena. 5. All stock will be marked clearly and identifiable with the proper stock contractor ID tags at all TYBR Bull Riding events especially the FINALS Livestock Inspection Committee 'The TYBR will have the authority to inspect all livestock prior to the go-round draws and take out any animal that is not physically suitable. Stock Weight Stock weight will be what is available at the event. Scoring: 1. Scoring will be done as follows: Judges will keep ground time for mutton bustin, calf riding and jr. riding. To qualify as a ground time rider must complete one jump out of the chute without assistance. If there are less than ten (10)-qualified rides, the remaining event points will be awarded to timed rides starting with the longest ride. Times to be averaged between two (2) Judges Watches except in cases of foul (such as slap). 2. Animals will be ridden for time specified in event rules. Time to start when animal leaves chute. 3. The contestant and the animal are to be marked separately, 0-25 rider, 0-25 animal, by each judge. 4. Judges will have a stopwatch to double check timer s time. Judge on latch side has the official watch for that ride. 5. Judges are to sign all score sheets. 6. Time starts when the animal s inside shoulder breaks the plane of the gate. Awards 1. Year End Awards: Events averaging 5 or more entries throughout the season will award 5 Buckles and a Champion Saddle, trophies for 6th to 25th. Events averaging 2 to 4 throughout the season will award Buckles Only. 2. Finals Awards: Buckles to the Top 5 placing and Trophies for the rest. Protest 1. Only rule book violations can be protested. Quality of judges or stock will not be protested. 2. Protest fee: $200.00 3. Protest procedure is as follows: A. Protest must be a rules violation not a judges call. All Judges calls or decisions are final. B. The Arena Director must be notified before the next rider rides their animal. C. The protest must then be put into writing and submitted to the secretary. E. The protest committee will meet after the rodeo to determine the out come of the protest. F. If the protest is found valid the contestant will receive what is coming to them and also have the protest fee returned. If the protest is found in valid the rule or ruling stands and the protest fee is not refundable. G. If any of the following requirements are not meet the protest will not be allowed.
