Friday, May 22 Join us early for our Media Day Kite Show at noon on the beach behind the Wildwoods Convention Center for the traditional unlocking of the summer season! In the afternoon, event registration opens at 4:00pm in the Wildwoods Convention Center, South Lobby. A reminder to all Kite fliers everyone must register and sign the waiver to fly on our fields or at indoor flying. This is imperative in protecting the AKA insurance policy. Registration will remain open until 6:00pm. If you miss registration on Friday, registration continues on Saturday from 8:00am - 9:00am in the Wildwoods Convention Center, South Lobby. Registration packets not picked up will be available at the Rio Grande Ave sound tent PLEASE be sure to pick up your materials!!! At 6:00pm, join us for the SJKF Welcome Social located pool side at the Oceanic Motel. At 9:00pm, the annual Nite Kite Show is held on the beach at Rio Grand Ave. Bring your strobes, spotlights and your kites! The Nite Kite Show goes on until 11:00pm. Saturday, May 23 The 24rd Annual East Cost Stunt Kite Championships sanctioned by the Eastern League and the American Kitefliers Association begins! You may join the Eastern League at elcommissioner@gmail.com or 804 347 6241 or joining at the event. You can also contact the AKA at www.aka.kite.org or call 800 252 2550 for information about membership privileges. The Head Judge for this years ECSKC competition will be Forrest Cary. If you would like to assist with judging, please contact Forrest at forrest-cary@cox.net. Awards will be presented on the field following competition on each day. Why not try out some other fun events geared towards introducing new folks to our sport join us at the Learn To Fly Field, Fighter Kite Competition, Candy Drop, Running of the Bols for kids and adults! - and Rev Games, all happening on Fields 1 and 2 throughout the day. Experience the thrill of watching single line, dual line and quad line kite flyers perform their aerial acrobatics taking place on Field 1. Enter a raffle to win a FREE fighter kite lesson! Try learning how to fly indoors at our indoor workshops in the Wildwoods Convention Center. Become a part of the judging panel for the Open Individual Outdoor Unlimited sport kite competition happening on Field 4 - c mon down off the boardwalk and be a part of the events! Inside the Wildwoods Convention Center, more fun s to be had with kite exhibits, workshops and indoor flying. Workshop presenters for this year include Glenn Davison and SJKF s Canadians guests, Christine McGee, Daniel Remillard, Normand Girard and Dominic Guimond to name just a few. Outside workshops on the field will also prevail. Workshops presented in the morning are geared for kite enthusiasts and afternoon workshops are geared for the public. NEW this year, the Scott E. Spencer Memorial Wildwood Kitemakers Competition, sponsored by the South Jersey Kite Flyers! Competition will be in three categories: Judges Choice, Kitemakers Choice and Novice. All entries will be flown together at the designated time. All judges and kitemakers will walk from kite to kite together, with each kitemaker being given a short time to discuss their kite and reel it in to show off any special parts (the idea is for kitemakers to learn from each other). After all kites have been seen, the judges will choose a winner for Judges Choice and the competitors will vote for Kitemaker s Choice. Each 1st place winner of the judges Choice and Kitemakers Choice will receive a $100 cash prize. The top Novice Kitemaker wins memberships in both the AKA and SJKF. All prizes are sponsored by SJKF! All kites must be handmade by the entrant. No proxies. Multiple entries are permitted for one entry fee. Please note that our definition of novice is anyone making kites for three years or less who has not won an award at any other competition in a previous year. The WIKF Auction will be held on Saturday night in the Ballroom at the Convention Center and is open to the public! Our Silent Auction begins at 7:00pm and the Loud Auction begins at 8:00pm. Remember, the auction supports this festival so please support the auction credit cards will be accepted! Donations are welcome, very much appreciated and may be shipped in advance or hand delivered at registration. Please see the Auction Donation Form below for dates and delivery specifics. Thank you very much in advance for your generosity!!! Sunday, May 24 A second day of great competition and kite flying is planned for Sunday! Competition continues as the East Coast Stunt Kite Championships wrap up. Another fun day for the public ensues at the Learn To Fly Field, Fighter Kite Competition, Candy Drop, Rokkaku Challenge, Running of the Bols for kids and adults! -, Rev Games and our Ground Display judging, all happening on Fields 1, 2, 4 and the Festival Field throughout the day. Experience the thrill once again of watching single line, dual line and quad line kite flyers perform their aerial acrobatics taking place on Field 1. Enter again today to win a FREE fighter kite lesson and be sure to join in the Rev Mega Fly! Inside the Wildwoods Convention Center the exhibits, workshops and indoor flying continues as does the outside workshops on the field! After a day filled with fun and good times, why not carry that in to the evening? Join us for our Super Heroes themed banquet! Beginning at 6:30pm in the Wildwoods Convention Center Ballroom, tickets are $35 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under. Come join in the fun and dress as your favorite Super Hero! Monday, May 25 Today brings another type of competition the World Indoor Kite Competition! Lodging Once again our host hotel this year is the Oceanic Motel located at 4600 Ocean Ave at the corner of E. Burke Ave, directly across from the Wildwoods Convention Center. A variety of room styles are available with rates - remaining the same as last year with no increase! - beginning at $248 for three nights. Additional room nights begin as low as $70 per night. Amenities include pool, pool bar, outside Jacuzzi and a cocktail bar. Call 609-522-6500 for information and be sure to mention you are with the Kite Festival to receive the discounted rate. NEW to the WIKF hotel block this year is our overflow / secondary hotel group, the Riviera Resort Motel and the Sea & Sun Resort Motel. The Riviera is located just 5 ½ blocks north of the host hotel at 325 E Spencer Ave at the corner of Ocean Ave and can be reached at 609 522 5353. The Sea & Sun is located just 6 blocks north of the host hotel at 3909 Ocean Ave and can be reached at 609 522 2826. A variety of room styles are available with rates beginning at $89 per night for a three night stay or $99 per night for a two night stay at either location for two people.
