Northern Ireland September 26 - October 08, 2019 Day 1: Thurs, Sept 26 On arrival into Belfast Airport and after clearing customs and immigration, your local tour representative will meet and escort you to your private Coach for your transfer to the Grand Central Hotel Belfast. The remainder of the day is free to relax or explore the city. That evening you will be treated to a Welcome Cocktail Party. Day 2: Fri, Sept 27 After a full Irish Breakfast you depart for your first round of golf at the Ardglass Golf Course. This dramatic links course is set on a rugged coastline with cliff tops and an ancient town as a backdrop. Water plays a prominent part in this course with no fewer than 8 holes where the Irish Sea coastline comes into play. The 2nd is the first spectacular challenge, a Par 3 of 167 yards across a deep crevice cutting into the cliffs. The Par 3 10th is always affected by the wind. The 11th will penalise the slice you perfected on the outward journey with this Par 5 running along the shore. The 12th Par 3 is probably the most memorable hole on the Course providing magnificent views to the Mountains of Mourne. Day 3: Sat, Sept 28 Today you get an overview of Belfast with a full day tour. Highlites include the Titanic story, in the city where it all began, in a fresh and insightful way. Make your way through the 9 interactive galleries with multiple dimensions, special effects, dark rides and full scale reconstructions. Explore the shipyard, travel to the depths of the ocean and uncover the true legend of the Titanic. The day continues with a Troubles Tour. Although Belfast and Northern Ireland are now enjoying peacetimes, the reminders of the problems are still clear for all to see. The Troubles tour will allow you to see the real Belfast and learn all about the past Troubles what it was like to live through, what happened during the troubles and what it's like now since the peace process. Day 4: Sun, Sept 29 This morning you depart for County Antrim and a round of golf at Royal Portush! After golf, you head back to Belfast for your last evening in this wonderful city. Voted No 12 in the World by Golf Magazine, this Course is a masterpiece of golf course architecture. Un-imaginable rough, testing greens and rugged links land combined with the unpredictable weather of the North Atlantic makes this course an admirable test for even the most seasoned golfer. Darren Clarke, Rory McIlroy & Graeme McDowell are members of Royal Portrush with many golfers portraying the Dunluce Course as one of the most challenging courses in the World. The golf club was founded in 1888 and has hosted many Championships, such as the first Open Championship ever held in Ireland in 1951. In more recent times, Royal Portrush has hosted the Senior British Open 1995-1999, The Amateur Championship in 1993 & 2014 and will be hosting the Open again in 2019! Day 5: Mon, Sept 30 This morning you will check out of the hotel dressed in your golf attire as you depart for the short drive to Portstewart Golf Club. High Dunes, fast greens with stunning views across the Atlantic Ocean, this is a true test of Links Golf! It is widely known that Portstewart has the best opening nine holes in Irish Golf. The first hole is an intimidating start, with a downhill 425-yard par four.. Other memorable holes include the 3rd and 6th, both par 's. The 3rd is a challenging single shot measuring 207 yards whilst the 6th measures a mere 140 yards with a plateau green, testing you to the end. The Strand Course is an incredibly challenging but thoroughly enjoyable course, with every club in the bag being used. Portstewart has hosted all major Amateur National Championships including the 2017 DDF Irish Open. After golf, you will continue to the village of Bushmills where you check into the Bushmills Inn.
Day 6: Tues, Oct 01 In the small village of Bushmills, settled on the banks of the river, you will visit the oldest working distillery in Ireland. Here you will enjoy a guided tour around a working whiskey distillery, experiencing the associated smells and sights. After the visit a tasting will be offered in the bar. Did you know that Bushmills Distillery is the only one to make triple distillation to create a unique combination of smoothness and richness? From Bushmills, you depart for Donegal but enroute have a stop in the historic town of Derry. Derry, Londonderry has 1,500 years of history and culture enclosed within Ireland's only completely walled city. From the sixth-century monastic settlement to the vibrant European city of the twenty-first century, no visit to Ireland is complete without a visit to Derry. On this visit you will learn about the city's historical sites such as Derry's Walls, The Bogside, The Peoples Gallery (Murals), The Bloody Sunday Story, The History of the Apprentice Boys and The Marching Season Traditions. Once at Donegal, you check into the Rosapena Resort. Day 7: Wed, Oct 02 After breakfast, you head back to the golf course for a round at the Rosapenna Sandy Hills course. Sandy Hills - Remember the name! This course opened in June 2003 and is set to become one of the most famous golf courses in Ireland. An awesome course that will test any golfer! Each hole is spectacular and you will enjoy the views across the Old Tom Morris course to the ocean. The medal tees are sufficiently ambitious - the dunes have been so little travelled that balls straying off the fairway will almost always be just hacked back into play. From the tees, landing areas are clearly visible and the definition provided by the dunes is remarkable. From the fairways the traditional links bump and run is rarely an option - precise approach shots are required to large, elevated greens tucked into the dunes and protected by bunkers that can be properly called hazards. Day 8: Thurs, Oct 03 Once again you will check out of the hotel in your golf attire as you head over to the Old Tom Morris Golf Club. After golf, you will continue on to the Glasshouse Hotel in County Sligo. As with most good links courses, this course takes advantage of the natural terrain to provide a classic links golf challenge, These links holes run between the ocean and the dunes in what is known locally as "The Valley". The last eight holes actually play inland and uphill into high meadow that offer superb vistas over the North Atlantic Ocean. The first hole serves as an excellent illustration of the requirements for the day. An accurate tee-shot must find the right hand side of the sloping fairway to finish on the left hand side. The next holes are played alongside the ridge of dunes separating the course from the beach. The final holes return towards the new clubhouse before the course ventures across the meadows to the opposite side of the peninsula.
Day 9: Fri, Oct 04 This morning you will head off to play the County Sligo Golf Club. Over 100 years old and fondly known as Rosses Point, this Course received European Golf Destination of the Year 2011 by Iagto. It is a strategic Links with dramatic undulations, raised plateau greens, run-offs, high & low grounds, cliffs, challenging bunkers, burns and dunes - County Sligo GC has it all! The back 9, played on the headland, are truly magnificent. Rosses Point is one of the most popular destinations and once you have played a round on this wonderful challenging course, you will understand why! Day 10: Sat, Oct 05 After breakfast you check out of the hotel but before leaving town, you will discover the world of the famous Irish poet,william Butler Yeats. Your first stop is at Drumcliffe where you will see the church and graveyard of Drumcliffe which lies under the shadow of Sligo's most famous mountain, Ben Bullen and where Yeats wanted to be buried. Visit Glencar Waterfall which served as an inspiration to the poet and was also featured in his poem The Stolen Child. The view from this lovely forest walk is impressive. Yeats is so closely associated with Sligo, that it will be surprising to learn he never actually lived here! From there, your coach will take you off to Dublin for your last stop on the journey. Here you will be checking into the Davenport Hotel. Day 11: Sun, Oct 06 This day in Dublin is set for some sightseeing with the first stop at Trinity College and the opportunity to see the historic Book of Kells. The Book of Kells Exhibition is a must-see on the itinerary of all visitors to Dublin. Located in the heart of Dublin City, a walk through the cobbled stones of Trinity College Dublin will bring you back to the 18th century when the magnificent Old Library building was constructed and which displays the Book of Kells. The 9th century book is a richly decorated copy of the four Gospels of the life of Jesus Christ. It is Ireland's greatest cultural treasure and the world's most famous medieval manuscript. The next stop will be at Dublin's Kilmainham Gaol which held some of the most famous political and military leaders in Irish history such as Robert Emmet, Charles Stewart Parnell, the 1916 Rising leaders and Eamon de Valera. If for no other reason, Kilmainham Gaol is remarkable for being the biggest unoccupied gaol in Europe. You will get a dramatic and realistic insight into what is was like to have been confined in one of these forbidding bastions of punishment and correction between 1796 and 1924. It offers a true insight into some of the most profound, disturbing and inspirational themes of modern Irish history. The day ends, fittingly, with a stop at the Guinness Brewery! Day 12: Mon, Oct 07 Your last day in Ireland is a free day for you to choose what you would like to do. You can relax and sightsee more of the many charms of Dublin or you can enjoy one last round of golf at your one of the many famous courses in and around the Dublin area. Day 13: Tues, Oct 08 This morning it is time to go home. You will check out of your hotel in the morning and transfer to the airport in time to catch your flights home.
