Parent Update April 29, 2016 We are approaching the end of the year. There are only 6 more weeks remaining in the school year. Please keep on top of what is going on in the school, and how your child is doing in their classes. The end of the school year is VERY busy, please keep up on dates and events throughout the end of the year as well. 42nd Street a GREAT success!! Congratulations to the cast and crew of 42nd Street. This production was AMAZING!! The show performed 5 times to packed houses. In case you missed it, you will get a chance in the fall to see it again, as we are going to be taking this show to competition next school year!!! Thank you to everyone for your support through the process of putting on the show. It always takes a large group effort to assure that a huge show like this is a success. No matter what part you played in making this happen, we appreciate your support!! Fourth Progress Period Ends on 13, 2016 Please be on the lookout for progress reports which come home with students on 13th. This is one of the most important progress reports of the year, as we will only have about 4 weeks left in the school year after that. Remember - you can always check your child's grades on the parent portal.

Giving Challenge Update We want to share the two big projects that were funded by you through the Giving Challenge last fall. The sign on the front of the school and the tent which is used for TKD are complete. Thank you for your support in making these projects a reality for the school!! Senior News Transcript request forms are available outside the Registrar's office.

Transcripts are prepared every Thursday afternoon and are available for pick up after 4 PM. The transcripts, when requested, are also mailed on Friday morning. THE ADDRESS OF THE SCHOOL OR PARTY RECEIVING THE TRANSCRIPT IS REQUIRED. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU WRITE THE ADDRESS CLEARLY IN THE SPACE PROVIDED ON THE FORM. Helpful Information: Transcript requests are accepted by the registrar throughout the week and must be received no later than 12:00 PM, (Noon) on Thursday to ensure processing the same day. The first transcript is free; each additional transcript is $3.00. Please fill out the form completely and legibly. If your student is 18 years old the student must request the transcript themselves. The following information is included on every transcript: grades, GPA, class rank, courses, community service hours, immunizations, and standardized test scores. An official transcript has a seal on the back,if you break the seal the transcript is no longer "official." It is the student's responsibility to make sure the admissions office at their college or university has received and processed the transcript. The best way to make sure your transcript is received by the college or university of your choice is to request an official transcript and mail it yourself either return receipt requested or via another way that allows for tracking. ***PLEASE NOTE AFTER MAY 13, 2016 - the Registrar will not be processing any transcripts for Seniors until the Graduation date is processed and entered on the transcripts, approximately around June 10th. There are exceptions such as scholarships, grants, and some colleges, where a transcript will still be printed on a weekly basis. ADDITIONALLY, it is essential that students continue to work hard and pass their classes. Please help us avoid the epidemic of Senior-idus that is rampant at this time of year. Arts and Academics together at Cortez Village Last Saturday, students from Florida History, photography, and visual art classes did

a fantastic job presenting and performing their work at the annual Cortez Community Picnic. This is a cross-curricular project where students from Florida History participate in oral history research of Cortez fishing village and then present/perform the information through monologues, poetry, quotes, and song. Ms. Blair's photography students spent time coming out to the village to take a variety of photos of Cortez and Ms. Rosenbarger's art students created a variety of art pieces that were connected to Cortez and the culture. A number of student artists not only displayed their art but they also came to the picnic to speak about their artistic inspiration and creative process. For many this was their first public speaking experience. The student interaction with the community was a wonderful thing to see. A number of students sold their art as well. It was also great to see many parents come out. The community of Cortez was once again amazed by our talented students. Thank you to Ms. Blair, Ms. Rosenbarger, and Ms. DiFranza for your support of the students and the school mission! Attention 6th Grade Parents All 6th Grade Students must get more shots before 7th Grade. The State of Florida requires proof of immunization on all students entering 7th grade each year. This proof must be on the official State of Florida Immunization Form (DH680... the Blue Card) which is obtained from your doctor's office or the Heath Department. The following immunizations must be documented on this form: * Tetanus, Diphtheria, and acellular pertussis (Tdap) - This is the update shot that you need for 7th Grade. * Hepatitis B vaccine series * Varicella vaccine or the year of disease

* Two doses of MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) Please see your doctor or the Health Department for more information and to assure that your child has met these requirements. This documentation must be submitted to the school before the first day of school next year (August 10, 2016). Students will not be allowed to come to school until these shot requirements are met. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. England and France 2017 Our trip to England and France in 2017 is still a go! We will spend 10 great days visiting amazing places-london, Stonehenge, D-Day beaches, Mont St. Michel, Loire valley châteaux, the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame, Orsay museum-just to name a few. It's just a little over a year away so come join us! Check out the trip at www.passports.com, Tour ID-MTURNER2017. Please send me an e-mail at mturner@msfta.org if you have any questions. It's going to be one fantastic trip! For those already signed up to go on the England/France trip in 2017-there will be a meeting on Wednesday, 11th from 5-6pm in room 4-308. Please bring a photocopy of your passport. We will be discussing any add-ons we might want to do and other preparatory things for the trip. A parent should come with his or her student just to hear the information and know what is happening. Please make every effort to be there. This schedule applies to all High School students and Middle School students taking high school classes. 12th Grade Student Exams Date 20 23 24 Periods B and D F and H A and C
