Atlanta Hawks Media Information Members of the Media: Welcome to the 2003-04 edition of Atlanta Hawks and NBA basketball. As the Hawks enter their 36th year in Atlanta, the organization appreciates your efforts and extends its cooperation to assist you in your duties. In an effort to continue a smooth and efficient operation this season, the following rules have been established: General: Additional Hawks information and photographs are available by contacting the Media Relations Department at (404) 827-3800. To send a FAX to the Hawks Media Relations offices, you may dial (404) 827-4229. Credentials: Single-game credentials (press and photo) must be requested on company letterhead to the Hawks Media Relations Department, no later than 12 noon the day before the game (Friday noon for weekend games). You may phone in your request by calling (404) 827-3800, and asking for anyone in the department, or you can fax your request to (404) 827-4229. Pre-arranged credentials may be picked up from the Media Entrance on the service level of Philips Arena off Park Avenue West. Those regularly assigned to the Hawks and the opposing teams will be seated at courtside, or in the press auxiliary areas behind the basket on the Hawks end of the court. Those requesting single-game credentials will be seated on a first-come, firstserved basis. Guests are not allowed. Media Members Holding Hawks Season Passes Should Notify the Media Relations Department if Planning to Cover a Game in Order to Receive Proper Seating. Media Workroom: The Hawks Media Workroom is located to the right of the Media Entrance off Foundry Street at Philips Arena. The Media Workroom will be open two hours prior to game time, at halftime and following the game. Press room usage is only available to those with a valid Hawks media credential, and telephones are available for filing purposes after the contest. Media Parking: There are two parking areas for the media at Philips Arena: (1) LOT A and (2) PHILIPS ARENA PARKING. Unless you have a season parking pass for either location, you must contact the Hawks Media Relations Department for that night s contest to see if additional parking spots are available. To reach either location from downtown, take Andrew Young International Boulevard to Centennial Olympic Park Drive, take a LEFT, go to Marietta Street (McCormick & Schmick s is on the corner) and take a RIGHT. At the second light (Park Avenue West), take a LEFT, and once you cross over the railroad tracks, follow the signs to your designated area. Services: Game notes will be available in the press room 90 minutes prior to game time. Games statistics (playby-play, quarter stats and halftime box scores) will be delivered to the press table, while final boxes and fourth quarter play-by-plays will be available in the Media Workroom after the game. Photographers: Passes will be provided to accredited photographers from Atlanta-area daily newspapers and television stations. Photographers from weekly newspapers and magazines must request single-game passes from the Hawks Media Relations Department no later than 12 noon the day before the game (Friday noon for weekend games). Freelance photographers wishing credentials must submit a letter citing a specific assignment from a publication to obtain working passes. Photographers are allowed only within the lines at each end of the court. Remember, spectators are seated directly behind you and court vision must not be hindered. In addition, still photographers are not allowed in the Hawks or opponents locker room. Still photographers are required to use a rubber soft lens on their cameras. Locker Rooms: In accordance with NBA policy, the Hawks locker room will be open to members of the media up to 45 minutes before game time, and 10-15 minutes after the end of the game. Only working members of the press with valid credentials will be admitted to the locker rooms. Media members are asked to refrain from asking for player autographs. 292

STEVE HOLMAN Beginning his 19th season as a member of the Hawks Broadcast Team, Steve Holman will man the play-by-play mikes for his 15th full season on the Atlanta Hawks Radio Network. He has broadcast 1,193 consecutive Hawks games, including playoffs, the longest current radio streak in the Eastern Conference. Holman reached a milestone in 2000, as he worked his 1,000th consecutive Hawks radio broadcast on February 18 when the Hawks visited the Golden State Warriors. His 1,100th straight came in a March 28, 2002 home contest vs. Toronto. The 49-year-old Holman, who joined WSB Radio prior to the 1995-96 season, had done play-by-play and color commentary on Hawks broadcasts for three-and-a-half seasons before taking over the play-by-play responsibilities full-time in 1989. Along with his duties as Voice of the Hawks, Holman also handles sports duties for Atlanta s Morning News on WSB Radio. During the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games, Holman was part of Radio Voice of the Hawks Westwood One s/nbc National Radio coverage of the games, calling play-by-play action for both the men s and women s gold medal basketball teams in addition to boxing. Holman has been involved in the NBA since the early 1970 s when he was broadcast assistant to the Boston Celtics late play-by-play legend Johnny Most. Holman s first NBA play-by-play experience came in 1975 when Most lost his voice mid-game. Holman has been a fixture on Atlanta radio since 1980 when he arrived to work on Falcons football and Atlanta Chiefs soccer. Along with numerous awards for sports reporting, Holman has also won the Georgia Associated Press Award for his Hawks play-by-play coverage. Holman and his wife Mary Jane reside in Atlanta with their two children, Steven, Jr. and Scott. Holman was born March 5, 1954 in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Media Information (cont.) Now entering his eighth season as the play-by-play television announcer on the Hawks Broadcasting Team, Bob Rathbun will announce games on the Hawks Network Package. The 48-year-old Rathbun earned a Southeastern Regional Emmy from the National Assocation of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) as their outstanding sports performer of the year in 1999. He was also the 1998 Georgia Sportscaster of the Year as voted on by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. Rathbun has served as the college basketball play-by-play announcer for the ACC Television Network through Raycom/JP Sports since 1987. Rathbun also announces Atlanta Braves games for FOX Sports Net. With an extensive sports background, Rathbun's broadcasting BOB RATHBUN Hawks Network Package Announcer career has earned him six Virginia Sportscaster of the Year honors (1980-82, 1985, 1988-89), a Distinguished Service Award from the ACC (1994), and a Distinguished Alumni Award from Catawba College (1988). He has also worked with most of the major sports broadcast properties (including the NCAA basketball tournament for CBS and the College World Series for ESPN) at one time or another, in addition to handling playby-play duties for the Detroit Tigers (1992-94). Rathbun, who graduated with a bachelor of arts in speech from Catawba College (1976), and his wife Marybeth have two children, Courtland John and Grace. He was born November 25, 1954 in Wakefield, Rhode Island. Former Hawks guard Mike Stinger Glenn is back behind the mike for another year as he enters his 14th season as the analyst for the Hawks Network Package. The 47-year-old Glenn averaged 7.6 points over his 10-year NBA career, and 8.0 points during four seasons with the Hawks (1981-85). A two-time NBA Player of the Week recipient, he continues to hold Atlanta s single-season field goal percentage record of 58.8 percent (1984-85). He also spent time with the New York Knicks (1978-81) and the Milwaukee Bucks (1985-87). The Southern Illinois grad (1977) has conducted the Mike Glenn Basketball Camp for the Hearing Impaired over the last 23 years, and was the winner of the NBA s J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award in 1981 for his work with the hearing impaired. During the 1997 off-season, Glenn published a book which he MIKE GLENN Hawks Network Package Analyst researched and wrote entitled Lessons in Success from the NBA s Top Players. In addition, Glenn possesses one of the most extensive book collections in Georgia, specializing in the African-American experience.
