For this meeting we were visiting the permanent YPL Littleport venue and enjoying the great facilities. This track was very different from round 1 at Wycombe with similar length straights but much tighter corners. Many drivers experiencing grip roll in practice on the abrasive Littleport carpet. The entry list for round 3 was down on the round at Wycombe with 14 Hot Rods, 5 Ministox and 14 Saloon Stox but was full of quality with World, European, National and Club champions all in attendance. The concours trophies were won by Simon Hadley with his blue and yellow chequered Mazda 323, Sam Campbell with his Ministox and Darren Sayers winning the Saloon Stox trophy for his Loony Tunes Saloon Stox. New at YPL 3 months had passed since round 1 at Wycombe in March and two manufacturers had new cars at YPL. Mardave gave their AC12 Oval Edition kit its debut which features the same carbon chassis as their GT12 kit of the same name. This chassis offers better turn-in and stability than the standard Oval Edition. The normal qualifying rules applied with the best 3 from 4 rounds being added together to get a qualifying score. Round 1 and first up were the Saloon Stox. Race 1 was a close run thing with James Blower leading from start to finish with his owndesign Interceptor chassis making 81 laps. James Burling pushed James Blower close only missing out by 2 seconds. Race 2 and Zak Davey led at the start but some contact dropped him behind Joseph Leeke. Joseph led until lap 16 before hitting trouble and dropping down the order. Zak then took the lead again to dominate the heat and take the win with 82 laps. Chris Wilkinson took a strong 2 nd place with 78 laps. Mardave AC12 Oval Edition Also seen in the pits was TIC Racing s Terminator kit. This car is available in different versions for Banger, Saloon Stox and Hot Rod racing. Both cars performed well on the track. With Zak Davey using his Terminator Saloon Stox to take pole and Chris Wilkinson taking pole in the Hot Rods with the AC12 OE.

The Ministox class was next up in race 3. Sam Campbell dominated the race in the TIC Manic Mini with 80 laps. Martin Watts took a good second position. Simon Hadley s smart Mazda 323 Race 4 saw the Hot Rods take to the track, non-contact and fast racing the order of the day. World Champion Keith Smith took the win in this one on 86 laps from Mardave s Chris Wilkinson on 84 laps and Miklos Szabados on 83 laps. Keith Smith won round 1 with his brushed Mardave v12, Keith had since upgraded the chassis to the Mardave OE and moved to brushless and Lipo but was still going very well. Race 5 and Team Kamtec s Mark Goodchild showed some speed to be fastest in round 1 with an 87 lapper narrowly beating Sam Campbell into 2 nd by less than 2 seconds. Sam Campbell was racing the TIC Terminator Hot Rod kit. Wycombe club racer Simon Hadley was also on good form putting in a solid 86 lapper to take 3 rd. Lee Warner and Chris Wilkinson s Hot Rods Round 2 started again with the Saloon Stox and race 6, Zak Davey continued his great form and improved onto an 84 lap score. Zak led from start to finish and was tracked by James Blower and James Burling. James Burling hit problems later in the race to drop down the field after 3 minutes. James Blower took 2 nd place. Race 7 and this one was won by Miklos Szabados on 77 laps from Wycombe Club Champion Allan Priddle on 76 laps. Martin Watts was the early leader but dropped back as the race went on. Special mention goes to Chris Harman who burnt out the first of 3 motors he was to ruin on the day on his way to 6 th.

Race 8 and the Ministox were again won by Sam Campbell on 76 laps, Sam being pushed much harder this time by Martin Watts. Sam Campbell s and Martin Watt s Ministox Race 9 and the Hot Rods were back out and this was to be a Wycombe dominated race. Simon Hadley taking the victory from Mark Goodchild, Simon managing 87 laps and Mark a lap back on 86 losing the lead after contact on lap 85. 2012 National champion Jaik Golloghly took 3 rd also on 86 laps. Race 10 and Keith Smith led the race for much of the heat with Chris Wilkinson passing Keith on lap 79. In one of the closest finishes of the day Chris took the heat win from Keith by less than half a second. Sam Campbell took a solid 3 rd position. Race 11 and James Blower continued his good day with 84 laps and the fastest time of the day so far. Fordham club racer Joseph Leeke took 2 nd on 77 laps from Allan Priddle on 76 laps. Race 12 and young Zak Davey took another heat win with 82 laps. Zak a local driver at Club TIC and he pipped fellow TIC racer James Burling who posted a 79 lapper. Zak Davey s and Miklos Szabados s Saloon Stox Race 13 were the Ministox, Sam Campbell made it 3 out of 3 with a 79 lapper. Martin Watts took 2 nd place and Bailey Perrin 3 rd. Race 14 for the Hot Rods had three of the main contenders all together. Mark Goodchild seemed to have steering problems from the start and dropped back eventually to retire. Chris Wilkinson and Keith Smith then took advantage of the clearer track as Sam Campbell also did not start. Chris led for most of the race to take the win with 91 laps and set the fastest time we would see all day. Keith Smith was close behind and managed 90 laps. Race 15 was wide open on paper but it was

dominated by Jaik Golloghly who showed he was in contention for the win with a fast 87 lap score. Matt Baker took 2 nd on 85 laps and Simon Hadley back in 3 rd on 84. So to the final round of qualifying, Zak Davey really pushed hard in race 16 to post the fastest Saloon Stox time of the day with 85 laps and ensure he would start on pole position. Zak led the race from start to finish, 2 nd place this time went to Miklos Szabados on 81 laps followed by James Burling on 80 laps. Race 17 was won by Chris Wilkinson on 79 laps from Stephen Blower on 75 laps. Martin Watt s and Darren Sayers Saloon Stox Sam Campbell made it 4 out of 4 in the final Ministox heat once again managing 80 laps. He again beat Martin Watts into 2 nd and Kevin Brand 3 rd. Sam really dominating the Ministox class this year having won the prestigious Southern Series earlier in the year. The Hot Rods final round of qualifying had a few drivers needing a result to ensure an A final place. Race 19 and Team Kamtec s Mark Goodchild could relax as a fast 88 lap score would ensure he would make the final. 2 nd place went to Matt Baker (85 laps) and 3 rd to Team Kamtec s Tony Wade (84 laps). Race 20 and Chris Wilkinson matched Mark s time from Race 19 to ensure he would be on pole position with 88 laps. Chris narrowly beat Keith Smith into 2 nd position also on 88 laps. Jaik Golloghly took 3 rd on 86 laps just beating Team Kamtec s Chris Booker also on 86 laps. Chris unluckily missed the A final due to 2 non-finishes in previous heats. Mark Goodchild s Kamtec Fiesta Mk 6 Hot Rod Onto the finals and first onto the track were the Saloon B finalists. This was to prove a close one with Kevin Brand leading from start to finish but closely tracked by Jim Harrington. Jim had been struggling with under steer all day but managed to improve the car for the final. In the end Kevin

took the victory by just over 2 seconds. The A-final looked a very competitive line-up and we were not to be disappointed. Initially it looked like the race was to be dominated by the TIC Terminator with Zak Davey and James Burling trading places in the early stages. James in particular was driving a good tight line around the YPL oval. This continued until around lap 30 with some inevitable contact shuffling the field and allowing Mikos into the lead with his Mardave. James Burling continued to circulate well and passed again to lead until lap 60. At this stage the race did get very rough with plenty of contact shuffling the field. James Burling appeared to come off worse and this let Zak and James Blower back in front of him. James Blower then managed to take the lead at lap 68 which he was not to lose again. 2 nd place went to Zak Davey with Miklos Szabados 3 rd. Saloon Final: 1 st James Blower, 2 nd Zak Davey, 3 rd Miklos Szabados The Ministox were next onto the track, surely only a car failure would stop Sam Campbell winning this final. There was no upset this time with Sam driving a great race to post his best time of the day with 82 laps. Kevin Brand took a fine 2 nd place with young Bailey Perrin having a great 2013 with 3 rd. Ministox Final: 1 st Sam Campbell, 2 nd Kevin Brand, 3 rd Bailey Perrin

The Hot Rod B final was also looking like a competitive race but the favourite had to be Chris Booker who definitely had the speed to make the A-final. The early leader was Ben Marshall but Chris soon reeled him in to take the lead. Chris led from the front and drove a good race to get an 86 lap score. Ben Marshall took 2 nd with Lee Warner just pipping Allan Priddle for 3 rd. Onto the A-final and the entire grid all had cars capable of fast lap times so we hoped for a good race. The initial few laps were clean and Chris Wilkinson led from Keith Smith early on, Jaik Golloghly holding 3 rd and Simon Hadley 4 th. Chris however was then caught up with a back marker and current World Champion Keith Smith hit the front. Today though it was not to be Keith s day when a back-marker missed his braking point and put Keith out of the track, losing his advantage. At this stage it was Simon Hadley leading which he managed to hold onto until lap 21. At this point Chris, Mark Goodchild and Keith Smith passed him. Chris held onto the lead until lap 36 when Mark passed cleanly for the lead. Chris and Mark were both close on lap time and the track and Chris managed to pass Mark again on lap 45. Unfortunately for Chris and Keith they were both caught in some accidents in the second half of the race which allowed Mark to pull out a decisive lead and win his first Hot Rod BRCA National event for Team Kamtec. Chris Wilkinson finished 2 nd with Keith Smith 3 rd. Hot Rod Final: 1 st Mark Goodchild, 2 nd Chris Wilkinson, 3 rd Keith Smith Championship Update: After YPL here are the top 3 in each class: Hot Rods: 1 st Keith Smith: 194 2 nd Mark Goodchild 193 3 rd Tony Wade 180 Ministox: 1 st Sam Campbell: 296 2 nd Martin Watts 271 3 rd Kevin Brand 265 Saloon Stox: 1 st James Burling: 276 2 nd Miklos Szabados 269 3 rd Martin Watts 265
