RIVERMEAD GOLF CLUB Junior Program and Camps 2019
About the Rivermead Junior Program The Rivermead Junior Program includes: 14 weekly one-hour group lessons for five different age categories (Bilingual instruction is available). Each participant receives verbal video analysis of their swing which will be sent via e-mail. Instruction will cover all aspects of the game of golf. We will hold five (5) junior tournaments at Rivermead in 2018 as part of the Kuster Kup for ages 7 to 18. Points will be awarded similar to the PGA Tour FedEx Cup. Results will be posted after every event on the Junior Board outside the Pro Shop. Juniors must play in three of the five events to qualify for prizes and the take-home winner s trophy in each age division. Juniors may participate in the Kuster Kup but choose not to be part of the competition. The 2-day Junior Club Championship will be Rounds 3 and 4 of the Kuster Kup. The Awards presentation for the Club Championship and Kuster Kup will take place after the final round. There will be two qualifying rounds for the Rivermead Roadrunners Junior Intersectional Team. There will be two Parent/Mentor/Junior Scrambles. One in the spring and one in the fall. All nonmember parents/grandparents or mentors are welcome to play 9/18 holes with their child or junior for only $20 with all proceeds going to the Rivermead Junior Development Program. The Rivermead annual Drive, Chip and Putt Contest for ages 7 to 18 is a very popular event. This contest is lots of fun and excellent preparation for any junior who may wish to become more competitive in this event with the chance to compete at Augusta National during Masters week. Throughout the season the Junior Clinics will include discussions on the Rules of Golf as well as physical fitness training and instruction on the mental approach to golf. The Junior Program is conducted by our Head Golf Instructor, Ralph Kuster who has instructed 22 junior boys and girls who have gone on to receive golf scholarships in the United States. Ralph enjoys working with juniors and has fully bilingual assistants to ensure each student is receiving maximum attention and instruction. Ralph has more than 25 years of experience in the golf industry. He began his career as an apprentice at the Board of Trade Golf Club in Toronto working under Murray Tucker, one of only a handful of CPGA Master Professionals in Canada. Details on Junior Memberships Pre-junior (7 to 9 years old as of January 1) This category is reserved for children and grandchildren of golfing members of Rivermead Golf Club. The Pre-juniors must be accompanied on the golf course at all times by the parent or grandparent golfing member. Pre-juniors must tee off from the forward (red) tees on Par 3s, from the 150 yard marker on Par 4s and from the 200 yard marker on Par 5s unless the Head Professional approves play from the forward (red) tees. The Head Professional must confirm that the pre-junior is capable of handling golf course play. Restrictions on day and time of play: Weekdays: after 5 pm Weekends and Statutory Holidays: after 3 pm Beginners (10 to 18 years old as of January 1) This category is for junior members who do not yet have a handicap. The Beginner Junior must play with a playing member at all times. Restrictions on day and time of play: Weekdays: after 5 pm Weekends and Statutory Holidays: after 3 pm Juniors (10 to 18 years old as of January 1) This category is for junior members who have an established handicap. Juniors may play with other juniors during the appropriate times. Restrictions on day and time of play: Weekdays: before noon and after 2 pm (no play on Wednesdays after noon) Weekends and Statutory Holidays: after 1 pm Class A Juniors (10 to 18 years old as of January 1) This category is for junior boy members with handicap factors of 8.6 or less and junior girl members with handicap factors of 18.4 or less. Class A Juniors may play outside the restricted times above with a playing member, if they have received permission from the Head Professional. Class A Juniors ranked in the top 50 of the QGA order of merit and those who are members of a provincial golf team and who have submitted a positive letter of recommendation from a school principal or other adult in a similar position of authority may be approved to have the same playing privileges as full playing regular members. 2019 Rivermead Junior Golf Camps In 2019, Rivermead will offer three Junior Golf Camps: Elite Intensive Training Program (Boys and Girls, ages 14 to 18) Dates TBC, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Progressive Juniors (Boys and Girls, ages 10 to 13) Dates TBC, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Pre-Juniors (Boys and Girls, ages 7 to 9) Dates TBC, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. All camps will provide instruction in: Golf swing fundamentals Alignment Chipping and pitching fundamentals Putting methods, reading the greens and procedures Trouble/specialty shots Fairway and greenside sand trap shots Playing in weather conditions Golf course management skills Physical fitness Mental approach to golf Key rules of golf Golf etiquette Excellent training aids All students will receive a video analysis which will be sent to the student via email. Each camp is limited to 15 participants per class. The cost is $450 plus applicable taxes per student per camp. $300 for each additional junior from the same family. A nutritional lunch will be provided each day (vegetarian option available).
