TECK OKANAGAN CUP SERIES TECHNICAL GUIDELINES 2018/2019 The Teck Okanagan Cup Series ffers affrdable, accessible cmpetitive pprtunities fr develping athletes living in the Okanagan. It includes interval start, mass start and individual sprint races held annually at different lcatins thrughut the regin. Club pints are accumulated frm race t race and a club aggregate is awarded t the club with the mst pints at the end f the final race. Cmpetitins are held in accrdance with CCC Rules & Regulatins. 1. SITE SELECTION Sites are selected based n their ability t guarantee quality rganizatin and apprpriate curses / distances fr develping athletes as well as their ability t attract the greatest number f participants. 2. SANCTIONING Teck Okanagan Cup races are registered with Crss Cuntry BC but they are nt natinally r prvincially sanctined, which means they are nt Canada Pints List races and d nt usually require a Technical Delegate. 3. TITLE SPONSOR Teck, a diversified resurce cmpany based in British Clumbia, is the title spnsr f the Okanagan Cup Series. Teck bibs, prvided by the Crss Cuntry BC ffice, must be used fr all Okanagan Cup races. The ffice will als prvide fur hrizntal and fur vertical Teck-branded site banners fr the start and finish area, banners/headers fr yur race ntice and ZONE4 start lists and results pstings. In additin the ffice will supply specific awards (medals and ribbns) as described belw in sectin 9. 4. RACE NOTICE: The Teck lg will be prvided t race rganizers fr the race ntice, start lists and results lists. The race ntice and registratin infrmatin MUST be psted n ZONE4 a minimum f fur weeks in advance f the cmpetitin. Fr the ZONE4 psting a header/banner with Teck Nrthern Cup Series n it will be prvided t the race rganizers by Crss Cuntry BC. Entries must clse n later than Wednesday prir t the cmpetitin. NO POST ENTRIES ARE ALLOWED. Cmpetitrs shuld be ffered the pprtunity t register n ZONE4. If entries are sent via electrnic mail, race rganizers must ntify the sender that their entries have been received. With the exceptin f sprint races, Saturday's race start time is usually 11:00 am t allw sufficient preparatin time fr skiers frm nearby cmmunities traveling t the event the mrning f the race. Sunday's race start time is usually at 10:00 am t allw mre travel time fr skiers traveling lng distances hme. Sprint races usually begin at 9:00 am. The ntice shuld include a cancellatin plicy pertaining t refunds - bth fr situatins in which the participant wishes t withdraw, and fr situatins when the rganizers cancel the event. In additin, please include a basic accmmdatin list with phne numbers. The race ntice shuld be planned carefully s that there are n changes after it is psted. 5. COACHES MEETINGS AND DRAW The draw shuld be held n later than the Thursday night befre the event. This is fr the cnvenience f the event rganizers. Skiers shuld nt be seeded, but gruped accrding t their categry and their psitins determined by a nrmal draw prcedure. Caches Meetings are nt held at Nrthern Cup events t allw caches (wh are ften traveling lng distances as well as preparing yung and inexperienced athletes fr the cmpetitin) t spend mre time with their team. It is therefre imprtant that the race ntice is cmplete with all the necessary infrmatin that the caches require. 6. START AND RESULT LISTS Yunger age categries (Midget and yunger) MUST be first n the start list. It is recmmended that the race schedule begin with Atms and wrk up t Midgets. Juvenile and lder age categries shuld be started in whatever rder wrks best fr the rganizers when all the implicating factrs are cnsidered. Bth start and results list MUST include the year f birth and name f hme club fr each athlete. Nt nly is this a nrmal standard but it is essential fr determining the club aggregate award. The Teck lg must be displayed n the start lists and results lists. Fr the ZONE4 psting a header/banner with Teck Okanagan Cup Series n it will be prvided t the race rganizers by Crss Cuntry BC. The fficial results psted n Zne4 shuld be presented by age categries, nt year f birth.
The start list shuld be psted n ZONE4 n later than Friday evening befre the event. It shuld als be available at the race site by late Friday afternn. 7. COURSE INSPECTION The cmpetitin curses must be prperly grmed and marked fr inspectin several hurs prir t the first event. It is imprtant that the curses are marked crrectly. A curse map displayed in the stadium area is nt sufficient. Classic tracks are nt set fr the Free Technique events at this level f cmpetitin. Hwever, because this Series is a junir develpment prgram, classic tracks d need t be set n the side f the curse used fr the Atms age categry fr all events except the sprints. 8. TIMEKEEPING An electrnic timing system is required. Clubs may have access t the equipment needed thrugh wnership, brrwing sme frm ther crss cuntry ski clubs, brrwing/renting sme frm ther sprt grups in their cmmunity and/r brrwing sme frm Crss Cuntry BC/ZONE4. Each race requires an independent, secndary timing system that can prvide an accurate recrd f essential data regardless f peple, timing equipment r pwer failures. ZONE4, Crss Cuntry Canada's fficial race management sftware must be used in rder t meet the natinal frmat guidelines and t allw entry int the natinal pints system(s). 9. Awards fr athletes in all age categries frm Junir Bys and Girls thrugh t Masters Men and Wmen 60+ are the respnsibility f the hst club. Crss Cuntry BC will prvide stickers fr the back f the Teck medals identifying the event, year and award categry. 10. RACING LICENCE A licence is nt required. 11. RACE FORMATS AND TECHNIQUE In each zne there shuld be a mix f classic and free technique races. The hst clubs shuld wrk this ut amng themselves. It is imprtant t achieve the participatin benchmarks in the Teck spnsrship agreement with Crss Cuntry BC, s frmats that draw the mst skiers are preferred either mass starts r 15 sec interval starts. If race rganizers wish t use a race frmat that generally attracts a smaller field f cmpetitrs (individual sprints r team sprints), they require apprval frm Crss Cuntry BC. Interval start races shuld use 15 secnd interval starts. 12. AGE CATEGORIES Age categries fr skiers 14 and yunger are required, age categries fr skiers 15-19 are strngly recmmended, age categries fr skiers 20 and lder are ptinal. 13. RACE DISTANCES The distances belw reflect CCC s LTAD-aligned Cmpetitr Mdel fr reginal level, develping athletes. A develping athlete includes all age categries Junir M/W and yunger, The cre ntin f the LTAD cncept is that we d nt treat yunger and grwing athletes as mini-adults but rather that we recgnize the very specific needs f grwing skiers frm infancy t adulthd, needs that are als gender specific. The early seasn races (January) shuld be at the shrter end f the range prvided belw. Lnger distances shuld be used twards the end f the seasn (March). February races shuld be smewhere in between, and nt the max distance fr a given age categry. The fllwing distances are guidelines nly. CLUB AGGREGATE AWARD Club pints are accumulated frm race t race and a club aggregate is awarded t the club with the mst pints at the end f the final race. Pints fr the Club Aggregate will be awarded in each class as fllws: Fr Interval r Mass Start races, pints are earned fr results / participatin in an age categry (nt year f birth) 1st place = 7 pints 2nd place = 6 pints 3rd place = 5 pints 4th place = 4 pints 5th place = 3 pints Participatin (successful cmpletin f the designated cmpetitin curse) = 2 pints If there are less than five cmpetitrs in a categry, the pints will still begin at 7 pints fr 1 st place, 6 pints fr 2 nd place, etc. Pints are calculated fr individuals representing CCBC Nrthern Zne clubs nly. If ut-f-zne individuals finish in the tp five psitins, skip t the next individual frm the cast.
