DEPARTMENT 102 SECTION 1 4-H and VOCATIONAL DAIRY CATTLE Friday, August 3, 2018 10 a.m. Chair - Philip Courter - 570-660-6464 4-H and Vocational Dairy Cattle General Rules and Regulations: 1. 4-H and FFA members must be present and have charge of their animals at the time of judging. 2. Showmanship: The purpose of the show is to enable youth to have a positive, educational experience in the show ring. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the 4-H or FFA exhibitor to show his or her own animals. The only exceptions that will be allowed are: If sickness or physical injury after arriving at the show prevents the owner from showing his or her own animal(s). In the case of a preexisting injury or illness that prohibits an exhibitor from showing, a physician s excuse will be required. If the exhibitor has two animals in the same class or animals entered in a conflicting 4-H or FFA show. If an exhibitor finds it impossible to attend due to scholastic or military commitments. If this is the case, the 4-H Educator or FFA Advisor must provide written permission for the use of a substitute showman. Band, chorus, sports, and similar activities will not be considered justification for the use of a substitute showman. 3. Substitute Showmen If the use of a substitute showman is approved (see above), the substitute showman must be another Clinton County 4-H/FFA member who is of the same age as, or younger than, the exhibitor. 4. All animals must be owned or leased by the exhibitor. 5. All animals must comply with health rules (as stated in the current Clinton County Fair Circular). 6. Exhibitors will be expected to display or parade their animals as directed by the superintendent; to keep the stall(s) or pen(s) assigned without controversy; to ensure that their animals are presented in a clean and attractive manner at all times throughout the fair; and to cooperate with the department in every way to ensure the educational value of the competition. 7. Exhibitors of dairy animals must inform themselves as to when their animals will be judged. Cattle must be in the ring promptly on call. Failure to comply with the order renders exhibitors liable to be ruled out of competing. 8. Decorations with ribbons or ornaments previously won by the animal at a show will be prohibited until after the awards have been made in their respective classes by the judge. 9. Exhibitors must have animals listed for competition on the grounds between 7 a.m and 4 p.m on Monday, July 30, 2018. (All such animals shall remain on the premises until after the conclusion of the Junior Livestock Sale on Saturday, August 4, 2018.) 10. All exhibitors will be expected to keep the spaces they occupy in a clean and sanitary condition and to remove all their equipment promptly as the chair may direct. 11. All 4-H and FFA dairy entries must be registered with Penn State Extension using the official 4-H and FFA Dairy Cattle Registration Form. Registration 1

deadline is July 5, 2018. *Note that Open Dairy entries and fees are submitted to the Open Dairy Chair. 12. Exhibitors may show more than one animal per class. 13. All cattle must be registered. 14. Once an exhibitor s animals arrive at the Clinton County Fair, only immediate family or other Clinton County 4-H ers and volunteers may assist with restraint or handling of animals. Straw/bedding must be supplied by the exhibitor. 16. A pen/barn fee of $10 per exhibitor will be collected at check-in (payable by cash or check to Clinton County Fair Association).
