DOWN ON THE FARM: Earlier today, Class-A Delmarva CA Chance Sisco was named to the South Atlantic League All-Star team as the team s starting catcher Coming into today, Sisco, 19, leads the SAL in on-base percentage (.400) and ranks 2 nd in batting with a.335 average (138-412) Frederick OF Michael Burgess was named to the Carolina League All-Star team Burgess hit.315 with 15 homers, 32 doubles, four triples and 68 RBI in 83 games for the Keys before being promoted to Double-A Bowie on July 22. AMAZING ADAM: Adam Jones is the sixth player in team history with 50-or-more extra-base hits in at least four straight seasons, joining Cal Ripken, Jr. (six, 1982-87), Rafael Palmeiro (five, 1994-98), Nick Markakis (four, 2007-10), B.J. Surhoff (four, 1996-99), and Eddie Murray (four, 1977-80 and 1982-85) (STATS) With his next home run, Jones will become the first outfielder in O s history with four straight seasons of 25 or more home runs Frank Robinson holds the club record for outfielders with five different seasons of 25+ HR, but never did it in four straight seasons (1966-67, 69-71). PEARCING: Steve Pearce has hit safely in a career-high 10 straight games since August 17 (previous high: eight games, August 5-12, 2012) He is batting.341/.372/.756 (14-41) during the 10-game stretch with nine extra-base hits (five doubles and four home runs), nine runs scored, and five RBI. CRUZIN : Nelson Cruz set a career-high with his major league leading 34 th home run of the season on August 22 Cruz hit his 30 th HR on August 9, becoming the 19 th different Oriole with a 30-home run season (the 34 th total 30-homer season in club history) Cruz also became the 18 th different Oriole with a 30-homer, 20-double season Eddie Murray holds the club record with five seasons of 30+ HR and 20+ doubles. BIG HITTERS: Nelson Cruz leads the majors with 34 home runs in 2014 after Chris Davis led the majors in homers with 53 in 2013 According to STATS, if Cruz leads the majors this year, the Orioles will become just the fourth team since 1920 to have two different players win the home run title in back-to-back seasons The others were the 1936-37 Yankees (Lou Gehrig 49 and Joe DiMaggio 46), the 1987-88 Athletics (Mark McGwire 49 and Jose Canseco 42), and the 1993-94 Giants (Barry Bonds 46 and Matt Williams 43).
