FOR OUR 50 th ANNIVERSARY WE HAVE CHANGED OUR SCHOLARSHIP RULES!! Scholarship entrants are invited to perform a routine of their choice at the end of the eisteddfod. The scholarships will be judged on performance throughout the eisteddfod along with a final performance for the Adjudicator at the end of the competition. Repeats are allowed. See Rule 28 for more info. In addition to the above, a Scholarship for a Brent Street Summer Camp is on offer! A class will be run by the Adjudicator at the end of the eisteddfod. See Rule 29 for more info. Due to demand we are introducing impros this year! See Rule 25 Don t forget: Only 1 routine is required for the Entertainment Scholarships and repeats ARE allowed! Groups age for each group is based on the age of the oldest competitor as at 1 January this year. Age for solos remains as at the first day of the eisteddfod. We have Special Needs sections (solo & duo/trio any style). Repeats are allowed in National Character and Song & Dance Championships plus all 8 Years Championships. Once again we will be accepting direct deposit for entry fees. Details are included below, and on the entry form. 1. LODGING OF ENTRIES: All entries must be made in writing on the official entry form with a separate entry form required for each competitor. Entry forms are available with this syllabus, on our website or from the Festival Coordinator. Entries should be accompanied by the correct fees/payment receipt and posted OR emailed (please don t do both) to the Festival Coordinator. Entries can be paid by direct debit. Cheques and postal orders should be made payable to Lake Macquarie Festival of Dance. 2. DUO, TRIO OR QUARTET SECTIONS: We have a separate entry form for Duos, Trios and Quartets. To avoid confusion and errors, please use this separate entry form. 3. COMPETITORS AGE: SOLOS: The age of all competitors will be taken from the opening day of the Festival. GROUPS: The age for Group entries is based on the oldest competitor in each group as at the 1 st of January this year. 4. PROOF OF AGE: Each new competitor must provide Proof of Age to the Festival Coordinator before they dance for the first time. The Committee will keep a date of birth register for future reference. 5. RESPONSIBILITIES: It is the responsibility of the entrant s teacher or parent to list correct sections and championships on entry forms. The Festival Committee deems no responsibility for incorrect entries received. No refunds will be given. 6. ENTRY FEES: Scholarships $25.00 Brent Street Scholarship $20.00 Entertainment Scholarship $20.00 (includes Championships $18.00 adjudicator All Solo Sections $13.00 report) Duos/Trios/Quartets $7.00 per person Groups $23.00 per group 7. MINIMUM NUMBERS: Each section must have a minimum of three (3) Competitors. When a section fails to meet this requirement, it will be combined with a similar section. 8. PRIZES: In order for a first prize to be awarded, three (3) competitors must perform, six (6) for a second prize and nine (9) for a third. 9. IN ALL CHAMPIONSHIPS every competitor must appear in programme order or face disqualification. 10. Should a competitor break down in any Babies or Specially Restricted section, such competitor will be allowed to dance again at the discretion of the Adjudicator. NO REPEATS DUE TO BREAK DOWNS WILL BE ALLOWED IN AN OPEN SECTION, CHAMPIONSHIP OR SCHOLARSHIP. 11. STAGE CONTROL: All competitors, teachers and parents shall obey any reasonable directions by the Stage Manager or a member of the Festival Committee. Any competitor failing to comply with this rule shall be liable to disqualification. Note: Prompting from the wings will not be allowed except in Babies Sections. 12. POWERS OF THE COMMITTEE: the Festival Committee reserves the right to amend the programme, venue and/or date at any time in the event of unforeseen circumstances. The Committee also reserves the right to appoint a substitute adjudicator at any time.

13. NO-ONE WILL BE PERMITTED TO LEAVE THE HALL OR BE ADMITTED WHILE A COMPETITOR IS PERFORMING. Please respect the children performing. 14. PROTESTS: The Adjudicator s decision shall be final. Any protests or objections arising out of the decision, such as an alleged mistake in competitor s number or marks, the eligibility of the competitor, choice of any item or interpretation of rules, should be referred to the Committee. 15. Communication with the Adjudicator by teachers, parents or competitors during the competition is forbidden. Failure to comply with this rule may mean immediate disqualification. Do not approach the Adjudicator s desk at any time during the competition. 16. REPEATS are not allowed in any sections except for the Babies Sections where entrants can repeat in 6 Years & Under sections but NOT the 6 Years & Under Championship. There will also be no repetition of items in Championships EXCEPT FOR NATIONAL and SONG & DANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS and ALL 8 YEARS CHAMPIONSHIPS, where repeats are allowed. 17. CD playing equipment will be provided by the Festival Committee, however, each competitor must have a teacher or parent play the music for them. 18. COMPETITORS DANCE AT THEIR OWN RISK. NO RESPONSIBILITY WILL BE TAKEN BY THE COMMITTEE FOR ANY INJURY INCURRED. 19. When a competitor is not dancing on stage, tap shoes must be covered at all times. 20. NO PRIVATE VIDEO CAMERAS WILL BE ALLOWED AT THE FESTIVAL DUE TO COPYRIGHT AND PRIVACY LAWS. PROFESSIONAL VIDEO FACILITIES WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE THROUGHOUT THE FESTIVAL FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE. Please place your order before the section starts. 21. SONG AND DANCE SECTIONS: Music in these sections MUST NOT contain any voice over while the competitor is singing. 22. TEACHERS PASSES: the number of Teachers Passes available for each studio will be determined by the number of entries received. Teachers Passes will be available at the Festival and must be signed for upon the collection. Passes must be worn at all times. 23. PROGRAMMES: $10.00 posted. Please order on Entry Form. 24. PRESENTATION NIGHT will be held on the FINAL EVENING OF THE FESTIVAL. ALL SCHOLARSHIP AND SPECIAL AWARDS WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT THE PRESENTATION NIGHT. ALL RECIPIENTS MUST BE PRESENT TO RECEIVE THESE AWARDS. CHAMPIONSHIP WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED DURING THE FESTIVAL AND AWARDED THEIR CHAMPIONSHIP PLAQUES, BUT PERPETUAL TROPHIES AND CASH PRIZES WILL BE PRESENTED ON PRESENTATION NIGHT. 25. IMPROVISATION sections competitors are to wear plain coloured leotards. Section ages may be combined depending on entries.

26. DEFINITIONS: For the purpose of the Festival, the terms shall be defined as follows: Open Sections are available to all persons within the age limitations. Note: A win in a Babies Section does not affect their eligibility for any other section. Specially Restricted Sections are those confined to competitors who, prior to the closing date of entries, have not won a first prize at any age at any eisteddfod in a particular section. E.g. 1. A winner of a Slow Tap may still enter a Specially Restricted Waltz and Speed if not already won at any age. E.g. 2. A winner of a Classical may still enter a Specially Restricted Demi-Character if not already won at any age. 27. CHAMPIONSHIPS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Note: In all championship and scholarship sections, competitors cannot perform a dance, which has already been performed. (Excluding NATIONAL CHARACTER, SONG & DANCE AND ALL 8 YEARS CHAMPIONSHIPS where repeats are allowed). Ballet: A Classical and Demi to be performed in the Championship and TWO Open, Solo sections which must include one Open Classical to qualify. No Repeats excluding 8yrs Championship where repeats are allowed. Musical Comedy / Jazz: One routine in Championship and one Open, Solo Jazz/Musical Comedy section plus one other Open, Solo section to qualify. No Repeats excluding 8yrs Championship where repeats are allowed. Modern: One routine in Championship and one Open, Solo Modern Contemporary or Modern Lyrical section, plus one other Open, Solo section to qualify. No Repeats excluding 8yrs Championship where repeats are allowed. Song & Dance (Soft Shoe or Tap): One routine in Championship and one Open, Solo Song & Dance section plus one other Open, Solo section to qualify. Repeats allowed. Tap: A Slow & Speed to be performed in the Championship. The competitor must dance in TWO Open, Solo Tap sections to qualify (not including Song & Dance). No Repeats excluding 8yrs Championship where repeats are allowed. No stage props allowed in Tap Championships. National Character: One routine in Championship and one Open, Solo National Character section plus one other Open, Solo section to qualify. Repeats allowed. 6 Years and Under Championship: One routine any category no repeats. The competitor must enter and dance in one Solo section to qualify either Babies or 6 years sections. 28. SCHOLARSHIPS: SIX SCHOLARSHIPS WILL BE AWARDED IN BALLET, TAP & JAZZ/MODERN CATEGORIES IN BOTH JUNIOR AND SENIOR AGE GROUPS. The entry fee for each Scholarship is $25. The value of each scholarship will be determined by the number of entries. Winners will be announced at the Presentation Night (see condition 24).These Scholarships will be judged on the competitors performance throughout the Festival combined with a final performance at the end of the competition. Entrants are to perform one routine, of their choice within the category of the scholarship they have entered. Repeats allowed. The Adjudicator s decision is final. - Ballet scholarship entrants can perform either a classical or demi character. - Tap scholarship entrants can perform either a slow, speed, waltz, ensemble or straight tap. - Jazz/Modern scholarship entrants can perform either a Jazz, Musical Comedy, Hip Hop, Modern Lyrical or Modern Contemporary.

29. BRENT STREET SCHOLARSHIP Entry Fee $20.00 A scholarship for a Summer Camp at Brent Street is on offer. The Adjudicator will take a class at the end of the eisteddfod for all entrants which, combined with their performance throughout the competition, will determine the scholarship winner. This scholarship will be open to all competitors aged 8 and over. The Adjudicator s decision is final. 30. Jess Millington Senior Entertainment Scholarship $100 Entry Fee $20.00 AK Video Productions Junior Entertainment Scholarship - $100 Entry Fee $20.00 ONE DANCE, ANY STYLE JUDGED ON ENTERTAINMENT VALUE REPEATS ALLOWED Entertainment scholarships will be performed and awarded at the Presentation Night. 31. SPECIAL AWARDS: These awards will be announced at the Presentation Night and recipients must be present to receive these awards. NO ENTRY FEE IS REQUIRED. Julie Meaker Perpetual Trophy Point Score Tap & General Categories - awarded to the competitor gaining the highest point score in own age, open, solo sections in the Tap & General Categories. The point score will be tallied on the number of 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd placings. Sara Jiear Perpetual Trophy Point Score Ballet & General Categories awarded to the competitor gaining the highest point score in own age, open, solo sections in the Ballet & General Categories. The point score will be tallied on the number of 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd placings. Margo Kerr Memorial Trophy The Margo Kerr Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the competitor who, in the view of the Adjudicator, is the Most Promising Ballet Dancer at the Festival 12 Years and over. Les Griffith Memorial Trophy The Les Griffith Memorial Trophy will be awarded to a competitor who, in the view of the Adjudicator, is the Most Promising Tap Dancer at the Festival. Lily Jeffries Memorial Trophy The Lily Jeffries Memorial Trophy will be awarded to a Song & Dance competitor of the Adjudicator s choice. Mary Johnson Perpetual Trophy Awarded to the Most Promising Dancer, six years or under, of the Adjudicator s choice. Belmont Lantern Club Entertainment Awards Judged by the Adjudicator and awarded to the best all-round entertainer (Junior and Senior). Belmont Lantern Club Encouragement Awards Two ballet, two jazz and two tap awards will be awarded by the Adjudicator to six competitors from Specially Restricted sections who show potential. Gearing Family Blood, Sweat & Tears Perpetual Trophy Awarded to a competitor who, in the Adjudicators opinion, has consistently given all during the eisteddfod. Yvette Cox Tap Perpetual Trophy - A trophy will be awarded to a Tapper of the Adjudicators choice. Newcastle Dance Academy Perpetual Trophy A trophy will be awarded to the Most Promising Jazz Dancer (Senior) of the Adjudicators choice. Lings Trophies Perpetual Trophy A trophy will be awarded to the Most Promising Jazz Dancer (Junior) of the Adjudicators choice. Newcastle Dance Academy Perpetual Trophy Awarded to the Most Promising Modern/Contemporary Dancer (Senior) of the Adjudicators choice. Kicks Perpetual Trophy - Awarded to the Most Promising Modern/Contemporary Dancer (Junior) of the Adjudicators choice. Dianne Talbot Perpetual Trophy Awarded to the Most Outstanding Modern/Contemporary Dancer of the Adjudicators choice. Colleen Cox Perpetual Trophy Awarded to the Adjudicators choice of the Most Outstanding Group of the Day.

32. ADVERTISING: Advertisers wishing to appear in the Official Programme should contact the Coordinators as soon as possible. See attached form for advertising in the programme. 33. PERPETUAL TROPHY HOLDERS: We are asking for all Perpetual Trophies to be returned to the Festival on the first day of the Festival to enable us to ensure that all trophies are in order. PLEASE NOTE THAT IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO RETURN THE TROPHIES CLEAN AND UNBROKEN. (Please do not use harsh abrasives). Returning a trophy on the day of presentations is very unfair to the Committee. Your cooperation is appreciated in this matter.
