MEMO FROM THE BOARD THE DALLES COUNTRY CLUB PRESIDENT S REPORT FOR 2017 At the beginning of the year, there was a long list of items that needed to be addressed. I am happy to say that most have been addressed from making sure we front loaded food allowances to revising our chart of accounts. A lot of things will be discussed in committee reports. Today, I think the board is working well together and committed to finishing off the list. The commitment to correct course has shown that your board is definitely willing to work hard. Special kudos to Dave Link who came in late last year and has worked many hours helping the board understand where we are financially. What we have learned is that identifying roles and sticking to those areas of responsibilities helps the most in a board/management environment. The board had worked diligently on putting together a beginning budget which is realistic. Of course, it is a living document and we may have to make adjustments through out the year. Better communication is the answer and commitment to the end product has been the key. Meetings have run smoother, systems have been tightened and we have a better sense of where the club is both financially and physically. There is still a lot to do. Going forward, we will work with our new partner BBSI to set a Goal Setting work session and develop a realistic Business Plan which will be shared with the membership. The key elements will be to clarify job descriptions, expectations and accountability internally and to promote and market the club and to increase the over all financial strength of our organization. Obviously, we are in a very tight financial situation. Some of the keys will be to increase membership, keep the members we have, renew and strengthen our youth program, strengthen our tournament finances, stay ahead of course maintenance and increase income to expenses in the club house and pro shop and through such things as revising opportunities for open play and bench advertising. There may be other ideas that have yet to be explored. A wise woman once said to me, change occurs when someone discovers the next step. You never know who that person will be. I cannot say enough about the positive help and direction we have received from Kristi Dirks and Dayna Moody, our principle contacts at BBSI. They will help us work on such issues as safety, internal communication, club structure and fiscal competency. More involvement from club members on committees, more people volunteering and becoming active promoters of the club will be the key. There may be additional committees put together throughout this year which will provide opportunities for more members to get involved. Thank you for allowing me to be your President for the last year. I have had to learn much about the club and feel more confident I now understand how things work. With the help of board members, staff, committee members and BBSI, I am confident our report next year will show an improved operation, a stronger financial picture and a bright future. Members the board approved a dues incentive for members recruiting new members. Any member that signs up a new general or business member or a social member would receive a credit of one month s dues. The new member would be required to sign a one year agreement and first payment. Depending on type of membership the recruiting member would receive a credit of $165.00 or $35.00 off of the following months dues. Lets recruit new members. Any questions ask Amy Wilson, Rachel Miller, or Doug Hattenhauer. Currently the initiation fees are waived for new members ($800.00 savings). Current dues are $165.00 for general and $35.00 Social. The food assessment and irrigation assessment are extra ($100.00/quarter and $5.00/month). Who can sign up the most new members? Good Luck and thanks, -Doug Hattenhauer

WHAT S HAPPENING ON THE GOLF SIDE? MEN S SPRING KICK OFF! Saturday & Sunday, April 21st & 22nd Two-man best ball format (play your own ball, best net score of the two balls) Only $60 per TEAM, Special Event kicks off the tournament Friday night at 7pm - Sign up in the golf shop - If you would like to play but don t have a partner, let Amy know and she will match you up with someone fun! PLEASE CHECK IN THE GOLF SHOP BEFORE TEEING OFF! We are tracking rounds played for many important reasons! The only change in how you check in is letting the golf shop staff know how many are in your group. Part of the golf shops job is to manage the first tee and to communicate to the players anything that may be happening on the course that could affect you; fertilizing, spraying chemicals, maintenance projects or anything else. We can t guarantee a great experience if we don t know you re out there! SHAG BAGS in the club storage room are for borrowing to hit practice shots in the practice area. Players are responsible for picking up the balls they ve hit with the shag bags and returning the bags to the storage room. Please do not take balls from the shag bags for your own personal use on the course. 2017 MERCHANDISE There are some items left at blowout prices!! Check your golf shop to see what we have for you! 2018 Spring & Summer merchandise should be here by the end of the month! MISSING KEYS! We are missing the keys for carts numbered 5, 6 & 14. If you accidentally took them home with you, please slip them through the mail slot at the golf shop as soon as possible!
