Unfortunately, I wasn t able to create a scores page because surprisingly not all captains have turned in their game scores to Meghan. I know we are a little rusty on how this all works but who doesn t want to brag about their recent win so let s dust off the cobwebs and get back into the groove of kickball. The good news is that this little exercise has proven that a substantial portion of our division reads this funky little newsletter. At least the first page, may have to relocate...now in order to make it a little more fair I have revised the rules. Instead of the winner being the first person giving the correct answer, I will hold a 9:30 drawing at Spencer s of everyone who gives me the correct answer. I may change it yet again but let s see how this goes. Now on to the competition I have one, you have one. If you remove the first letter a bit remains. If you remove the second, bit still remains. After much trying you might be able to remove the third one also, but it remains. It dies hard! TX West Side Last Wednesday was TX West Side's first charity drive for Homes for Hounds, an animal rescue group in Fort Worth that focuses on hurt and troubled animals and places them with permanent homes. We will be doing another charity drive later in the season and we'll give you an opportunity to donate at the End of Season party. TX West Side is one of roughly 3200 WAKA divisions across the country every year. That's about 60,000 players a year. WAKA puts a large emphasis on community service and charity. As a WAKA representative, it is my job to make sure TX West Side players are active in donating what they can to our chosen charity. The division board spent a long time researching local charities before they determined that Homes for Hounds was the right match for our division. We are a group of animal lovers and it is a charity that doesn't get nearly enough local support. Division Rep Meghan Scott Wayward Please give what you can, no matter how small, during our next charity drive. It's as simple as going through your linen closet and getting a few bath towels that you don't use anymore. Or stopping by PetSmart on your way to the game to dig through their clearance toy bin. This little bit of effort on your part means so much for the people who run Homes for Hounds and the rescued dogs. Please consider giving $5 in cash if you don't have the time to grab something on their Wish List. A little goes a long way for our charity and for your karma. Wisdom Please remember that Veteran's Park does not allow outside food or alcoholic beverages inside the park, but I don't think there's a rule against the parking lot. Feel free to organize a little tailgate with your team for before your games, during a break in the schedule for your team, or even after the games. Saturday games are a break from the normal routine so feel free to make it an excuse to tailgate and have some extra fun!* *Refs and drivers must stay sober unless you are interested in seeing my "bad side". I usually try not to toot my own horn too many times but I was specifically told to put my b-day on the announcements page (by the bossy blonde on my team, Kelly). So here s to another year gone by for your GMOT editor. FYI-old jokes don t bother me. I hit 39 on Friday and am thankful of every day I have been blessed enough to share with each person I know. TX West Side Homes for Hounds Finding Homes for Hounds Before Their Time Is Up At The Pound! After reading of a recent dog seizure at a Montague County puppy mill, a group of friends became involved with the Humane Society of North Texas. Found were 496 dogs and puppies neglected, malnourished, and abused. A small group has volunteered to foster, rehab, and get medical care for some of the worst cases. We call our rescue organization Homes for Hounds. Each dog rescued deserves a FOREVER home where they will be loved, nurtured, and well taken care of for the rest of their lives. In the meantime, they are treated at our veterinarian. Each dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Email us at (jenny.kate.haskin@gmail.com) if you would like to know more about adoptable dogs. Ok, guys let me tell you straight up. Our donations were a little low Wednesday night. Homes for Hounds really needs our help and animal organizations often fall by the wayside during the holiday season. I challenge each of you to find it in your heart to get at least one item for the next drive. NEEDS: Cash or check: all proceeds go directly to veterinarian and will be used for the treatment and care of our dogs. Volume 2, Issue 6 Team Spotlight on Suck My Kick! By: Kelly Hathaway As this is Suck My Kick s first season of kickball, all team members are virgins to the sport. Led by sister and brother, Kate and Rhett Heartsill, they may be lacking in experience, but have a lot of special characteristics which should make them a formidable opponent. Some of these more interesting characteristics include: croquet player, polo champion, punch-maker, professional drinker, and finally, one competitive hot-air balloonist ( no seriously. ) The team s current record is 1-2, but they are most proud of game #2, their one win so far this season. More specifically, the team would like to call attention to MVP Rhett s impressive outfield performance during that game, in which he had to catch and roll on 2 fly kicks. According to Captain Kate, the team-members all LOVE BOOZIN and think that Spencer s in an awesome bar to visit before and after games. Team members hang out regularly, and Kate and Rhett almost always have one or more kickballers sleeping on their couch on Wednesday and Friday nights. The boys in particular hang out a lot; as Kate says, it is almost on a gay level. When asked if they had any messages for the rest of the division or any one team in particular they came out with only one DONKEY PUNCH SUCK MY KICK! Page 5
