1. MAJOR COMPETION RULES Entrants to all competitions must be Seniors Members. 1.1 Handicaps Following changes by CONGU to the maximum handicap allowable for men from 28 to 54 from the beginning of 2018, all members of the Seniors must play to their actual handicaps in any official club competition to allow the correct handicap adjustments to be made. However, the Committee has decided that any member with a handicap of above 28, will have their competition scores adjusted using a handicap of 28. This includes Knockouts and Winter Greensomes where any member whose handicap is above 28, will play off of a handicap of 28. 1.2 Seniors Challenge Cup 1. The Competition shall be held in September each year (unless an alternative date is deemed necessary by the Committee) and will be a medal played off the white tees. 2. Full handicap allowance. 3. All members may play on the day but only qualified members may win or, be placed in the competition. 4. To qualify a player must have played in at least 3 of the 8 Master Golfer rounds played during the year of the relevant Challenge Cup competition. 1.3 Master Golfer 1. The Master Golfer competition shall consist of 8 rounds, 4 medal and 4 Stableford. 2. One medal and one Stableford round played each month May to August, but subject to scheduling. 3. The Master Golfer score shall consist of each player s best 6 point scores from the 8 rounds, the 2 lowest being discarded. If 6 rounds or less are played then all will count. 6. If still equal then the Page 4 of 13 version 2.6 Author Stuart Morrison 12th November 2018

most second place finishes shall count and then so on down all the placings even below 8 th place if necessary, until a winner is found. 1.4 Singles and Pairs Knock-Out Match Play Competitions 1. All members enter as individuals. For the pairs competition members enter as individuals and are then paired together by a draw which will take place as part of the draw for the actual competition. For the Pairs competition, the draw will be made such that a high and a low handicap player will be paired. 2. All matches will be played off the white tees. 3. If a match is level after 18 holes then it shall be decided by sudden death extra holes with the player(s) entitled to receive strokes taking them at the appropriate holes as per the handicap allowance. 4. The committee shall decide final dates by which each round of the competitions must be played. But see the additional rules published at the time. 5. For the Singles competition the Full Handicap allowance applies and for the Pairs the Handicaps are calculated against the lowest handicapper who plays off scratch. The allowance for this is the difference to the scratch player. 1.5 Winter Greensomes Knock Out Match Play Competition 1. Members enter as individuals and are then paired together by a draw which will take place as part of the draw for the actual competition. The draw will be made such that a high and a low handicap player will be paired. 2. All games will be played off the white tees. 3. If a match is level after 18 holes then it shall be decided by sudden death extra holes with the pair entitled to receive strokes taking them at the appropriate holes as per the handicap allowance. 4. The committee shall decide final dates by which each round of the competitions must be played. But see the additional rules published at the time. 5. Each pair will play with a handicap calculated as, Lower handicap x 0.6 plus higher handicap x 0.4 1.6 Divisions for Monday Competitions Normally there will be two divisions for each competition held on a Monday. Division 1 will be for handicaps 0 to 18 and Division 2 for handicaps 19 to 28. However, if there are less than 40 players in the competition, then there will be only one Division. If there are less than 20 players, then the competition is null and void and any fees collected must be refunded. 2 FUN COMPETITIONS 2.1 Team Games Please note that all team games are best suited for teams of four players. If a team is reduced to three players some modification of the Rules is made, but cannot be Page 5 of 13 version 2.6 Author Stuart Morrison 12th November 2018

expected to satisfy every players application of fairness. The competitions should be entered with this understanding of the Rules. Where possible the Rules of Golf apply 2.1.1 Texas Scramble This is a team game for 4 players 1. All players hit a tee shot on every hole. 2. The team select one of the shots, subject to rule 6 below. 3. Remaining balls are picked up. 4. The player who hit the shot at 2 plays the second shot (with his ball as it lies) and the other players in his team also play a shot from the same position as directed below in 10. 5. The procedure in 2, 3 and 4 is repeated until the ball is holed. 6. Each team must use at least 4 tee shots from each team member. (For 3 balls 5 tee shots each). These restrictions are to prevent the driving being dominated by a long hitter Please note the following 7. The Handicap for the four ball and three ball teams is calculated by 1/10 of the total handicap. An allowance for the three balls is made after the game. The average is taken of the four balls and three balls separately. The difference between these averages is then added to the three ball scores. 8. This is a medal competition. The gross score for each hole to be recorded on the scorecard. Any team allowance is then deducted to find the net score. 9. The scorecard should show which players tee shot was selected for each hole. 10. When balls are played under rule 4 above a. On the fairway PLACE within 6 inches of the original ball b. In the rough DROP within one club length, but the ball must remain in the rough. c. In a bunker, PLACE in the same position as the original ball recreating as near as possible the same conditions as the original ball was in. d. On the green PLACE in the same position as the original ball. Care when putting out!! If a putt is just missed before other team members have had their turn do not be tempted to tap in. If you do, the shot must be counted and the remaining players lose their chance of achieving a lower score. Page 6 of 13 version 2.6 Author Stuart Morrison 12th November 2018

2.1.2 Progressive Stableford This is a team game for 4 players Normal Stableford scoring and handicaps apply The best two scores of 4 count on the first 6 holes(for 3 balls use all 3 scores) The best three scores of 4 on the next 6 holes (for 3 balls use all 3 scores) All scores on the last 6 holes 2.1.3 Stableford Waltz This a team game for 4 players Normal Stableford scoring and handicaps apply The best score counts on the first hole. The best 2 scores on the next hole. The best 3 count on the third hole. Then repeat, 123, 123, 123... There is always at least one score to discard unless the team is a three ball. 2.2 Pairs Games 2.2.1 Gruesomes Stroke play Competition. This is a pairs game and players will be drawn one from the high group and one from the low. The Gruesomes competition is played the same as a Greensomes. Both partners of the pair tee off, then the shot is chosen, and alternate shots played to putt out. The difference being that for Gruesomes the opponents choose which drive you will take. And you choose their drive. Of course if one of your opponents drive is OB you can choose that and force 3 off the tee. Handicap as for Greensomes Lower handicap x 0.6 plus higher handicap x 0.4 2.2.2 American Greensomes Stroke play Competition. This is a pairs competition played similar to a Greensomes. i.e. Both partners of the pair tee off, but then both partners play a second shot with their partner s ball then the best shot is chosen, and alternate shots played to putt out. Handicap as for Greensomes Lower handicap x 0.6 plus higher handicap x 0.4 2.3 Individuals Games 2.3.1 Stableford Multiplier Competition Rules This is an individual game Normal Stableford scoring and handicaps apply Score your normal Stableford scoring points for the hole On an even numbered hole halve your points to give your score On an odd numbered hole double your points to give your score Page 7 of 13 version 2.6 Author Stuart Morrison 12th November 2018

2.3.2 Bogie Match play Competition This is an individual game In a Bogie Competition you play against the course in match play. With no shots on a hole a birdie is a win, par is a half and a bogie a loss With 1 shot on a hole a par is a win, a bogie a half and a double bogie a loss With 2 shots on a hole a bogie is a win, double bogie a half a triple a loss! Record your strokes, and Score +1 for a win, 0 for a half, and -1 for a loss, and score all 18. To keep it moving, PICK UP, when you are out of shots i.e. if you can t make a half. 2.3.3 Blind Holes Stableford Competition This is an individual Stableford competition In the blind holes competition, BEFORE play commences, somebody impartial (one of the pros?) nominates modifications on the blind holes (normally 4) he chooses. For example On the 4th discount your score, on the 6th double it, on the 15th double it and on the 18th halve it. OR ignore the scores on the nominated holes. Any holes can be nominated and any conditions applied. Which holes are affected and the conditions applied are kept secret until the players come in, hence- blind holes. 2.3.4 Five Club Competition This competition is a normal Stableford but played with only five clubs. This can be any five clubs chosen by the competitor. If the putter is a chosen club then this counts as one of the five. All other rules of golf apply. But note: The number of clubs is restricted to five, the whole point of the competition. The penalty for carrying more than the specified number of clubs is two strokes for each hole at which the breach occurred, maximum penalty four strokes per round.
