GEORGIA golf The Georgia men s golf team will begin its quest for the program s third national title this week in the NCAA Championships at Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla. The national tournament is slated for Friday through Wednesday. Team and individual stroke play will take place Friday through Monday, with the top eight squads after 72 holes qualifying for match play. The match play quarterfinals and semifinals are slated for Tuesday and the championship match is scheduled for Wednesday. Our goal all season has been to win the national championship and now that we have this opportunity, that s our total focus, Georgia coach Chris Haack said. This is for all the marbles and it s the most important tournament of the season. Every stroke counts and we re going to leave it all out there. We ve had an up-and-down season, but if we can put it all together over the next week, it will be extremely gratifying. The Bulldogs, who are seeded 26th and are ranked 28th by Golfweek and 33rd by Golfstat, will tee off on Friday in 10-minute increments between 8:10 and 8:50 a.m. and on Saturday between 1:30 and 2:10 p.m. Georgia will be paired with UNLV and Houston in the first two rounds. Sunday s pairings will be determined by the 36-hole results. The Bulldogs will use a lineup of senior Mookie DeMoss, juniors Lee McCoy and Sepp Straka, sophomore Greyson Sigg, and freshman Zach Healy. McCoy leads the Bulldogs with a scoring average of 69.66 and has posted a schoolrecord-tying four victories this season. Sigg (72.63), Healy (72.90), Straka (72.94) and DeMoss (73.31) are separated by less than a stroke. After Thursday s opening round, the Bulldogs stood 12th at 19-over 307 and were 10 shots out of fifth place. But they bounced back on Friday with a 10-under 278 to jump to fifth and closed with a 3-under 285 on Saturday to come in fourth at 6-over 870. At one point on Saturday, the Bulldogs had climbed as high as second place. I really could not be prouder of our guys, Georgia coach Chris Haack said They showed tremendous resolve over the last two rounds and we can definitely carry that momentum into the NCAAs. Our goal has been to get to the NCAAs and go after another national title. But we knew we couldn t do that without closing strong here. We did just that, so here we are. We re excited about reaching another NCAAs. Under Haack, the Bulldogs have moved onto the NCAAs in five straight years and 17 of his 19 campaigns. Haack led the Bulldogs to the 1999 and 2005 national titles and to runnerup finishes in 2007 and 2011. Overall, this is Georgia s 46th berth in the NCAAs. Georgia Claimed NCAA Titles In 1999 And 2005 The Bulldogs boast two NCAA team titles in their history. The squad of Ryuji Imada, Nick Cassini, Michael Morrison, Jeremy Parrott and Mark Northey claimed the 1999 national championship at Hazeltine Golf Club. The 2005 team of Kevin Kisner, Richard Scott, Brendon Todd, Chris Kirk and David Denham snared the national championship at Caves Valley Golf Club. The 2007 and 2011 Georgia teams each came in second. In 1946, George Hamer claimed medalist honors at the NCAAs the only Bulldog to accomplish that feat. Imada and Kirk were NCAA runners-up. The Golf Channel To Televise NCAAs The Golf Channel will air live coverage from Monday s stroke-play final round at 4 p.m., Tuesday s match-play quarterfinals at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday s match-play semifinals at 3:30 p.m. and Wednesday s match-play finals at 3 p.m. In addition, the Golf Channel will be on-site beginning on Sunday to provide coverage on Golf Central, Morning Drive and GolfChannel.com. Live scoring and tee times for the NCAAs also can be found at Golfstat.com and NCAA.com. Bulldogs Rally In NCAA San Diego Regional The Bulldogs qualified for the NCAAs by placing fourth in the San Diego Regional a placement that seemed unlikely after the first round at The Farms Golf Club. Conference Calls For Bulldogs Junior Lee McCoy was named First-Team All-Southeastern Conference in voting by the league s coaches. Senior Nicholas Reach was placed on the SEC Community Service Team. Georgia Has Notched Three Wins This Season The Bulldogs have hoisted a trophy three times this year after winning The Carmel Cup in August, the Puerto Rico Classic in February and the Southern Intercollegiate in March. Georgia also has come in second three times, and third, fourth and fifth once each. On the flip side, the Bulldogs came in 10th, 14th and 15th in three of their other events. We ve had a decent up-and-down year and hopefully we ll

NCAA Championships Notes get off to a little better start down there, sophomore Greyson Sigg said. I think it will help that a lot of our rivals are there and we ve seen a lot of these teams all year and we ve beaten a lot of these teams all year, too. Haack Chosen For Georgia Golf Hall Of Fame Chris Haack has been chosen for induction into the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame, according to an announcement by the Georgia State Golf Association. The induction banquet will take place Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at the Atlanta Athletic Club. I m proud that we can bring this type of recognition to our school and our program, Haack said. It s humbling to enter a hall of fame, especially when you see the caliber of men and women already in there. Georgia Golf had a solid foundation built by men and women like Howell Hollis, Dick Copas, Liz Murphey and Beans Kelly, and I ve just tried to be a good steward of it. We as coaches are only as successful as our players and I ve been lucky enough to coach some pretty special guys. I just appreciate them bringing me along for the ride. Haack will be the first collegiate coach inducted into the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame. He has led the Bulldogs to a school-record 56 tournament victories, including the 1999 and 2005 national championships and seven SEC titles. Haack was chosen as the National Coach of the Year in 1999 and 2005 and earned SEC Coach of the Year honors in 1998, 2000, 2006 and 2010. Haack was inducted into the Golf Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame in December of 2012, joining Georgia predecessors Hollis and Copas. PGA Tour? How About UGA Tour? The Bulldogs have been dominant on the PGA Tour the last two seasons, most recently punctuated by Chris Kirk s win in the Crowne Plaza Invitational and Kevin Kisner s runner-up efforts in the RBC Heritage and the Players Championship. Bubba Watson claimed the World Golf Championships- HSBC Champions title last November to open the 2014-15 season. Following the Crowne Plaza Invitational, Georgia s alums have rolled up $13 million in earnings (with UNLV second with $6.8 million, Arizona State third with $6.4 million, Oklahoma State fourth with $6.3 million and Texas with $6.1 million). Watson, Kirk and Kisner are all ranked in the top 20 on the money list and in the FedExCup Standings. The Bulldogs on Tour to a man credit Coach Chris Haack s system of having the players qualify each week to make the Georgia lineup for events. Pretty much every day while they were here, we had them in a pressure cooker and had them in situations where they were always having to perform, Haack said. They really never had a free ride into playing. They were always very used to the competition, and at some point they learned how to handle it. In some form or fashion, they embraced that, and it s helped them be more successful.
