1 2016 RULES FOR GRADE 7 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT *** Games with three/four teams in a pool on Monday will be 24 minutes stop time with 6 shifts of 4 minutes each (no overtime). This will also be the length of games for the semi-finals and finals on Tuesday & Wednesday. ***Games with two teams in a pool on Monday will be a regular game format of 36 minutes of stop time with 9 shifts of 4 minutes each (no overtime). * Each team is allowed one 30-second time out per half (2 in total) *** It has been agreed that there will NOT be a 15 player minimum limit however, it is strongly encouraged that teams do their best to encourage participation to fill their roster to 15. ***For teams that carry less than 15 players, the epectation is that coaches will do their best to ensure equal playing time for all players. ***For teams that carry eactly 15 players, the epectation is that coaches will set their three shifts 1, 2, 3 and play them in that order during both the first and second halves of the game. ***Please remember that the purpose of the tournament is to allow as many players as possible to participate in the district tournament. The CMSAA code of conduct is to be adhered to at all times. Poor sportsmanship and gamesmanship are not to be tolerated. ***Players intentionally fouling who appear not to be playing the ball (in an attempt to stop the clock or waste time) shall be whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct. The clock will be stopped, two foul shots will be taken by a player of the opposing team and the opposing team will in-bound the ball at the centre line following the free throws. Flagrant and technical fouls are to be penalized in the same way. I hope it goes without saying that no coaches would encourage or allow this type of behaviour.
2 ***On Monday, Feb. 29th, during the round-robin portion of the tournament, any game that ends in a tie remains a tie (no overtime) and is entered as such in the standings (one point for each team). In the case of a tie between teams in the standings after the roundrobin on Monday, here is the tie-breaking procedure: If all three teams are tied, proceed to tie-breaker # 2. 1) Head to Head...the winner between the two tied teams 2) Point differential (total pts. scored minus total pts. against) 3) Total points scored 4) Total points against 5) Coin toss ***On Tuesday, March 1 st & 2nd, for the semi-finals and finals, the same rules as listed above apply, ecept in the case of a game that ends regulation play in a tie. In this case, overtime will be played. Overtime will consist of 6 minutes of play, three 2-minute shifts of stop time. Teams are to play their three shifts in the same order in which they played the earlier shifts in the game. Please try to stay on schedule as much as possible. Feel free to shorten the warm-up and half time if necessary. I will send out Tuesday's finals schedule on Monday evening. Host schools, please send me the results as soon as possible after play is completed on Monday. If you have any questions or concerns, please call or email. Thanks. Jill Vincent (jvincent@sd43.bc.ca)
