Carolinas Chapter Short Wing Piper News May, 2010 Volume 21, Number 5 May 8, 2010 CSWPC Meeting at Person County Airport (KTDF) Roxboro, NC. VAA Chapter 3 Spring Vintage Fly-in. Meet at 11:30 AM at Steve Culler's Tri-Pacer N2311P Bring tie-downs. See http://vaa3.org for more information Left to Right: Glenn Houston, Ryan, Brandy & Andrew Montambo, Reggie Ballard, Lenora Teaff, Kira Montambo, Bill Houston, Jim Page, Jim Link, Tommie Tatum, Dale Holder, Hassel Handy and Steve Culler. Photo by Marshall Teaff April CSWPC meeting By Steve Culler It was a beautiful day for a flight and as I thoroughly checked over my PA-22 I thought how fortunate I was to be able to travel in my airplane to just about anywhere at anytime. Today our monthly meeting was to be in Bennettsville SC at one of our favorite barbeque restaurants. Stanton s BBQ is located adjacent to a beautiful grass strip and I always enjoy landing on grass as it makes my landings so much smoother. Now, the only problem I have with grass strips is that most of the time I cannot find them, as they look like all the neighboring green fields. Even with GPS I have my troubles, but today I found the field to be just where I thought it would be. On the ground there were already PA-22s of all types: Colts, Pacers and Tri-Pacers. Stanton s is pilot friendly with a separate room for pilots and even a closed circuit camera focused on the runway so we can watch take offs and landings while we enjoy our meal. By lunch we had 7 planes on the ground and 15 people gathered around the tables filled with a variety of delicious meals. I would like to thank the following people for attending and enjoying the day. Lenora & Marshall Teaff from Huntersville, Reggie Ballard from Mt. Holly, the Montambo family; Ryan, Brandy, Andrew & Kira from Mooresville, Bill Houston of Ramseur along with his brother Glenn from La Grange (they are heading to Sun N Fun next week), from across our northern border Hassel Handy from Critz, VA. & guest Tommie Tatum from nearby Stuart VA, Jim Page & Jim Link from the Raleigh area. I flew in from Winston-Salem with my guest Dale Holder from nearby King. It was great to see all of you and I appreciate the efforts made to come and be with us on this beautiful day. Shortwings at Stanton's BBQ strip.

One disappointment that I will mention is that we did not have anyone attending from South Carolina. This is the Carolinas chapter of the SWPC and I would like to make sure that all South Carolina members are welcome to attend. I also have to mention that Roger Hawkins was not in attendance; Roger is one of our most regular attendees and I just want to say that we all missed you. See you next month. And I say that to all of you, see you next month and thank you to the ones that have brought guests and I hope that you will continue to take guests along with you and share the joys of Shortwing flying. May is a busy month in our area for fly-ins so check our calendar in this newsletter and attend as many as you can. Flying is good for your airplane and you, so take advantage of the good weather and go fly.
