Welcome to the 2019 Golf Season! New for 2019, we have separated Junior Instruction Clinics from our unlimited play Golf Club Memberships. We hope that you see value in each and that the Juniors sign up for both, but it is not mandatory. The Junior Instruction clinics are now available on most days of the week, instead of only Sundays. We had heard from many parents that Sundays didn t work for them and hope that by offering many more options we see lots of familiar faces and some new ones too. Perhaps the biggest improvement for 2019, and one that the instructors have wanted to implement for several years, is that group sizes will max out at 8 kids. The instructors know this will help the kids to improve and enjoy the game more. 2019 Equipment For Juniors that don t own equipment, the Pro Shop has teaching clubs that kids can use during their lessons. The Pro Shop also has a number of sets of varying lengths that Juniors can take on to the course free of charge. For kids playing and practicing often we suggest owning their own equipment. It can be more reasonable than you might think with a Trade In/Trade Up program, free used golf balls and no real need for footwear until kids become teenagers and need a more stable platform to torque from. Storey Creek Pro Shop proudly offers Junior sets from: US Kids Callaway Cobra Ping TaylorMade Wilson These sets range in: Length (dramatically), Weight, Handle width, Set composition, Shaft flex & Cost They are designed to help your child learn golf more effectively and have FUN doing so. Our favourite is US Kids. They are the least expensive and change in characteristics the most often. How equipment purchases work for kids enrolled in the Junior Program: If you have purchased a new set from the Pro Shop in the last twelve months we have recorded it. As long as the equipment is in good condition, we will give you a 50% credit against the purchase of another new set. If you have an older set, we ll offer you fair market price for it against the purchase of a new or used set. It is a good idea to come and see the Professional staff before the Instruction Program begins to ascertain whether or not your child has the correct equipment to help rather than hinder their progress. We have a good selection of new and used Junior clubs at most times of the year, although Used equipment inventory will peak around the start of our Junior Program in April.
Junior Coordinators Steven MacPherson Head Professional storeycreekproshop@telus.net Adam Haddad Assistant Professional adamhaddadgolf@gmail.com Member Volunteers The program couldn t be the success it is without the many hours of work that the following Members collectively contribute. If you get a chance, please take the time to thank: Gerry Gillis, Barb Hughes, Ray Hughes, Cathy McCartney, Betty Campbell, Jonah Shankar, Larry Purpur 2018 Highlights There were many highlights from the Junior Program over the last year. The important ones for us are captured in the moment a ball flies high and far and a child spins around to see if their parent noticed the amazing shot, often with a grin from ear to ear. For the second straight year the Girls Golfer of the Year for Zone 6 (Vancouver Island North of Victoria) was won by a Storey Creek Junior Member. Dana Smith won the Girls award for the second straight year. Congratulations to Dana! I m sure she is going to win a few more in her junior days. I also loved seeing so many families bringing their Junior members out to the course this Season. For those that were trying the golf course for the first time Thank You! I hope you had fun and will continue to come out and support Storey Creek.
