INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS GAME NOTES GAME #27 / Home Game #9 Buffalo Bisons (16-10) at Indianapolis Indians (13-13) Thursday, May 6, 2010 -- First Pitch @ 7:00 p.m. EDT Victory Field -- Indianapolis, Indiana Bisons LHP Pat Misch (2-0, 4.13 ERA) vs. Indians RHP Brad Lincoln (2-1, 4.76 ERA) -------------- TONIGHT S TRIBE STARTER: Tonight s probable starting pitcher for Indianapolis, Brad Lincoln, looks to rebound from a rough six-inning, six-run outing on April 30 against the Pawtucket Red Sox Prior to his last appearance, Lincoln had logged three consecutive quality starts, during which time the right-hander posted a 2-1 record and 1.89 ERA (4 ER in 19.0 IP) to go along with 11 strikeouts and just four walks This season, Lincoln has gotten stronger the deeper he has worked into games, as he has posted a 0.00 ERA (0 ER in 9.0 IP) and has struck out eight batters while allowing just three total hits in the fifth inning and beyond Also, the Texas native has posted sub-.200 batting averages against when pitching with runners on with two outs (.167, 3-for-18), runners in scoring position with two outs (.182, 2-for-11) and when the opposing batter is leading off and inning (.179, 5-for-28) Lincoln has yet to face the Buffalo Bisons in his Triple-A career. TONIGHT S OPPOSING STARTER: Set to oppose Lincoln in tonight s contest is Bisons starter Pat Misch, who enters the game with a 2-0 record and a 4.13 ERA in five starts (13 ER in 28.1 IP) In his last start on April 30 against the Durham Bulls, Misch earned the victory after allowing six runs (five earned) and eight hits in five innings of work The left-hander has struggled against right-handed batters in 2010, allowing a.333 batting average against (26-for-78), while giving up eight extra-base hits, including all three home runs he has allowed this season Misch hasn t fared much better when facing the first batter of an inning (.346, 9-for-26) or with the bases empty (.339, 21-for-62) Like his counterpart Lincoln, Misch has yet to square off against his opponent this evening. ALVAREZ COMES ALIVE: 3B Pedro Alvarez has driven in at least one run in each of the Indians last five games (April 30 to May 4), while also posting three multi-hit and three multi-rbi efforts during that stretch... Overall, Alvarez is batting.421 (8-for-19) with two home runs and 10 total RBI during his five-game offensive outburst The third baseman s RBI total ranks second to Rochester s Dustin Martin for the most in the International League during the five-game stretch... The Pittsburgh Pirates No. 1 overall prospect (according to Baseball America) also continues to come through in the clutch for the Tribe this season as he is batting.421 (8-for-19) with three home runs and 14 RBI with runners on and two outs and is batting a ridiculous.521 (6-for-11) with 3 home runs and 13 RBI with runners in scoring position and two outs. ROAD WARRIORS: The Indians recently completed a 10-game road trip during which time they posted a 7-3 record... The seven wins were the most for the Tribe since they went 7-5 on a 12-game road trip from May 17 to May 28 in 2005... Overall the Indians are 10-8 on the road this season with their 10 wins tied with Durham and Oklahoma City for the most road wins in all of Triple-A baseball and tied for third with several teams for the most road victories in all of Minor League Baseball. LEADING THE WAY: Tribe CF Jose Tabata has reached base and scored to lead-off the game in each of the last five contests in which he has played and is now batting.382 (13-for-34) when he leads off an inning... Before his five-game lead-off streak, Tabata struggled in the first inning as he went just 1-for-14 with two walks in the 16 contest in which he led-off the game for the Indians... Overall the Indians as a team have scored in the first inning in six of their last seven games after having only scored two times in the 19 games prior... Indianapolis also scored eight of their 12 total first inning tallies during their recent 7-3 road trip and are now 5-3 when they score in the first inning and 12-7 when they score first. DYNAMIC DUOS: Indianpolis and Buffalo feature four of the top offensive bats in the International League this season... For the Tribe, CF Jose Tabata and INF/OF Neil Walker have combined for 66 hits, 32 runs, six home runs, 29 RBI, 23 walks and 20 stolen bases in 48 games played, while for the Bisons INF Mike Hessman and INF/OF Chris Carter have combined for 59 hits, 29 runs, 12 home runs, 45 RBI and 15 walks in 49 games played... Tabata is currently tied for the most hits (35) and steals (12) in all of Triple-A baseball and has already collected 11 multi-hit games this season, which is tied for the second highest total in the IL... On the other side Hessman leads all of Triple-A baseball with 28 RBI and is tied for second with eight home runs... Overall one of the four players is ranked in the top 10 in the IL in every offensive catgeory except for runs, walks and on-base percentage. TAKING ON THE TRIBE: Buffalo INF Mike Hessman has played 108 games against the Indians over his eight seasons in the International League... In his career Hessman has hit.231 (86-for-372) with 51 runs, 26 doubles, 17 home runs, 57 RBI, 44 walks and 118 strikeouts over his 108 games played against Indianapolis. SCINTILLATING SOUTHPAWS: Since the season began, the Indians have added three left handed relievers to their bullpen: Wil Ledezma, Corey Hamman and Justin Thomas... The trio has combined for a 1-1 record, four saves, a 1.90 ERA (5 ER in 23.2 IP), six walks and 25 strikeouts over 17 appearances... Ledezma has earned a save in three of the Tribe s last four victories and has yet to allow a run over his 5.2 innings of work out of the Indians bullpen this season... Including a four inning, one hit, six strikeout save against Pawtucket on April 27, Thomas continues to lead the Tribe with an 11-to-1 strikeout to walk ratio, while Hamman, who has posted a 2.57 ERA on the season also turned in a four inning relief appearance of his own on April 26 at Louisville.
