Note from the Director Who doesn't like to celebrate? We are ready to celebrate 25 years of Powerball this month at the Lottery! In my column last month, I mentioned we would be providing more history about Powerball and the celebrations we have planned. In February of 1988, members of the Multi-State Lottery Association held the first draw for Lotto America. At that time, 6 states and the District of Columbia were the only members. Wisconsin joined in 1989. Lotto America continued sales with 14 states and DC participating until the last draw on April 18, 1992. On April 19, 1992, sales for the new Powerball game began, with the first draw on April 22, 1992. This game allowed players to choose 5 of 45 and 1 of 45 numbers for a jackpot that started at $2 million. Through the years participating states have grown, matrices have changed, cross selling of Powerball and Mega Millions began and jackpots have grown. Here are just a few of the record jackpots: Cindy Polzin Lottery Director 2 o 10/19/02 $340 Million jackpot won in Oregon o 2/18/06 $365 Million jackpot won in Nebraska o 11/28/12 $587.5 Million jackpot won in Arizona and Missouri o 5/18/13 $590.5 Million jackpot won in Florida o 1/13/16 $1.586 Billion jackpot won in California, Florida, and Tennessee o Even though it was not a "record", we can't forget the $208 Million jackpot won by the "100 Miracles" from Sargento Cheese on August 5, 2006, right here in our own great State! Powerball sales make up approximately 17% of overall Lottery sales which contributes to Property Tax Relief for Wisconsin home owners. We will be celebrating up in Green Bay at the Wisconsin Petroleum Marketers & Convenience Store Association on April 11-12, in Madison at the Spring Badger on April 21 and at Miller Park as our own Milwaukee Brewers take on the St. Louis Cardinals on April 22. Join us in the celebrations if you can! Make sure to read more about Powerball and Wisconsin's winners in this edition of The Connection. 3 G3 Up Nort N4111 Cty S Pound, WI 54161 Owners "Dutch" and Jerry Gwindt "Fuel up your car and fuel up your stomach" is the motto of our April Retailer of the Month, G3 Up Nort. This convenience store with a restaurant is located in Marinette County in the Town of Beaver with a Village of Pound mailing address. The "G3" comes from the three members of the Gwindt family who own and operate the business Jerry, Delilah(Dutch) and their daughter Gina. Behind the convenience store, about half mile, is Gwidt Farms where they raise beef cattle which is served at the restaurant. The restaurant doors open at 5:00 am and it doesn't take long before the 12 tables start filling up. According to Dutch, they have the best cook in the area (Michelle) and she loves working in the cleanest kitchen around (according to their state inspector). At lunch their most popular item is the hamburgers because the diners all know where the beef comes from. At dinner time, its meat and potatoes or even prime rib or a homemade pizza. Let's not forget about Lottery! G3 Up Nort carries 19 facings of scratch tickets. Their most popular scratch tickets are anything in the $5 price point followed by the $1's and $2's. They have been steadily growing their sales over last few years and patiently waiting for a player to hit a big jackpot. They recently had a couple $500 winners from the $1,000 Bankroll and Cash Extravaganza tickets. This is a popular recreational area of the State, with six lakes within a five mile radius along with various snowmobile and ATV trails. When you're in the area, be sure to stop at G3 Up Nort and fuel up your car and your stomach! Pound is located in the northern part of WI, right off of US Hwy 141.
