I have got this great spot that I like to go to. It s a long walk away from my place. I like to go there to be by myself. I go through a park and down four roads to get there. I also have to go down a rocky cliff at the beach. 4

It is a little cave. It is dark. It is cool. The walls are all rock. I am the only one that knows about it. It s my secret. 5

One day I had a big fight with my Mum so I ran away from home. I packed some clothes in a bag. I got some food to take with me. All I could find were some sausages. Off I went to my special place. I walked and walked. I went through the park. I went down four roads. 6

I climbed down the rocky cliff face. I call this place my secret cave. I felt safe when I got there. I did not want to go home. It started to get cold. I lit a fire to keep warm. I cooked my sausages on the fire. 7

It was great fun but it started to get colder. I was getting very cold. I didn t bring a blanket. 8

I thought Mum and Dad would be looking for me. I thought they would be mad with me. 9

10 It just got colder and colder. A bat swooped down at me. I couldn t stand it any longer. I grabbed my stuff and went back home.

When I got home everyone had been looking for me. They were mad. They were angry. They had missed me. They asked me where I had been. 11

12 I didn t tell them about my secret cave but I was happy to be home safely in my warm bed.

14 I like to go fishing. I go fishing on the weekends and on holidays. I go fishing with my Dad to lots of different places.

We go fishing at a river not far away from where we live. We stand on the bank and throw in our lines. We try to catch a Perch or any other fish. 15

16 Sometimes we go fishing at the end of a jetty. We chuck in our lines and sit down and wait for the fish to bite. You can feel a little tug on the line and then you lift the rod and wind it in.

Sometimes we go down to a creek and put in a crab pot. It s called crabbing. We go back later to see if we have got any crabs. If there are some in the pot we have to check them. You can only keep the males and they have to be big enough to keep. 17

Sometimes we go surf fishing. We go down to the surf beach with a big surf rod. Dad helps me put my line in. He has to cast it right out into the water. We get our feet wet. When a wave comes in the water goes up our legs. We have to watch out for the big waves. They can knock you over. 18

The fishing I like to do the most is going out to sea in our tinny (a tinny is a small tin boat). We pack our lunch, drinks, hats and sunscreen. We get out the fishing gear. We take rods, a hand line, hooks, sinkers, lures and bait. We also take a net to bring in the bigger fish. 19

We put our tinny in the water at the boat ramp. We go out to where we think the fish are going to bite. When we get to a good spot we bait up our hooks and drop our lines into the water. We sit and wait to see who gets the first bite. 20

One day I got a really big fish. It was a huge fish. It took a long time to bring him in. It was pulling so much it pulled the boat along. I got it to the top of the water. Dad helped get him into the net to make sure that he didn t get away. It was a huge Snapper. It was 72 centimetres long. It was a monster! 21

I took it home and the family had him for tea. Dad said that he had a bigger fish on his line but it got away. I m not sure if he did. There is always the one that gets away....fishing is great fun. Only keep the fish that you need. Let a fish go if you already have enough to eat. 22

Lost Island Words to talk about 1. bottle 4. boat 2. island 5. motor 3. anchor 6. heroes RR: 14 Words: 424 Theme: Adventures Genre/text type: Fictional Narrative Word Study: or, er/est endings Writing: Procedural Instructions 23

I was walking along on the sand with my best friend Sam. We were at the beach that we always go to on the weekends. We could both see something bobbing up and down in the water. 24

It looked like a bottle. We walked into the water to see what it was. Yes, it was a bottle. Sam said, What is that inside the bottle? It looks like a note, I said. Sam bent down and picked up the bottle. It had a cork in it. He pulled out the cork. 25

I pulled out the note. What does it say? asked Sam. Help! We are lost. Our boat sank. We are on a little island. 26

I said to Sam, Let s go and find them. I know about a little island out there. Not many people know about this island. It s not too far away. 27

28 We got into our boat. Sam pulled up the anchor. I started the motor and off we went.

We went as fast as we could. I can t see any island, said Sam. I know there s one out here somewhere, I said. We saw a speck of land a long way away. As we got closer it got bigger. It was the little island I knew about. 29

Sam said, I can see some kids waving on the sand. We went up onto the beach. There were two boys and a girl. They were so happy to see us. They said that they had been there for two days. We had to make a little hut on the beach to keep the sun off us, the girl said. 30

We even had to sleep in it last night, said one of the boys. We have been waiting for someone to come and find us. We haven t had much to eat just some fish, said the girl. 31

Sam said, Come on, get in our boat and we ll take you back home. On the way home they told us how they came to be on the island. They had hit a rock not far from the island in their boat. It made a hole in the bottom and it sank. We had to swim to the island, said the girl. We made a campfire to keep warm. 32

We took them home. Everyone was happy to see them back. Many people had been looking for them. 33

34 No one had looked on the little island because they didn t know about it. Their Dad said, Thank you so much. You are both heroes!...we didn t think so.

T-Rex is After Me Words to talk about 1. dinosaur 4. weird 2. huge 5. sounds 3. fronds 6. hungry RR: 15 Words: 299 Theme: Adventures Genre/text type: Fictional Narrative Word Study: ou, capitals for proper nouns Writing: Narrative- Creature After Me 35

36 I saw a big footprint on the ground. It was huge. It was much bigger than me. I didn t feel safe. I knew I had to find somewhere to hide. But where?

There were lots of trees around. The trees were not the same as any of the trees I had seen before. They were from some other time. Nothing was the same. The plants looked like the ones I had seen in dinosaur books. They were big and really green with huge fronds. 37

38 I could hear all sorts of weird sounds. I was scared, really scared.

I felt the ground shake. Bang, bang! It shook like something big was coming my way. If I was in dinosaur time that meant that there was a huge one somewhere. What could I do? 39

The ground was shaking more and more. I fell down. I looked up. There it was! A giant T-Rex and he saw me. 40

I started running like mad. I knew the T-Rex was a meat eater and that he would love to eat me for his dinner. I ran faster and faster. T-Rex was catching up. I screamed as I ran. I was too young to die. I was all puffed out trying to get away. 41

42 I looked back. T-Rex s eyes were popping out of his head. He looked hungry. His arm swung down and picked me up.

I screamed even louder. I waved my arms and twisted my body to try to free myself. It was no good. He opened his mouth. He had huge teeth. I closed my eyes and screamed again. 43

I opened my eyes and Dad said, What s the matter? I was in my bed at home. It was only a dream. I was alive and everything was OK....Boy was I glad! 44
