CCU scored the game s first 16 points, led by 20 at halftime and by as many as 41 (84-43). Everyone that dressed saw action in the game. The Chants had their best game of the young season at the free throw line where they hit 20 of the 25 attempts for 80 percent. One problem that has plagued CCU since the start of the season has been turnovers and once again the Chants did not take care of the ball as they committed a season-high 18. For the second time this season CCU out shot its opponent...against Coppin CCU shot 46 percent compared to 27 for the Eagles. Up Next The Chanticleers will now embark on their longest road trip of the season... CCU will fly to Utah Thursday where they will play at Brigham Young Saturday, and then fly to Las Vegas and play Southern Utah and once that game is over, the Chants will take a cross-country flight back to North Carolina where they will face the Atlantic Coast Conference s Wake Forest November 23rd...In all the Chants will travel over 5,000 miles during the seven day, three-game road trip. CCU Will Play Host This Coastal will host 17 games this season as part of its 31-game season...eight of those contests will be pre-conference games with the Chanticleers hosting a five-game homestand Nov. 29-Dec. 10...Along with Alabama, CCU will play another SEC member when they travel to Auburn Dec. 15. The Series vs. Brigham Young University This is the first time these two teams have faced each other. Night for Newcomers It is still early in the season, but several newcomers had career-nights in Wednesday s win over Coppin State. Joseph Williams-Powell hit double digit scoring in only his third game with CCU...He finished the game with 13 points and also had seven rebounds -- both career highs. Jaylen Shaw also set a career-high with his eight points. Artur Labinowitch hit two three point field goals for his first made field goals of the season and added a free throw to finish with seven points. Demario Beck hit four field goals and three of those were threes...he finished with his best in points with 12. Michel Enanga made his 2016-17 debut after missing the first two games with injuries and Josh Peterson made his first game appearance as well. Shaw Back in Starting Lineup Jaylen Shaw did not start the first two games of the season, but was back in the starting lineup against Coppin State. He responded with a season-high 13 points on four-of-six shooting and hit one of his two three point field goals and all four of his free throws. Shaw also had a game-high five assists. Playing Against The Big Boys Since the 2010-11 season Coastal Carolina has played 16 contests against Power 5 Conference schools. Coastal is 5-12 in those contests with a pair of wins over both LSU and Clemson along with a win at Auburn. Coastal continued its run of play against Power 5 Conference schools last season as the Chanticleers welcomed Auburn to Conway on Dec. 2 and traveled to Wake Forest on Dec. 18. The Chants dropped both games by a combined 10 points, after cutting both deficits to within a single possession in the final minute of play. This season CCU will face another three Power 5 schools. The opening game against Alabama starts the run of Power 5 followed by games at Wake Forest (Nov. 23), and at Auburn (Dec. 15). COASTAL VS. Chanticleer (SHAWN-tuh-clear) gives Coastal Carolina one of the most unique nicknames in all of sports. Chanticleer comes from Chaucer s Canterbury Tales and came to Coastal Carolina when the University was a member of the University of South Carolina system. A Chanticleer is a rooster who rules the barnyard with cunning and wit. His competitiveness never wanes as he battles to the end, using his brains to come out on top every time.

Men s Basketball Inks Three Early Signees Coastal Carolina head coach Cliff Ellis announced three student-athletes as part of the 2016-17 recruiting class. Ajay Sanders, Tony Jackson and Jaylen Sebree have committed to the Chanticleers to continue both their educational and basketball careers. Ajay Sanders Winterville, N.C./Olney Central College/Greenfield School Guard 6-4 195 Sanders is a versatile guard with the ability to play and defend multiple positions...he is an excellent rebounder and is averaging over 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists per outing at Olney Central College. Ellis on Ajay: We are very excited to add AJay to our basketball family. We will lose two senior wings going into next year. Having played in junior college, AJay gives us experience moving forward. He is a big guard that has basketball savvy and does so many things well. He can really shoot the basketball, is a very good passer, and rebounds extremely well for a guard. AJay is a young man of great character and a very good student, just a great addition to our program. Tony Jackson Fort Knox, Kentucky/North Hardin High School Guard 6-4 200 Jackson has been listed as a three-star recruit by Scouts and has been a standout at North Hardin High School... Ellis on Jackson: What a step in the right direction going into the Sun Belt Conference. Tony is the number 2 rated player in KY and will be a really good player for us. He is an excellent shooter with an excellent body. I think he is going to be an excellent player for us. I m excited to have him. Jaylen Sebree Hopkinsville, Kentucky/Christian County High School Forward 6-6 175 Sebree is a highly respected small forward out of Kentucky and depending on which scouting service you listen to is listed anywhere from a three to a four star recruit. Coastal Carolina University Joins Sun Belt Conference in 2016 Coastal Carolina University President David A. DeCenzo announced on Sept. 1, 2015 that the CCU Chanticleers athletic programs will join the Sun Belt Conference effective July 1, 2016. The Sun Belt Conference, headquartered in New Orleans, La., was established in 1976 and began sponsoring football in 2001 as a member of the FBS. In addition to football, the Sun Belt Conference sponsors baseball, men s basketball, women s basketball, men s cross country, women s cross country, men s golf, women s golf, men s soccer, women s soccer, softball, men s indoor track & field, women s track & field, men s outdoor track & field, women s outdoor track & field, men s tennis, women s tennis and women s volleyball. The Sun Belt Conference has earned ties to seven bowl games since its football beginnings 15 years ago. No football conference in history has ever boasted as many bowl relationships in its first two decades of existence. A worthy football team in the Sun Belt can be in the national championship picture, and the league is a permanent part of the Group of Five that will send its highestrated champion to a premier bowl game. CCU sports will begin competing in Sun Belt conference play as of July 1, 2016, with the exception of the football program, which will transition to its first year of full FBS status in 2018. During the transition, CCU will compete as a Sun Belt member in 2017 and have the opportunity to compete for the conference football championship, but will not be eligible to participate in the postseason. Coastal Carolina becomes the 12th member of the Sun Belt Conference, joining Appalachian State University, Georgia State University, Georgia Southern University, Troy University, University of South Alabama, Arkansas State University, University of Arkansas at Little Rock, University of Louisiana at Monroe, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, University of Texas at Arlington and Texas State University. Ellis on Sebree: At 6 6, Jaylen is very skilled guard who can play multiple positions for us, Ellis said. He gives us the length and athleticism we want to compete for Sun Belt Championships. He is great scorer but also an excellent passer. He is one of the top rated players in Kentucky and is going to be a great player for us. I m excited to have him. 10
